  1. Sorry but I have bragging rights OD Posted Sunday at 3:43 PM · Report post I would have thought Garlett firstly. Hasn't performed since Rnd 7 against the Suns. Bottom 4 performer in all rounds since and WOG for us y'day. Averaging just over 1 goal per game since the Suns match and would have thought he would need 2 - 3 on average (at least) to justify his position, especially seeing he is doing little else to contribute. I realise they are diff roles but pretty sure Ben Kenn could handle small forward role in place of Garlett. Need to send a big message here and actually put someone in who who might be willing to work harder to keep the ball i50. Have to try something to improve our forward pressure. Harmes would be next off the block but his recent form (without being acceptable) hasn't been anywhere as bad as Garlett's (until yesterday where he was only 2nd to Garlett for WOG). Yes i know he isn't a stay at home small forward but he does spend a fair bit of time i50 or close to it. Could instruct him to play deeper regardless. Garlett / Harmes from Rnd 8 to 11, 2016 Eff Disp 11 / 39 Goals 5 / 4 Tackles 11 / 14 1%s 3 / 3 Clangers 9 / 12
  2. Yeh Viney was doing light duties with H this morning. Pretty sure he wont be a late Inclusion.
  3. Something along those lines. Many say the bottom 6 players define a team from week to week. As to whether it has any validity i have no idea. In the end i think general work ethic, talent at the top end (100+ gamers) and leadership (knowing what to do & how to win etc) are 3 critical components in successful sides. Roos would appear to have solved the work ethic issue and we have turned this around since the ugly years. Cross played a big role in helping here. Talent at the top end of our experienced 100+ gamers? We could argue that till the cows come home i guess but what we can't argue is that at present we don't have enough experienced/ elite talented players (especially by foot/cool head in a crisis etc) at the top end (100 / 150+ games). Really hope this is our focus for next season. With regard to leadership. outside of Jones, Vince & Viney through the middle and to some degree Tmac/Vince down back, we are still searching for a strong leader up forward (could be Hulk in future given enough games & to some extent Watts is offering this a little by example) and a very strong leader down back to command/organise the troops (Frawley!). Oh, plus we need 1 or 2 match winners (champs) who can take control of a game and win it through sheer will/effort and skill. They may be in the list now (eg., Clarry/Tracc/Viney/Hoges/Tyson) but no one has reached these heady heights ....yet. Fingers crossed.
  4. I would say Wag was the best of the young rookies against the Hawks behind Tracc and Clarry bandicoot. Harmes had the shocker. Grimes has earned it and although there are no games to compare with anyone this year, he was ranked about 3rd for effective disposals last year. Worth a look.
  5. Has averaged only 3 contested possessions and 0 clearances (a more robust stat) in his 3 matches. Would be way below requirements if he is seen as an inside mid by FD. Zero chance of returning this year (barring severe decimation of mid field through injury/suspension) i would think.
  6. I know Roos is ultimately responsible but isn't the line coach (McPherson) the one who's supposed to be driving this side through development and culture? 11 rounds in and we are presently ranked 13th in scoring chains (rebounds) that commence inside forward 50 at the moment. Forward pressure is only one part but that stat commences in our 50.
  7. I am pleased to report that in a recent visit to London i could uncover no further evidence of any pie floaters Man. The last visit, 42 years prior, they were still up and about. I will never forget my first Not sure about the mustard gas but the cream teas and Bakewell puddings are still going strong!
  8. Correct. The 3 most experienced teams this year were against the Tiges (75.1), Saints (75.0) and the Bombers (73.4) The 3 least experienced sides were against the Lions (57.9), the Giants (62.8) and the Pies (62.9). The 3 largest differentials (the first two no surprise) were against the Roos (-87.6), Hawks (-60.7) and the Pies (-30.6).
  9. Hunt and Wagner are very good gets Abe. Even Omac at some point should be ok but is a WIP at the moment and needs to build an AFL body over a few pre seasons before he will be capable of playing consistently good footy/holding his own against the big boys (ie., top 8/top 6 clubs). To play 4 players who have all played on average less than 50 games in defence around some slightly more experienced players in TMac and Nev is always going to result in some severe bleeding down back against the better (top 8/6 clubs) most of the time. Might look good and win a few against those lower down but you need more experience and bigger bodies to get the consistency right. Sometimes the young blokes will all click, along with the older 2, and it will all seem like it's coming together and everyone will rant that it's working but this is usually only against the lessor forward lines/clubs. Play a few youngsters down back for sure, especially when short of options/talent at Casey, but we need to find one or 2 extra experienced guys to fill for next year as BZ said while slowly developing/blooding the young blokes in and out of Casey.
