  1. I reckon we'll be up and about on Sunday. Reckon we've been prepping for this game for a couple of weeks Hogan (rested) and Watts (enjoying his footy again). Easy week on the track. Visit from the Reverend. All intended to get us over and freshened up after the "top teams patch"... Should come out firing.
  2. Greatest footy moment at that game when Adem Yze's kick off the ground to put us in front, landed on my chest behind the goal, as we all went off... So sweet a day that was... Thanks Neale and best wishes.
  3. With the revision of the Academy drafting rules it's much less of an advantage than it once was (i.e in 2014)... Is it good value to trade 18, 37, 38,57 for Heeney (at pick 2) and pick 64? Or rather Billy Stretch (sans f/s at approx 18), Declan Hamilton (39), Alex Neal-Bullen (40), Oscar McDonald (53) For Isaac Heeney (2) and Jayden Foster (63)?
  4. It occurs to me that Watts out last week, when we get belted, is a nice way to demonstrate to him (and us) how valuable he actually is to the team's success. Roos saying as much in the press conference means he's aware of how to highlight a player's value...
  5. Its shows how badly we've developed and how demoralised by the last ten years we've become, that we look at the prospect of two No#2 draft pick midfielders coming into the team next year as only possibly helping to lift us up the ladder... Agree we need a couple of extra gun mids.
  6. WADA wants Essendon case heard in Switzerland First the Blues buy a hovercraft, now Jimmy's lawyers have to go to Switzerland! This is entertainment.
  7. Article in AFL site caught my attention - The Inquirer: The inside 50 job Some key points...* The Good News MFC are best team at converting I50 (51.5% of the time), MFC are 5th hardest team to score against once ball I50 (43.2% of the time) The Bad News MFC have the Worst I50 For in competition (40.2 average) MFC have the 15th I50 Against in comp (56.7 average) MFC have worst I50 differential in comp (-16.5 per game) Thoughts We currently boast the "best I50 attack" and "5th best I50 defence", despite Having the worst performing midfield, as highlighted by our worst I50 For and I50 Against. Meaning if we fix the midfield, we should rise swiftly. As we all know... but data like this should help attract midfield talent. *these stats are based on rounds in 2015 played and MFC have played team currently placed 1, 4, 5, 6, 13, 16, so results should improve as play rest of comp.
  8. I like it. The outs needed to learn the consequences of mediocrity and the players come in give us dash, if lacking in foot skills. I reckon we isolate Hogan and Gartlett forward, tie the hawks up and absorb their attacks and then aim move the ball quick by hand and foot speed before bombing long to ... Rope-a-dope.
  9. I'd like Jetta on Cyril, but love Salem to spend more time in the middle, maybe by pushing Lumumba's back to the HBF.
  10. Same reason Ablett went to Gold Coast, or Judd to Carlton, they've won a flag and are now looking for a new challenge... Oh, and lots of... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  11. The fish rots from the head, and Clarkos lack of discipline rapidly spread to Hodge and Lewis... Pressure is building at Waverley, and a major boil over on the cards. Demons to come out hard and not get caught...
  12. One of the few consolations for supporting one of the least respected teams in the competition (at the moment) is that when we beat a side above us (i.e. any of them) it sends them into a world of pain and humiliation. Should we pull one out of our "perverbials" and beat the Hawks, they'll have a melt down and the media will start to write them off...
  13. Borrowed this from rusty Nails in Stats thread - Ex Carlton small forwards Eddie Betts and our boy Jeffy Garlett rank in the top quartile of all small / medium forwards at No.2 and No. 25 respectively with Eddie being ranked 34th in the league overall !! Me thinks Carlton may have made a "blue" or two letting these blokes go
  14. For a while there I was able to contain it, tap my inner saint and pretend I was sympathetic to their whining fans... but then I heard they had a hovercraft and thought "screw this! I'm going to let it out!" I am so happy that Carlton are a rabble! Tickled that their prospects are bleak Giggling that their list is malformed. I'm even amused that their hovercraft flipped on the Yarra... I mean as far as warnings of hubris at football clubs go, buying a hovercraft must be in the top ten. Carlton board meeting "Lots to get through tonight boys... first item on the Agenda who gets first ride on our new hovercraft?" Genius! Love it.
  15. I agree we have a way to go. But the Hawks, by losing to GWS, have increased the pressure on themselves to make a "statement" this week and belt us to re-assert their credentials... Rope-a-dope time...
  16. Fair enough Wiseblood! Makes the week go easier fantasising that we can humiliate the team that's spanked us more than most... It may not be us, but I reckon the alarm bells will be ringing out at Waverley at the moment, the Clarko incident, followed by Hodge and Lewis, is a sign of a team no longer thriving on the pressure of being the hunted week in week out. The wheel will turn.
  17. Of the three (Freo, Swans and Hawks), the Hawks are currently weakest in terms of injuries, suspensions and form... If Frawley and Lake out, would hope one of Hogan or Dawes can kick a few. Ideally we'd have Jetta and Viney back this week...
  18. The "flat track bullies" label comes from the games they Won! i.e 1st quarter vs North score at 18-19, and Hodge goes for North Captain with elbow off play (that be the bully part), North lose focus and Hawks able to impose (also the Bully part), Lewis follows up on Goldstein later to ensure North stayed submissive...
  19. Hawks have smashed Geelong, Doggies and North. Hawks have wilted to lose narrowly to Dons, Port and Giants. When the pressure comes on they like to assert their dominance, or they struggle. Reckon if we can put pressure on their ball carriers and then stand up to their inevitable attempts to bully and dominate we can get close. With their outs and the mental weakness that appears to have entered their game and leadership this year, they are beatable. As GWS just showed... Big game.
  20. Thats right! Who did Bennell Vomit on?
  21. I hope the Dev Dept can rejuvenate those boys, but the last two years has seen approx 4-5 new players drafted into the club who come straight into the 22 (Lumumba, Garlett, Newton, VandenBurg, Brayshaw, Petracca*). That most, if not all, of these new players are playing better footy than those on Pickets list is damming, as they too will improve under the Dev Dept... If they continue this, some of those "old timers" will find themselves on the outer or up for a trade...
  22. Agree, although Trengove I'd give another year fully fit to see how he comes back, the rest have this year to step it up... as there will be another half dozen coming in at years end.
  23. Hodge 3 weeks and Lewis out for our clash with the Hawks! And most likely Jack Viney back for that game. Maybe we're a chance?
  24. I reckon next year, we'd entertain going toe to toe with Geelong in a Friday night "Foundation Game". Don't need to make a big ra ra about it but just inaugurate the "Tom Wills Cup" have Martin Flanagan write a nice piece about the soul of the game and we can get on with having a go at the Cats on our home turf... If the Tigers and Blues can hold onto Game 1, despite their performances why not 1 friday night game to celebrate the roots of this game? Similar low key to the Breast Cancer game with the Doggies that also supports womens football.
