I'm picturing myself with my mates Satan , Lucifer , Medusa , Incubus and the Devil . We're watching the game on a 14 inch Sanyo "Portable" whilst lazing about on our "Ikea" furniture . Us blokes have got our shirts off cos its a tad hot . Way , way upstairs they're all watching the victory in "4d" . I'm happy at last ( I think ) .

Yep , ya never know if those sorta things are gonna work or not . Stupid stuff but what the hey............... . I just hope we put up a decent effort on Saturday . We don't need another meltdown like last weekend . Threads everywhere . Venting left , right and centre . I think I was a little bit guilty as well on one occasion . Hate losing but a 5 goal loss (all things considered) might be ok . That's my optimistic view . Cheers

No need to apologise Doc , the written word is sometimes misinterpreted . I've landed in trouble sometimes with what I've thought is a simple text message . And Twitter land is a minefield ! All good Cheers

No Nonsense Neeld ... Let the Fallout Begin.
Macca replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep , well and truly on board with Mark Neeld . A little concerned about the "boundary hugging" bit , but I'm banking on this being only a small part of our game plan . Did the players take him too literally last week ? I do think it's an outdated system though . Collingwood have cut back a fair bit on that style ( judging on last Friday night ) . Mark did say that he knows that we know how to attack . Maybe there's just been an over correction on the defensive aspect . It's going to take a bit of time to teach our blokes a more "total football" style . Last Saturday was a reality check in a lot of ways . Corridor footy is the go IMO . Neeld comes across as having footy smarts and is certainly no nonsense . There's going to be some casualties by seasons end but I reckon our senior players who performed poorly against the Lions will get a chance to redeem themselves against the Eagles next Saturday . Cheers -
Yeah , trying to lighten the mood hey . Was your post #21 serious ? Seemed a tad harsh if you knew I was only trying to be amusing . Cheers

Seems like you're a bit "anchored" with your attitude to your own supporters .Can you give us your blueprint on what you want us to do? Offer a clear , concise solution please . We won 5 flags in 6 years from 1955 to 1960 . Can you tell us what that had to do with the supporters ? I could give you numerous examples of "Wealthy" sporting clubs with huge manic supporter bases that seldom win anything . Here's a few examples ................The Chicago Cubs , Boston Red Sox , Collingwood , Newcastle United , Tottenham , The New York Knicks and most of the Philadelphia teams (sorry Dappa) . You're argument is flawed . Our supporters are already buying in to a large extent . Cheers

Judging by all the comments on the weekend there might be more than a couple at "Stage 5" La Dee ! My post was meant to be mildly humourous only . A bit of social commentary "so to speak" . Cheers

It was a "Tongue in cheek" post , Doctor . A comment aimed at all the posts on the weekend . Thought all the exclamation marks might have given it away ! Cheers

1 - Denial - This can't be happening again ! 2 - Anger - Who is to blame ? 3 - Bargaining - Maybe if the game plan comes together ? 4 - Depression - What's the point . 5 - Acceptance - There's always next year ! Cheers !

I'd be more concerned with a few perhaps "buying out" ! Might be a Sellars market . Cheers

What do we need ? What we need to do is abandon this "Boundary hugging" style of play . Pronto . It's obsolete . I didn't see any other team do it on the weekend except our team . It worked for a while at Collingwood until they got found out in round 8 last year when they played Geelong the 1st time . We haven't got the skilled players to pull it off anyway . It's a complete waste of energy and relies on other teams allowing you the space to move the ball "Along the line" . If we do it again against the Eagles we will get smashed again . And the media will have a field day . I didn't say anything during the nab cup because I wanted to give Neeld the benefit of the doubt . Six months of planning has gone into a plan that takes 5 minutes to instill ( in all reality ). For goodness sake , any person with half a brain could get an EFL 4th division reserves side to play this way . And it would take 1 pep talk . It seems Neeld may have seen that type of play "work" at Collingwood and thinks "We'll do that" . It is not going to work and the sooner we start playing the corridor ( primarily ) the better . What we need is a coach that can get our team to win the contested possession , win clearances , play as a team by gut running , using handball , short passing , switching play , passing to a leading forward (?) etc etc . I believe that Mark Neeld can be that coach but he needs to throw the "Boundary hugging style" out the window . Especially with the use of "Long bombs" . It won't work . Cheers

Free agency explained ............... http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/89809/default.aspx Cheers
-
You don't have to trade anybody or anything to get a free agent . You just have to offer them lots of cash and they have to be willing to make a move . That's why they are called "Free" agents . The AFL compensates the clubs that lose their free agents . There's 8 year restricted free agents where the original club can match the offer and there are 10 year unrestricted free agents that can go any club of their choice - unrestricted . If you already know this 'Goag' , no worries , this post is mainly for others that may not know the system . Cheers

The biggest issue for our club is exactly how much room we will have in our salary cap at years end . We should have at least 2.5 million spare but I fear it probably won't be anywhere near that amount . Our club should have been planning for free agency at least 2 - 3 years ago . Contracts such as Davey's should have been front ended for instance . We need to bring in 3 or 4 quality free agents ( providing they want to come ! ) I've said it before but our current lot of players are getting paid way too much , especially when you consider that the Pies , Cats and Hawks pay their players about the same as what we do . We have a number of players out of contract at years end including Jamar , Green , Moloney and a few others that would be eating up our salary cap . My thinking would be to bite the bullet . Delist 9-11 players . Bring in 3 or 4 free agents and draft another 6 or 7 kids . Using our compo picks and our 1st round draft pick for the 1st three kids and taking a punt on the next 3 or 4 . Maybe 1 or 2 of our players we delist might have trade value but I wouldn't be counting on that . Oh , and memo to Mark Neeld - abandon the around the boundary style . It's already outdated and our current lot of players have zero chance of implementing it anyway . The onus on contested possessions I like but the "bombing" to a dead pocket is utterly ridiculous . Stupid football . Brisbane had nearly 100 more uncontested possessions than our team yesterday but they at no stage looked like they over possessed the ball . That "Bomb it long all the time" style might work at "Ocean Grove" but this is the big leagues Mark . It's a bit more scientific . Cheers !
