  1. Woot Kenty boy .... (i tipped this boy wld be awesum!! )
  2. Is there any coverage streaming on this via demonology?
  3. There's a road trip to a Demons Swans match at the SCG in 1983 (or 82), arranged by the club (or possibly the cheer squad) that i COULD elaborate on for that book
  4. I agree re Toump's poise and graceful (skills) side but today's game requires you to make some very quick decision making in terms of disposal or holding on to the ball and taking on opponents etc. While Toump looks great in space and is def nice by foot when given enough time/space, i feel his decision making and thinking is still a yard or 2 behind what is required at today's super quick level. Opponents also run at break neck speed for most of the match and are capable of closing down space much quicker than at VFL level where Toump has so far played alot of his footy. I also feel this lack of quickness in decision making and movement when in possession makes him a little easier to read than most allowing opponents to intercept or pressure him into turning the ball over a little more. Time will tell but i feel he will need to speed up his decision making, agility and disposals to make it at this level. I'm not saying he wont or that he can't either. Just think he has limitations at AFL level until this aspect is improved significantly. Maybe it's a chicken an egg thing and he just needs more time in the AFL rather than the VFL to improve in certain aspects although i'm not sure we are strong enough as a team (yet) to afford such a luxury other than against lowly rated opponents.
  5. He always "looks" pretty good hardtack. But how did he play exactly?
  6. We don't need any luck on the injury front. We've always had such a good run on that side eh... shhhhh
  7. I had exactly the same day OD. Spirit was dampened watching Essendrug well on top early....then the miracle result. What a relief on both counts and for very different reasons! I had actually given up ranting anymore about our woes after end of last season. I had accepted that it is what it is and that Roos is the best man for the job. And that if he couldn't turn this club around nobody would. 1 win isn't gonna convince me we've suddenly turned the corner and everything is rosey but it sure as hell feels better than losing the first round! I am tempted to use the Toyota catch cry here and leap into the air but after so many years of torture i'll keep that in reserve for a while yet.
  8. Nope Yep Don't tinker too much with a winning formula. Some minor fine tuning of the obvious is ok (Vince for Toump)
  9. Hard to believe after so many years OD You little ripper! I just looked at the AFL ladder and thought they had it the wrong way up
  10. My boyhood idol & the only champion i was ever blessed to watch from the MFC during my time so far. Was lucky enough to watch him from day one to his last in the 87 Prelim. For those who may have been too young to have seen him live he was majestic in every way. Amazing reader of ball in flight and just so quick and elusive. If there was a way to get around an opposing player this was the man and the way he looked in full flight was pure magic. This guy wasn't taught how to be great...he was born with a gift and the grace to play our game in a way we might never see the likes of again. R.I.P. Mr R. Flower and thank you so much for the great memories and helping us get to the finals for the first time for me in 87. It was exhilarating! Condolences to family, friends, playing buddies and all at the MFC. Such a loss, way too early
  11. Exactly At such a low ebb we are hardly in a position to start turning away a premiership player who can still turn it on form time to time and provides elusive run and carry attack off HB which most solid clubs who make it into the 8 tend to have at least 1 and sometimes 2 of. Not a huge fan of the carry on off the field either but idc as long as he performs consistently and helps us to start winning. This club will not survive much longer in it's present form if we don't start winning....at any cost. Roos knows this...we need to start winning and if that means importing enough players to help us to start doing so he doesn't give two hoots. It's now or never for the MFC and he knows it. Lets hope he keeps ringing in the changes and imports more players capable of winning us more games, while exporting enough of the dead wood who who just aren't up to AFL level, out the door.
  12. Hasn't been anywhere near his 2010/2011 form in the follwing seasons. Looks like he is running on 2 cylinders since. Obviously he has had injury woes which have probably held him back but i can't see any upside here. Just another Shannon Byrnes situation where we get very little value and a retirement following shortly after. MFC has been trading this sort of damaged goods into the team for decades now with no upside. Apparantly still hasn't learnt and is happy to be bitten over and over again if this trade goes through. Some here will say better than nothing but IMO i would rather offer the position on list to someone who offers us decent upside and years of service rather than a flashy premiership player on his way out. If he can't perform any longer with one of the best teams/support systems going around in the AFL i doubt he will show any further improvement with one of the lower rung teams regardless of whether it was us, the Saints, Blues etc.
