The Inquistion continues until at least February ...
Ouch! replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree regarding his ability as a reporter.... not a lot of substance. Caro has gone very quiet on this, and it seems that Jon Ralph has just picked up and trying to make something outta the dregs of it. I actually used to rate CW a while back, and I thought she was quite good on Footy Classified, but I don't know if I can stomach her this season. If as was speculated they put Lloyd on to replace Grant Thomas,.... the panel will be pretty lightweight indeed. -

Hey, I reckon a belting with the dipstick could hurt! Whippy little thing like that! ... not to mention you could splatter oil on people, and that would be a [censored] to clean off clothing! -
I'd rather wait until we see Jordie in a different role or better adapt to his current role. As an inside mid he rarely gets the ball in uncontested space, meaning that his disposal is constantly under pressure. We are also playing him as a tagger. This is a pretty limited role to play and is more about preventing others from getting the ball.

Perhaps, but this really is the only way I can see the AFL managing to save face. They have to take responsibility and sort things out properly, which actually gives them the most control on how to get things right. They cannot sweep things under the carpet and hope no one notices. They can't blame the clubs cos the clubs will come back at them, and likely to do so in a court of law, not the AFL tribunal. But I think more importantly, I don't actually think they can come out and say MFC did nothing wrong and THEN do nothing themselves.

Lucky we managed to offload Morton and Gysberts. they would have disappeared!

Nah, can't be done. You cannot dictate match selection like this, it would almost be akin to saying Adam Goodes is worth X amount of DT points, therefore he should be played at all costs. List management is crucial in the modern game. The AFL just needs to do whatever it can to ensure that clubs don't race to the bottom, once the race to the finals is out of reach in terms of not making the prize too valuable. But there should be NOTHING wrong with a club putting the queue in the rack if finals are out of reach, it's responsible to send players to get surgery if it means a full pre season, it's the best opportunity to get games into young players or try players in other positions. The point of difference with tanking is that the club with whoever they put out on the ground.... needs to be seen to be winning the game with the players on the park.

In response to Hoopla's comments where Anderson has dropped the AFL into it. I tend to agree on this, but I don't think it's true that there isn't an answer to how to get out of it from the AFL's perspective and not lose face. The best way for the AFL to do this is admit that they created an environment that could lead to the perception of tanking, and to come up with a clear definition of tanking. In addition they need to take steps to fix things... the priority draft pick was one thing, the next bit would be to do the lottery for the first 5 picks in the draft for example. The AFL will not come out of this well if they attempt to put the blame onto clubs for what was a scenario caused by the AFL itself. It would open a can of worms that might find itself in the courts which puts them on a much less secure footing.

Good points Ben Hur, sadly it feels like the Jack Watts arguments from the last couple of years all over again.

For everyone saying that it's Telstra's fault that ain't exactly correct either. Bigpond/Telstra host the AFL site, and probably have determined / agreed with clubs/AFL the CMS that the site(s) run on. But as to updating content such as the articles that Matt writes, or any of the video content,.. or updating key information on players etc... thats the club's responsibility, not Telstra... Given now the AFL site has been updated, I presume that each of the clubs will get a chance to do something with the look of their sites also. As far as draftee details not being updated, there have been details, and interviews posted about each of those people who have joined the club. Some parts of the site they might not choose to update till the list has been finalised next week.

Only thing I can think of is the old chestnut of bringing the game into disrepute. But given that can be used for Juddy's chicken wing equally as effectively as tanking allegations and anything else... I just don't know where this investigation can go from here if thats all they have.

The article mentioned that several candidates were 'at the demons' To me that sounds a little more specific than just having MFC connections. Could we see Satterly or one of the other development coaches be installed as the Casey coach as part of the discussions that occurred recently with Casey in financial strife? It would certainly assist with the development of the MFC juniors... almost like having our own team in the VFL.

