  1. We shouldn't be putting musical acts on for the oldies anyway - let's face it most of them aren't interested - they just want to watch the footy A new contempary act that will appeal to a younger audience ( or oldies that aren't preparing for the grave ! ) will do nicely . How about a bit of vibrancy ? Or is that asking too much ? We Aussies need to move out of 1978 !
  2. How about Pete Murray , Jebediah or Eskimo Joe to name just a few contempary Aussie acts that would have been great on GF day . This absolute obsession with retro music baffles me - when are we going to move with the times ?
  3. Cats to win the Grand Final by 1 point - how good would that be !
  4. Excellent post and here's what I reckon Neeld's team could look like FB: Grimes Frawley Garland HB: Blease ****** Tapscott C: ****** Moloney Bail HF: Sylvia ****** Watts FF: Green ****** Jurrah Foll: Jamar ****** Trengove Int: Martin Jones McKenzie Howe This isn't MY team as I might find room for Davey , Gysberts , Rivers and Bartram but we KNOW Mark left gaps and I reckon it's the spine . He may well have left more than the 5 gaps I've showh - which is a bit scary ! Cheers , Nuggets
  5. It's impossible for me to be even slightly cynical about this bloke - Everything I've heard and watched is ultra impressive - And like many others on this site I'd rather be feeling nice and positive for the next 6 months - before our 1st game of 2012 - and I'm not even concerned about our draw - On the contrary , I'd rather see our team tested early against some decent opposition . Ideal first 5 games would be Hawks , Saints , Swans , North then GWS at the G !
  6. It's not the collar that bothers me - it's the red that looks pink which is the issue - and what about that ridiculous clash/away strip ! Absolutely no need to ever wear anything other than our traditional outfit - let the other mobs change their strip - why can't we be stubborn ?
  7. I was 28 and also remember the jibes - interesting that Clarko and Demetriou played for North that day - Stynes had played 11 games , Viney 14 , Warren Dean 17 , Ricky Jackson 14 , Spalding 22 , Wight 30 and Brett Lovett 22 . The numbers are so low it doesn't seem right - but it is ! And Rhino Richards was our 2nd most experienced player with 81 games played ! Augurs well for next year hey with our young list ! GO DEMONS !
  8. 1987 Elimination Final Melbourne vs North Melbourne (match stats) Was there that day and it remains one of if not the sporting highlight of my life. After watching our team finally play in a final after seeing them miss out since the late 60's, I along with tens of thousands of other loyal Demon fans was gobsmacked about how we absolutely smashed a team that had done the same to our team for many years. Euphoric isn't a strong enough word to describe how we Melbourne supporters felt that day. The main reason I opened up a new topic was to emphasise how young and inexperienced our team was that day and that the impossible is possible if you want it badly enough - and that youth is not always a barrier Average games per player around about 46! Northey in charge and Robbie kicked 5 - unforgettable! ... Demons 22.26.158 North 5.10.40
  9. I spent the best part of 3 years being critical of Bailey and to be honest I didn't enjoy it one bit - I sometimes wonder how I would have felt the other way around - I've already decided to go down the "Blind allegiance" track with Neeld and Craig { if it's confirmed of course } - My gut tells me it's gonna work !
  10. Fair enough to be skeptical and usually I am as well but adding Craig to the equation does reinforce to me that the Club wants the Team to be way more defence orientated - we may end up winning ugly a lot more but that beats the hell out of losing ugly - cheers !
  11. Neeld and Craig - now I'm confident - getting better by the hour ! Neeld to leave the pies immediately ? Sheahan seems to think so . That's gotta make it harder for the Pies to go back to back - Beauty !
  12. Assuming it's Mark Neeld I'll give him until about round 14 or 15 next year to turn things around . 1 - Lose our bruise free style of play . 2 - Forward press working well . 3 - Win games . My only concern is are we going to play Boundary line footy ?
  13. After the events of the last few days I'm officially clueless ! Hope we get Mick though .
  14. Power is the strongest aphrodisiac - We need a Coach who is a great strategist and a great motivator - Mick - find a way to land the bloke - right now ! ( or in 9 - 16 days ! )
  15. Really good point there trout - rather quick wasn't it - of course the AFL is a Fascist regime so even if we could prove they were complicit ..........
  16. We had 6 picks in the National draft in 2010 . 7 in 2009 , 7 in 2008 , 6 in 2007 and 4 in 2006 - got these from wiki so not sure how accurate - We have traded picks over the years as well . Obviously circumstances change depending on the quality of lists but we underachieved this year and you'd have to have a big question mark over some players who couldn't get a regular game - esp at the end of the year . As well as delisting a few , we should be trade for a few inside players and 1 or 2 big blokes who can take a grab up forward - A BIG ask I know but you've gotta have a go - and there's always 1 or 2 shock delistings - esp at our club !
  17. Any player who isn't contracted yet is probably in danger - I don't know who they all are but no doubt somebody on this site will know - These players will probably come under the catagory of he's "Alright" or he's "O.k" . I reckon at least 5 will be delisted all things considered .
  18. We will win out in the short term and in the long run - We have a team capable of playing finals ( Essendon made it this year and they're not great ). Our list should get better compared to most other Clubs . The 2 picks we get for Sally are more than adequate . Not sure there's a cure for a degenerative knee so we end up better off - And if we can somehow land Malthouse ..........though Ross Lyon isn't a bad 2nd choice . Btw is the avatar tasteful ?
  19. Maybe - but he's a "thinker" and thinker's often read a lot - I've just got this vision of his "Cheeseburger eating family" alerting him to - "Look what they're saying about you now Tom!"
  20. Ah - good news ! - had a media blackout today so I could watch the Tennis "as live" when I got home - my bad ! The re-build continues on then .
  21. Cameron Schwab seems to reckon we will get compensation picks for "What's his face" that are along the the lines of what the Cats got for Gary Ablett - Hope he's right - thought he was quite impressive at the Melbourne press conferance btw - Our Club has shown a lot of class throughout this whole sorry saga and I'm quite proud of how we've handled it . We were in a no win situation for most of the year and right at the end we could come out way on top esp if "Prima Donna Tom" has a shortened career due to his degenerative knee - I'll bet any money he reads these threads so we should let him have it !
  22. Tom Scully was gone when his management group put off all contract negotiations until the end of the season - they slammed the door shut there and then and threw away the key - and this was done early in the season . I'm not at all angry or upset with fellow Demons for "Believing in Tom" - everyone is entitled to an opinion - to me there isn't any right or wrong with regards to this issue - much like the pro/anti Dean Bailey issue . I reckon this whole saga/circus will galvanize and unite the Club and the fans - An "Us against them" attitude in sport works quite well as long as it doesn't become a sooking exercise .
  23. The aspect of this whole saga that concerned a lot of people the most was how Tom's management had closed the door on all negotiations until the end of the season - why ? What if we had offered Tom a huge long term contract the day after their statement ? They made it quite clear there and then - end of season - that's it . His management shut the door in a abrupt and callous way that put the Club on the back foot and probably rightfully ticked off - very clever way of moving their client on - The key factor here is that if you are a player agent you keep the door open - not shut .
  24. Yeah good point re the new coach ( if true ) but I don't buy it - as Paul Newman once said "If you've got steak at home why go out for hamburger" - perhaps Tom thinks we're a quarter pounder .
