Yes. If a trade breaks down, the player has a few options. (With examples) 1. National Draft. (Luke Ball to Collingwood) 2. Pre Season Draft. (Nick Stevens to Carlton) 3. Sign with current club. (Dustin Martin potential move to GWS) 4. Delisted / Retire. Mal Michael retired and was then drafted in the preseason draft by Essendon. This resulted in Brisbane being shafted without any compensation. Pretty sure the delisted free agency rules were written with this in mind and the player cannot be signed as a free agent if there was a contract offered by the current club.