  13. The most dissapointing appointment since Andy Goodwin and that's saying something Goodnight MFC
  14. I would probably agree here if it was a standard deal we had with Mitch, but this was probably our biggest money ball in the Club's history. He deserves to be pot shotted at every opp if the rumours and chatter are close to the thruth. In many ways the club should look at any opportunity for compensation both from the AFL and also the player's management group as well for spinning the "i'm depressed i need to retire for now" BS.
  15. I think the Toump over whines selection is just a continuation of nearly a decade's worth of choosing "the wrong option" at the MFC up until PJ came in and appointed Roos anyway. We've paid a massive price for many years of sub par decision making both off and on the field. After so many dumbass deceisions, appointments and selction mistakes It will take twice as long to try and resurect this club. I would advise any member who hasn't already done so to go out and buy yourself about 100 cases of your fav WHINE. I reckn by the time you're onto the 100th case you might finally start to see some light. In the meantime you won't remember any of the crap being dished up on the field.
  16. Oh the other thing lacking at this club...a big obvious i realise, is depth. We have absolutely no serious quality pushing up to put pressure on anyone's place in the 22. Hence all Roos can do is try and turn the list over every week with an injection of 3 to 4 randoms (who might be showing a little form downstairs) and hope for the best. The decision to run with Casey as a potential breeding ground is a poor one IMO. We need to align ourselves with a strong successful culture at VFL level that produces hard nosed footballers who can run hard and finish off good work around the ground. At this stage i haven't seen any of that coming out of Casey. Time to seriously rethink this direction. A huge fail to this point. I would look to link up with Ayres at Port Melbourne if that's at all possible.
  17. I would guess he was testing which of the talls are really worth keeping jack. In the sense that is there any that can maybe play forward and not just ruck? Ie., we have a few talls in the list. May as well only keep those worth keeping who can actually do some damage when resting/pushing up forward. He might not keep any other than possibly the big Russian for one more year until we find a replacement. Probably sees the bulk of them as list cloggers, along with plenty of others in the team.
  18. Guys i really think this is the outcome we needed. The list is crap and Roos now knows this (and would have many weeks ago), apart from a core group of 6 to 8 players max. He's told them you need to show something before the end of the year or your careers are on the line pretty much after the match against the Pies (or thereabouts). So....this is the result we had to have i'm afraid if we are ever to get back to being competitive once more on a consistant basis ...and have some respect from our competitors. Those who really want it and are capable of playing reasonable footy are out there giving it their all AND...showing a little. The rest have been shown up for what they are....nowhere near AFL standard. And those who argued against a major turnover of this list earlier in the season and even just a month or so ago, now have egg on their face. This list is basically shot and would never do anything other than bounce along the bottom holding up the ladder in its present form. We need genuine footballers who can play, pass the ball accurately by foot and hand and who can take overhead marks, stick tackles, keep their feet, run like hell both ways and finish off good work up the ground by hitting targets/goals. We also need some mongrel/animals in the team. Other than Viney/N Jones, i can't think of any i would take with me into the trenches from this lot who can also play. At present we have very few real AFL footballers. For the club to become competitive once more, Roos now needs to completely rebuild this list (outside of the core 6 to 8) from scratch. Wake me up in 3 to 5 years or more once we've won our first "3 games in a row" against quality opposition (which will be post Roos). For only then will we know "something" is finally "in the air". That's if i'm still alive and kicking by the time that happens. Those who still think otherwise.... well.... i feel sorry for ya. You're truly stuck in some sort of warped deluded world of the weird and wacky.
  19. Following their pathetic effort at the MCG against arguably the worst team in the competition, who lost 3 players to injury through the match....Melbourne decided to rename itself the Melbourne Jokers in honour of all players who played this day..... Well done all
  20. We should link up with Port Melbourne somehow. Our name is there....almost same colours....same song. Solid winning culture!!
