  1. Amazing what happens when you can stick to the fundamentals . Coaches who go away from this eventually get found out . The top 5 teams from last year all had what I would describe as "nuts and bolts" coaches . All those teams were generally................. Excellent at contested ball , won the clearances , beat their man to the ball , put their body on the line . Have forwards who play in front all the time and can "keep the ball in" . Tackle well , pressure well , have numbers at the ball , create space , shepherd , block , Have defence's that work as a team and are miserly . etc , etc , etc The above could well describe footy of any era . It's not all about talent , many fundamentals are a mindset . And it's hard enough learning all the fundamentals . It's even harder to do them all the time . We're starting to see the signs in the nab cup . Cheers
  2. Maybe it was our "Red Sox" that did it ?
  3. I remember seeing 3 dimensional chess on "Star Trek" ! That looked like a big ask . Draughts or ludo takes most of my brain power . Cheers
  4. Ha ! Jim Keays could go alright though . Cheers
  5. Yeah , I'm a great believer in getting the fundamentals right - 1st . Obviously outside players have a role but IMO they need to be highly skilled . And you can't have too many of them in your team . Otherwise you might get accused of being "bruise free" Cheers
  6. Don't know a great deal about him . Left arm quickish . Can bit a bit . Originally from Canberra ? Certainly a bit of a race for the shield final now . Points :- WA 34 , QLD 30, Tas 30 and the Vics 30 . One full round to go (next weekend). Tas vs WA , QLD vs SA and Vic vs NSW Cheers
  7. And let's hope he falls apart and they can't rebuild him . Cheers
  8. Here's a few celebrities ! ............... http://www.australianrulesfootball.com.au/pages/CSHOF#melbourne%20demons
  9. Yep , it is tricky . Though if you take a line through what Neeld is looking for it becomes a bit easier . Outside types who won't put their head over the ball (all the time) might miss out IMO . Others who won't play in front or can't get to the front position should become casualties as well . Players who can put in 2nd and 3rd efforts consistently and generally are good at the 1%ers could get rewarded as well . A manic attack on the pill will definitely help !! Early doors , but it seems Neeld is looking for the basic fundamentals of the game being adhered to . What every decent coach should do really . Cheers
  10. Not rock and not jazz so this number has to go here , on this thread . A great song and one for our club (hopefully) . A smooth , elegant and classy song by our very own Linda George . The song was made famous by "Ruby & the Romantics" but I like Linda's version better ...................
  11. Robin van Persie does it again . This man is all class . The Gunners need to hang on to this bloke . Man Utd at Tottenham tomorrow morning (3am) should be a beauty . Cheers
  12. Wow , I'm gonna have to use that line if ya don't mind 'Yossarian' . A beauty ! lol .
  13. We had 179 kicks and only 81 handballs . It was so much different to how we have been playing in the last 4 years . Longer kicking , far more direct and our attack on the ball and general endeavor was 1st rate . We also had a few notable outs - Clark , Moloney , Rivers , Tapscott , Trengove , Grimes , Bartram , McKenzie , Jurrah and Morton . Our new players continue to impress . Especially Magner . He's a ripper ! And Martin provided an excellent target up forward . He knows how to play in front . Jones was excellent . Magner very good . Martin , Green , Jamar , Garland , Frawley , Petterd , Sylvia , Sellar , Bate , Couch and Nicholson all put in and had good games . Thought Davis did some nice things as well . All in all , a good solid hitout . The win was a nice bonus . Some very good signs . Cheers
  14. Yes 'skills' . Flooding used to be called "Stacking the backline" . The forward press is not entirely new either . I reckon I saw a version of it a "back in the day" . The "Backmen pushing up" is about all I can remember it being called . Cheers .
  15. You and I are talking about different issues surrounding the same subject matter . You're talking about the stance that each side took . I'm talking about the process of getting the vote through . Happy to move on by the way , but not on how our fans were made to look disloyal . Cheers
  16. It's funny , nearly all the Fitzroy fans I know , now follow Brisbane . And in most cases they get to see their team on tele every week . Seeing them live is a different story of course . I view it as I view all our fans/members who live permanently interstate or overseas . Many are on this site . Good luck to them . There are millions of fanatical fans of various sporting clubs around the world who never get to see their team 'live' . Many fork out the dosh for memberships . But .......it must be a gut wrenching thing to come to terms with your club relocating 'interstate' . I hope North get to stay in Victoria forever . Cheers
  17. But it was the "process" ( for want of a better word ) that was the real issue . Most people I know have/had no idea about the 'proxy' vote situation . And the sad bit is that a lot of Demon fans believe that the 'rank and file' members voted for the merger . Just ask anyone whether our club voted itself out of existence . There's an excellent chance they will come back with the answer of 'Yes' . But .......there's an almost equal chance that there will be no mention of 'proxy votes' Sheahan is there to sell newspapers . As you no doubt know , often the truth gets lost when this endeavor is embarked upon . Fin ? not yet . Cheers .
  18. Here's one of my favourites from Aerosmith Macca 6.7
  19. It's an important issue , this merger rubbish . All our fans should know the truth . If it was a fair meeting at the time , the vote would never have got through , in my opinion . Cheers
  20. Yep , there were all sorts of shenanigans going on . I've yet to run into a supporter who voted for the merger . Not that they'd want to admit it . Cheers .
  21. Yep , and the worst bit is that a lot of our fans actually believe that the rank and file member voted for the merger . It's simply not true . I can understand many not wanting to try and explain the proxy vote system because often the person you're telling it to "roll their eyes" in disbelief . Everybody I know , knows the truth (now). So , Ridley and his Committee have roughly 3000 votes under their belts ( carefully collected in the preceeding month or 2 ) . They then organise another 600 - 700 to turn up early to a 3,500 capacity venue . Impossible to lose . Cheers Wyl
  22. The 1000's of proxy votes held by our committee at the time got the vote through . These proxy votes were collected way in advance of the infamous meeting . Most of the rank and file members were caught unaware's . The rank and file Melbourne member generally voted against the merger . The late Ian Ridley and his committee organised a smallish venue ( Dallas Brooks Hall ) and many members were locked out and couldn't vote . We were railroaded . Imagine walking into a 3,500 venue (approx) with roughly 3, 000 votes under your belt ? Hard to lose . By the way 'gidon' , my comment is on your actual words . I thought I'd just fill in the blanks with my take on it . My comments shouldn't be taken as a personal attack . Just trying to set the record straight . Cheers
  23. Brilliant song JJ , here's one from "The Monkees" in memory of the sad passing of Davy Jones . Macca 6.5
  24. Yeah , it was terrific to see . Browny looked a bit taken aback as well . It really looked like a few of our blokes were out to impress the coach . We've done quite well over the years with our rookie's and this bloke was a breath of fresh air with his attack on the ball . Hoping Magner can go on with it but so far , so good . He had 14 touches over the 2 games which was our 2nd highest . Matty had 24 . Cheers ®
  25. As somebody else pointed out - with the new interchange rules the 2nd ruckman quite often has to stay on the ground . The 3 on the interchange are primarily running types / midfielders . So Jamar and Martin have to be of some value elsewhere other than the ruck . If Clark plays deep then Jamar and Martin might have different roles up forward or down back . Martin could be used occasionally as a Ruck/Rover . Think it was 'Jackie' that suggested that . I can see Neeld rotating our big blokes in the forward line . Geelong do it a bit . And it's been done in the past . It's not a new thing . Cheers ®
