  1. Potentially why Bowey has been brought in, as a second transition option from back half turnovers
  2. Yes I was agreeing with you
  3. Tigers are staying at Joondalup resort and travelling in their own little bubble to and from West Perth’s ground at Arena Joondalup to train each day. Hardly quarantine like those returning from overseas are enduring
  4. Need to be careful tinkering to much this late in the season. There unknowns that the FD are across in regard to any training loads etc, which I think we should be starting to see upward trend now. I think Melksham needs to come in I like his skills by foot , which we need. Do we look at Melksham for Jackson and go with the mobile forward line again. Im inclined not to make changes to the backline, Rivers has dropped off a little but I think that might be down to the extra work being put into our defence by the opposition and the increased pressure at ground level. Overall we still keep opposition sides to low scores and conversion inside forward 50 is the main issue. Jordon for Chunk might be the other consideration but at the end of the day we went head to head with a very good side on the weekend, with both sides backing their structures in and we fell short because of conversion and some brain fades leaving Bont free at stoppages, which no doubt will have come up in the after match review. I think more work will go into Daniel should we meet the Dogs again in September. I’m of the view we’re not that far off but at this level, being slightly off has a big impact. Out: Jackson In: Melksham
  5. 6 Oliver 5. Lever 4. Viney 3. Hunt 2. May 1. Trac
  6. Chin up old dee, our parents band grandparents lived through far worse and whilst it’s easy for me to say, I’m sure we are closer to returning to more sustained normality (not that we will return to pre-covid life) than we were 12 months ago Thank god we’re travelling well as a footy team at the moment
  7. I played for Davis’s when I was back in Ireland for a stint in 90s. There’s a lot of GAA clubs in Tallaght Davis’s and St Anne’s probably the two big ones and just down the road in Knocklyon is Ballyboden St Endas where the great Jimmy Stynes started. My wife was very good friends with a lad who grew up around the corner from her in Kilnamanagh. He is an ex Dublin Senior footballer from the early 2000s, Darren Homan who played for St Kevins
  8. That is not correct, he was keen but we didn’t want to meet his wage demand and contract triggers
  9. Yes thought it was strange with many commentators stating West Coast need to change there gamestyle as they are a poor tackling side
  10. Up the Dubs, originally from the Tallaght/Crumlin areas as a child
  11. I know we are isolated in WA but can’t see us escaping this one for much longer, but who knows. Surely the hubs are being discussed and/or the pre finals bye is under serious review
  12. Surely the outcome is based upon the game itself and not the W L as to being in a form slump. Play really well, couple of things just don’t go our way and lose by a small margin doesn’t constitute a form slump in my book But then again the usual suspects will call that accepting mediocrity
  13. And Sydney who are currently flying are now deemed to be a poor clearance team. As I have said continuously teams back there structures and game style. Clarko never worried about clearances in the 3 peat, regaining, maintaining possession and having good transition was his focus. There is no right or wrong answer, do I have concerns yes, especially over the last 5 games. Are there reasons yes, I’m not making excuses the increased training load over the bye was discussed by Gawn and the media. I also think the FD will be tweaking how we play to counter what teams are going to throw at us, because let’s face it we are not going to totally change the approach which got us to this position with finals this close. We are at that point now where the forward cohesion needs to click and the counter strategy to Salem, Lever, Langdon, May being targeted is identified and implemented. Stats and media input can support any argument. Leigh Montagna compares Vineys game on the weekend to Dangers similar return after the 4 games as a good sign, but those wanting to pot Viney disregard it. IMV Viney was best suited playing more forward but that is just MO, and his disposal inside 50 on the weekend was poor. Last week all media experts were praising us after beating Port convincingly. Surprise surprise that’s changed and now we have been poor for 6 to 8 weeks, really? Do they actually review what they say week 8 Dogs convincing win, dominant performance week 7 Lions convincing dominating second half week 6 Pies really poor performance week 5 bye week 4 Bombers did enough but areas of concern specifically with conversion and failing to capitalise on ruck dominance but no issues with defensive structure or transition week 3 Giants first warning sign of the plus 1 in the opposition midfield and exposed badly at the