  1. Would you care to have a little "side wager" on the result of that poll ? Even money , best of 2 of course . The result should in all honesty "go down to the wire" . Especially if it reflects the vote back in '96 . Cheers
  2. Well , what was clear . Ian Ridley and his committee were pro merger . The committee held many , many proxy votes . The exact number , we're unsure . How many were used , we're also unsure . So , in the end , you and I have differing opinions on the outcome of those votes . Fair enough . I still say lets have a straw poll . You'd have to assume that many people on this site voted back then . And I reckon the result would give a reasonably accurate portrayal of how the rank and file member voted back in 1996 . Ah , democracy ! Ya gotta love it . Cheers
  3. What we could do is a straw poll on whether members of Demonland voted for the merger or not . Those that were eligible of course . Now , before we start predicting which way the vote would go I think we should respect those defamation laws . I respect the integrity of each and every Demonland member so I would accept the outcome of the vote - absolutely . Cheers
  4. Alright . You say the proxy votes didn't exist ?
  5. Wyl is correct . The proxy votes were real . How many - we don't know . But .........it can be assumed to be between 2400 and 4200 . I rounded it off at 3500 . The reason not many know about it is because of various reasons . One of the main reasons is that so many people didn't or don't know about the proxy vote system . Welcome to Demonland ! Cheers
  6. The reason I put the "That's my truth anyway" bit in , is because it's an opinion . It's not factual . I don't know anyone who knows the actual facts . I put the "That's my truth" comment in deliberately . I didn't have to . Some might see it as a sign of weakness or even see it as contradictory . I like to balance out my own points of view . If I simply wanted to "win" an argument I would never do such a thing . Ian Ridley was an absolute legend of the Club but he did want the Club to merge with Hawthorn . He wasn't perfect in my eyes . I do find it difficult to condemn him by the way . Well one things for sure , you and I were both anti-merger . Cheers
  7. Each Committee member was allowed between 200 - 350 proxy votes . There were 12 committee members . These votes could be gathered in the lead up time to that "Infamous meeting" . Given the fact that all the committee members and Ian Ridley were pro merger then it stands to reason that all the proxy votes would have been pro merger . The anti merger group had no such advantage . It was a stitch up . The pro merger group couldn't lose - especially if as suspected that they'd planted another 700 -1000 people at that meeting . Ridley didn't pull the proxy votes out of his bum at all . He used his constitutional advantage . That's my truth anyway . Hope this clears things up for you and cheers .
  8. Can 2 spinal fractures be minor ? Cheers
  9. Here's a track from "Nils" album "What the Funk" . This song was no.1 on the Jazz "Billboard" top 15 for about 12 weeks . He's been around for yonks . This is one of my favourite albums - esp to get me moving !! Macca 2.4
  10. You 2 need to get your facts straight . You need to brush up on your history please . It wasn't the rank and file member that voted for the merger . It was Ian Ridley and his 12 person committee with their 3,500 proxy votes that got the vote through . Plus they then booked a small venue where many couldn't get in to vote . 80 - 90% of the people at the Dallas Brooks Hall that night were against the merger . I can understand people wanting to vent this morning but for goodness sakes it was a practice match . Cheers
  11. If the phone doesn't ring , it's me . If your parents didn't have children , chances are you won't either . If toast always lands butter-side down , and cats always land on their feet , what happens when you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it ?
  12. Stick to the Coonawarra's OD , much better value . How about a wine thread ? We've got everything else ! Who needs facebook . Back on topic - Thanks for posting Cameron . We're not all loonie's . Some of us just impersonate them ! Cheers
  13. With a nice Chianti ? Cheers !
  14. From "Lead Balloon" starring Jack Dee
  15. I never used to be able to watch a regular season game . Based on the 1 game out of 162 - what does it matter ? But ................now that I know more about the rivalry's and divisional match-ups I can . And , of course they're mostly 3 game series . Seems there is always something to play for . Those Red Sox / Yankees games are beauties . And they play each other a lot . 18 times ! Cheers
  16. I think Neeld will put him back there sooner or later . He looks a lot more comfortable there , reads the play better and he can play from behind (most defenders do , most of the time) . Jack has got terrific skills and quite good vision . It's a no-brainer for mine . Trouble is , many want him to succeed as a key forward and maybe aren't prepared to change their mind . The other thing is that Jack didn't ask to be picked at #1 . Our club put that number and onus on him . If , for instance , we were to "imagine" him as a no.12 pick , the thinking on him changes quite dramatically . The National draft is in a lot of ways speculative . It's never 100% correct . It comes close sometimes . The recruiters are better than they were 10 years ago but they're still taking a punt . If you went back over the top 20 picks in the last 10 years the players would be in a different order in terms of ability and output . Sometimes way different . If , in 10 years time , it turns out that Jack wasn't the true no.1 , it may not be his own fault . Cheers
  17. Yep , Doug Heywood was famous for "The hustling , bustling Timmy Watson" and Doug Bigelow's "Flower supreme" was another beauty . Cheers
  18. Agreed on almost everything there 'Bossdog' . I don't mind Dermie in small doses . He's got some good opinions but goes too far sometimes . Roos is getting better as well . I think Foxtel are taking the Channel 7 feed so we'll still get BT . I like his humour . I put the stereo on when Dwayne is on ! Otherwise I start nodding off . Cheers
  19. If memory serves me correct , Toronto won the World Series 10 years ago or thereabouts ? Fair effort considering that division . MLB is a big pastime but the fans can take it very seriously hey . You've probably caught that ESPN doco involving the Cubs fan Steve Bartman . Scary stuff . Cheers
  20. With the Hawks it's totally different isn't it - A great model for any football team . And their fans aren't too bad - hard to hate 'em . As you no doubt know , that uncompromising way they play is a John Kennedy thing . It continues to get passed down . And just on that possible QB result , I'm with you 100% ! Cheers OD .
  21. Fair enough OD , but ................the people I know who follow Collingwood can dish it out and also take it back . It's mostly good natured banter . I think you've taken my comments a bit too seriously . Cheers
  22. The Bulldogs only had to draw . I still remember the roar that came from the Collingwood social club when Footscray drew with Carlton . They had long memories . Still , we've beaten that "mob" 15 times of the the last 16 times we've played them in finals . I let every Pie fan I come across know about it . Oh , and the fact they've only won 4 flags in the last 75 years . Hehehehe Cheers
  23. I follow the Boston Red Sox 'GTG' so I'm hoping we do well this year . Fell away dramatically last year . Too much chicken and beer apparently ! Philly , the Yankees and maybe St Louis should be up there again . Payrolls play a big part but not always . I know a couple of Red Sox fans who try to watch every one of their 162 games . That's keen ! Cheers Edit - I see you are a Blue Jay's fan there 'GTG' . We're rivals ! No , not really , I'm not that keen ! Must be great to be able to see the games live . Same with the Hockey yeah ? I've got a cousin living in Vancouver so I follow the Canucks . Again , not with any great passion .

I like watching the games JJ but don't really have a team . Saw Steve Nash live at the Sydney Olympics when he represented Canada vs the Boomers . He was awesome . So ...............I have a bit of a look at how the Phoenix Suns are travelling from time to time . It's a bit like the EPL for me , just like watching the big match-ups . Probably stay that way as well . Don't dislike any of the teams and don't have any favourites . The sport itself can be great at times . Especially around the play-off's . Espn have got the Miami/Chicago game on this Thursday around noon . Espn's Saturday lunchtime game is San Antonio/Oklahoma City ! Couple of beauty's there . Cheers