Adrian Anderson has quit the AFL apparently. Sounds like it would be this - Adrian Anderson has quit.

Hiya, Appreciative of the hard work of everyone involved with keeping this site going. One thing I am not particularly fond of (I am a little picky though) is the mini icons next to all the articles and recent posts on the left. Primarily because everything now is expanded out/extended. Making the whole front page of demonland very long...as if it has been double-spaced.

Given everything that has happened this year, and poor on field performance, I was expecting to see a loss this year, not a profit. Good effort IMO ...although I expect that the CS haters will find some way to twist this around. Also good to see Don mention the tanking investigation, and that the MFC is going to do everything it can to defend itself.

Whilst we wait for the outcome of the Adelaide hearing... I saw this article in the HUN http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/crows-to-present-united-front-at-afl-commission/story-e6frf9jf-1226526986690 Take a look at Adrian Anderson in the first photo.... I initially thought, what a nice fella getting some coffee's for everyone, but whats he carrying underneath the coffees? Very suspicious looking..... Ham and Cheese Toastie (AFL Commission are too tight to offer lunch maybe?) Tippetts $200K in paper bag for added effect? A bunch of new AFL rules that can be introduced in 2013. A pillow to rest his head as he nods off? Mature age diapers for crows staff as they could no doubt be sh*tting themselves at the moment. Any other thoughts??

Perhaps it is more that the journalists don't rate the rest of the list sufficiently that they think these players are a walk up start. (Not my view)

2 B&Fs a Brownlow, 250+ consecutive games and I think it would be fair to say revolutionised the art of rucking in many ways... I still think thats pretty close in my opinion, but as I mentioned before I don't think many people agree on the definition of star/champion/legend etc on these boards. I agree ours have been few and far between...
-
Not totally sure I agree with this. I am fairly certain Stynes record stands up as him being a champion of the game. Lyon unfortunately I would put into a similar category to the Ox and I have no doubt they would have been seen as champions, but injury cruelled their chances. C&B seems to be qualifying champions as a player that dragged their club towards a premiership, and whilst thats fine.... there are several players such as Robert Harvey, who never tasted success who wouldn't qualify. No point arguing on this too much further, but I would say that Trengoves draft there are no champions,.... yet, and therefore it's a little unfair to suggest he is underperforming. His stats last year were solid, but not flashy. But still very good in many areas. Give him a little more time.
-
Actually it's both. It was traded for Rodan,... I think Port traded it for a player to Westcoast, and they gave it back to us for Morton. .... we proceeded to bin it Edit: I am waaaay too slow today guys! sorry.

Could it be that we only had x number of live picks, and the last couple we had defined to be rookie upgrades, therefore any picks afterwards are removed? Just speculating.
-
Hahah, I don't really know much, but I'll give it a crack. Dayle Garlett was obviously seen as too big a risk by clubs. Sam Colquhoun was a little suprising that he didn't get picked up. Jason Pongracic was another player that some people mentioned as likely to be picked up. SEN mentioned that clubs in this day and age just can't afford going for some of these players that are seen as a risk to their profile (sponsorship etc) where a 5-10 years ago these players would just have been picked on their game, not the whole package (if that makes sense).
-
Nick Graham and Sam Colquhoun also a little suprising that they haven't been called.
-
Tim Membrey and Dayle Garlett .... suprised they haven't been called out....Any chance for our third round picks?
-
Just cos they have money doesn't mean it's not a penalty, don't think you can say... 'That club is rich, so lets hurt them another way'

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
Ouch! replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's one of the things that makes me like Toumpas, Grundy etc... and i'll put even Viney, Crouch and O'Meara into this category also. They spent parts of last year playing senior football against Men. A lot of the players that come out of Tassie will have played in the state league as much as for the Mariners, and get a feel for playing senior football. I'm not saying that the TAC Cup isn't a good competition, but the kids that play SANFL, etc I feel come up to speed a little quicker.