clearances, stoppages, delivery inside 50 poor and conversion again poor. week 2 Port pretty dominant all night, Port never really in it structure was very pronounced every time Port tried to transition week 1 Hawks poor conversion, pretty even in the clearances, but unlike Giants Hawks put pressure on us at every clearance and we went back to 2020/19 of Bombing it in. Hawks nullified May and Lever and put work into Salem. Rivers was poor and Hibberd was very dumbly causing 2 direct opposition goals with poor handball under pressure Basically I fully agree that we need to bring pressure, intensity and team first approach for the remainder of the H&A season, everything else falls into place after that and what will be will be. My biggest concern is from the Giants game in regard to the Cats and Dogs having the players capable by foot of exposing us in similar fashion to Whitfield and Kelly. Sydney also have these players but the issue I see with them is they will utilise their foot skills transitioning from their defensive half and avoid getting into a stoppage game. If we play the Swans again we need to avoid being Bees to the honeypot and minimise turnovers in the forward half
  14. Unfortunately that's a really poor stat and big room for improvement. It's been that way for a long time with opposition sides winning clearances despite Max's dominance in the hit outs
  15. Yep never going to be even unless we go 17 or 34 H & A. As a 70s child I really only remember the 22 round H&A season of the 12 team competition before we expanded
  16. All teams are predictable and everyone knows how everyone plays. These coaching groups are all fairly smart and will have an understanding of how to beat sides. Sides back their structures to beat the opposition. This is a tough competition and if you’re slightly off it impacts your structures. But kick straight in those performances against those lower sides and we win. However wins sometimes paper over cracks, which (despite what posters think) footy departments will identify and work to evolve. When sides expose a weakness it allows you to make some tweaks. The Dogs will have a plan to counter us sitting on Libba this week
  17. I don’t like conferences, teams in the NFL have won conferences with losing records and had home field advantage in the first round of play offs
  18. Yes would make sense along with equalising the draw, which they tried to do a few seasons ago but was compromised by blockbusters, derbies, showdowns etc Rd 1 -17 Each team plays the other 17 sides once Rd 18 -23 (5 games only taking the bye into consideration) goes as per below Teams who finished 1st to 6th the previous season play each other a second time Teams who finished 7th to 12th the previous season play each other a second time Teams who finished 13th to 18th the previous season play each other a second time. Its not rocket science and takes away teams having perceived easier draws because they have to play a side twice each season because they play in the same state or are traditional rivals. It’s not perfect but unless we play each other only once or twice it’s as fair as we can get. IMO works better than other ideas of wild cards, teams playing for draft picks etc
  19. Just finished watching again. The last two goals in the 3rd were from poor handballs from Hibberd. Missed targets twice and also over an the ball several times during the game, he was extremely poor, which something he hasn’t been all year
  20. If people stop responding to him/her , they would go away. All trolls crave attention which is missing in their normal life. It’s in the hands of the other posters to just not take the bait
  21. 6. Salem 5. Fritsch 4. Petty 3. Oliver 2. Lever 1. Spargo
  22. You have got to be kidding go back and watch. One of the few who doesn’t panic with ball in hand and actually makes good decisions with his disposal
  23. No chance resting players last round IMO, especially with the pre finals bye. Don’t see any team resting players if you flirt with form at that point of the year you’re taking a big risk. Another consideration is if you were to do that and you won your first qualifying final, come Preliminary final time those players would only have played 1 game in 5 weeks
  24. Yes it's been politics 101 by Mcgowan, who I'm not a supporter of and easy enough for him to do. But lets not forget we as a state contribute a very large piece of the nations exports, far above the % of population we have. My point is I know which outcome I have preferred when given the choices. I have a large family in Europe and have seen the impact it has had on them economically and their mental health, so from my perspective if borders need to be shut so be it
  25. And your point is, Are you saying those of us who have set up home in WA just take money in the form of GST from those in the eastern states without contributing. Being isolated has helped that’s true but our tough border policy has been a godsend during this pandemic.
