  1. Another self-proclaimed 'expert' that I've never heard of and just another puff piece with no real substance. The clear differentiator for me is that we finally have some real depth within the list for the first time in yonks! Nearly 44 blokes who could come in to the team and play a role on game day and not look out of place - and, they're all competing for a spot in the firsts. When Roos and Jackson came on board four (4) years ago we barely had half a dozen best 22 locks and the rest were mediocre VFL players at best. We are a team at long last and one that wants success for one another. The individuality that plagued the list in years gone by has been replaced with a team firs culture. We look to have nailed the draft first rounds at long last and have found some great value in later picks. Taylor has been a steal. For all of the apparent rogering we get from the Pies with ordinarily trades, I think we're a long way in front with the recruiting method Taylor has brought to the club. First class. The development team is second to none and quite frankly I think the additions of Chaplin (who had an offer to stay at Punt Rd), Egan and Rooke point to and underline the quality of the environment Roos and co have put in place. People want to come to the club because they can see the raw talent on the list and want to be a part of developing it, pushing it hard and seeing it unleash on the field. Misson and Rob Jackson have done a tremendous job, there can't be any question about their commitment to the playing group and driving of standards. I have no concerns at all that Goodwin will not measure up. There's no apparent ego which is commonly seen across the AFL senior coaching a ranks. He's humble, assured and a footy nerd. I think he'll be a tactical genius on game day. The boys love him - what more could you want. My point is, is that there is so much more beneath the surface that has/is/will enable the team to out-perform what the supposed guru sports writers can only see above the surface. They see win/loss and factor in natural progression or regression and out pops the puff from their PC's. You, me and the majority of posters and readers of this forum know that there's a very different feel to this club right now. We live and breathe the club every day and know when things have turned a corner. I think we've turned a hair-pin corner and will ascend much faster than Mr Bicks thinks. Ed: have since learnt the articles author is Mark Bickley. Makes no diff to my post.
  2. Clarry as well. Or was he sick? I can't recall.
  3. Fnoath.
  4. I've heard from sources more credible than Yarran's FB account that Fyfe is definitely not well liked amongst the playing group. He thinks he's God gift to the club and isn't humble at all about being a Brownlow winner. Quite the opposite of his speech of that night. I doubt the MFC would be interested in such a personality given the recent hard work around behavioural standards.
  5. I hope Freo do the right thing and support him through this tough time. With the right guidance, they might be able to cajole him out of retirement.
  6. It has pockets of excellence, SWYL. I'm in one of them of course. Anyway, that rant is loaded with gold. ?
  7. I have a thing for "short-HAIRED" ladies, ProDee. Apart from Ali MacGraw, of course..
  8. You did because Julie Andrews was smoking hot.
  9. Yeah nah. You're the one who went off a bit early by stating that Max was not consulted. Do you think that with Max bugging Jason Taylor about Flippers was all one way conversation? Taylor would have obviously asked Max for extra details. That's called consultative communication.
  10. Not a bad earn for bumbling and mumbling his way through a full 12 months.
  11. A GLOWING endorsement from All Australian ruckman Max Gawn played a part in Melbourne selecting young big man Lachlan Filipovic in last Monday's AFL Rookie Draft. Gawn worked closely with Filipovic, pick No.8 overall, in his role as a part-time ruck coach at the Sandringham Dragons during the 2016 season. Although recruiting manager Jason Taylor was all but set on which player he wanted to recruit with the club's first pick, Gawn's character assessment helped confirm Filipovic's selection. "There were a couple of times that I'd come in to the club on a Monday morning and ask ‘Jase’ whether he had seen him (Filipovic) play on the weekend," Gawn told AFL.com.au. "I was always in his ear about this Lachie Filipovic fella."
  12. It's already been noted that the Springvale history will be acknowledged on the playing jumper. For that reason, it would be a consideration in any new club song.
  13. So, this change of name brings with it various challenges - one of them which is significantly important, is the Club song. If you aren't familiar with it, click on the link. What do you reckon? Mention of red white and blue in the lyrics.... should be fine if they play in our clash guernsey all of the time. Casey (Scorpions) Club song Can the tune of a "Grand old Flag' be adopted and massaged a little to capture the Springvale history, which I think is the only consideration.
  14. Would the club have to approve the AFL reporter?
  15. Why the sarcasm? Most people know that the majority of goals are scored from around 30m out and therefore match sim drills are tailored to that. Binman was merely stating that having big forwards with the capability to nail long goals can be very handy when the need arises. A perfect example was when Lynch had the set shot from outside the arc to win the game against us this past season. You will recall that it just missed. If Hoges was in the same situation, I wouldn't have felt the slightest bit confident.
  16. Look champ, I thought there was some good ones too but I think you're overrating them a bit too much.
  17. There's nothing tragic about being a lazy glamour boy. Sylvia proved to everyone he couldn't handle an elite environment when he failed at Fremantle. To think that he may have succeeded in the current development system is just wrong in my opinion.
  18. Huge thanks to all that contributed today and every other session. Being based in Perth makes me super jealous of not seeing the team move forward over the pre season so the reports are like crack to me. Fortunately for me, the lads will be playing WCE here during the NAB (or whatever it is now) and I look forward to sharing my observations when that happens. I think we can all agree that there's a certain feel to next season, one that I think us die-hards can only interpret and make sense of. I believe 2017 is going to be the birth of an incredible window of success for the MFC. Giddy up.
  19. Does Goodwin lose his cool at all like Roosy and Macca do and give the blokes a spray?
  20. As a new training thread begins, I think the previous one should be closed.
  21. I bet he checked in to the Alfred on his Facebook as well.
  22. Yeah, time to burn a couple of turkey legs in the Weber washed down with several Monteith's Pale. McQ, out.