  10. Rjay I wish he was only lost. He was stolen.... how the hell does a club's top 5/10 players end up at a top 4 club already winning premierships? Buddy to Swans. Like these clubs need another leg up. Struggling not! Top 4, from previous season, should not be eligible for free agency coming In.
  11. So we are basically doing a CS blue print but under a new coach with new players. Love the kids but not going to threaten anyone outside of the bottoms 8 or make finals with such an inexperienced list. Time to top up with some experience and big bodies who can play decent possession plus run and gun footy off HB. We have a chance to become a serious AFL club that can beat even the likes of the Hawks of we get the mix of youth/experience right in the upcoming drafts. Hope we don't blow it.
  12. The Pies' zone has been minced up on the G by two pretty quick, reasonably small, hard spreading (middle of the rung or lower) teams this season in the Saints and Port. With many 'out the back' goals as a result. Port even used 2 smalls at various stages, one of them Krakouer, to guard and run off Cloke for short stints. Ben offers the extra run, is able to run/slice/and spread for another option through the Pies dodgy zone. Problem is who do you replace him with apart from Harmes who also offers similar run/speed but did have a shocker on the weekend....replacing like with like? (albeit Ben Ken is 10cm smaller...but probably more slippery!). Being young Harmes might also be 'on' this week, and have a decent one. On balance i would say no change. Let the team settle and lets see what they can deliver, giving Harmes (and Jeffy) one extra shot at it this week. Maybe Jeffy through the mid for a few short stints also to try and get some touch and set the cat amongst the Magpies pretty slow (across the ground) mid field.
  13. Rings a bell. Can anyone confirm this for certain?
  14. Suspect the club are looking for an answer to their 2nd string genuine tall forward requirement to ensure the opposition's 2nd string Key defender isn't going to Watts OD. They can then utilise him more in a utility role when required (ruck relief with Dawes/Pedo as well as occasional defencive roles). Will also be handy to have the opp's 3rd stringer on Watts. He should shine up forward with that (lessor) match up both physically and on the scoreboard. Roos seems to confirm this here.... ....."Dawesy will probably pinch-hit a little bit in the ruck, but we haven’t been unhappy with what Wattsy’s (Jack Watts) doing, but it gives us a bit more flexibility with Dawesy down there,” he said on Melbourne TV’s Roos’ Views. “We had [Justin] Westhoff against us on the wing last weekend, so it would’ve been nice to play Jack [Watts] on the wing against Westhoff. So there are some things that we can do with Dawesy, but predominantly he’s a forward and then we can ruck either Wattsy or Dawesy. Pedo seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird like Dunn this year. Must have P'd someone off. Personally i think Pedo is the better option if Dawes isn't being utilised in the ruck. Can't afford the old single role player anymore unless he's a super star. Pedo can play forward, back and ruck relief. Having said that, we should be looking to recruit a better 2nd string genuine tall forward to replace both. Dixon would have been very handy me thinks.
  15. 1 game back after another long lay off. Doubt he was ever going to play a big role in the ruck this week. Lets see how things pan out over the next few weeks once he's had a few matches to get fully match fit and the bod remains in one piece. If they're not going to play him as a pinch hitter ruckman (as Roos has suggested), and i think they eventually will, then Pedo is a must in once fit.
  16. Roos on the selection of Dawes/Forst for the Hawks match..... ....."Dawesy will probably pinch-hit a little bit in the ruck, but we haven’t been unhappy with what Wattsy’s (Jack Watts) doing, but it gives us a bit more flexibility with Dawesy down there,” he said on Melbourne TV’s Roos’ Views. “Frosty, we’ve been playing down back in the VFL team, and he comes in really to replace Col Garland, as that third tall with Oscar McDonald, Tom McDonald and Frost.
  17. The telling one for me CBD Is the extra pressure they're forwards put on Inside 50. Wonder If this has been the case with most of our games so far. Have we ever got the forward pressure side to a decent standard In this regard since It arrived big time I wonder?
  18. Some early touch through the mid couldn't hurt Hood and i've seen some very nice cameos from Garlo there, albeit they rarely give him a run there. Can't recall seeing him play through there y'day. FD might be worried about him getting hammered or something so are reluctant to play him there too often. I reckon his pace through there adds a diff look for the opponent at times and would be a nice, occasional, change up and maybe help warm him up for better work closer to goal when he goes back again. I also seem to recall him playing occasionally off HB for the Blues and coming through the mid on some mad runs (and a few running goals!) if my memory serves me correctly. We don't seem to try any of that.
  19. Touche'! May have thrown down a few many decades ago Demi. Not so much these days
