Interesting to see if those clubs with women's teams record greater membership growth than those without... and to what extent? also has me wondering if affiliated netball teams (I.e the Pies have a netball team) has a positive membership effect.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
PaulRB replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
In case you don't already hate the Dons enough... read this (with degree of salt) - https://www.zerohanger.com/ricky-nixon-explains-rorted-salary-cap-9852/ -
I think our membership will rise when we win more football games. The articulation (or lack of) of the captain in post game and in other media event is meaningless in this. I.e. Win games = increase memberships, play finals = increase memberships, win gf = increase memberships, articulation and media performance of captain = meaningless. Jacks our best player of the past two seasons, one of our most professional and dedicated trainers and players... he's shifting the culture at the club so we train better and play better. Which will... win us games and... increase our membership. Lots of Henny pennies around here, looking to shoot the kid down. Makes me wonder if you'll be disappointed if he's a great captain, and you are proved wrong.

It's Jack's "great leadership on field and in the training track" that will lead us to a flag. His media performance is meaningless in regards to our footballing result.
-
Maybe Lewis's arrival and rapid elevation to the leadership group indicated to the coaches that we needed to change and improve in this area faster than many assumed or are comfortable with?

Most views being expressed critical of the promotion are outsiders views or sentimental ones. Neither of which will result in us lifting the cup. The promotion suggests (to me at least) that the players, coach and board all see Jack as driving standards and leading this club forward. It's acknowledgement and reward for what Jacks already achieving and doing. The kids a gun and has earnt the respect of his peers and employers, who want him to represent the club and continue to drive it forward. Big statement by Goodwin and the club and I applaud it. Bring it on Jack!!!

Jack Viney has been a leader since he arrived at the Club. His professionalism and intensity at training, his aggression and never say die attitude on the field plus his ability to listen and evolve his game to the point last year he was recognised as our best player at a mere 70 games. Plus he'd have won the bluey in 2015 if not for injuries. The kid's a champ on the rise and deserves the promotion. Jones too deserves to retain the Captaincy, so a good decision all around.

I love it! Congrats Jack. Promoting our b&f winning, ultra professional, brutal ball winning son of a ledgend is a statement about how Goodwin and the team want to play and have leading them!!! Since arriving, but especially since Jack levelled up with Rance for the Watts cheap shot, I've wanted Jack as Captain or Co-Captain. Bloody good move.

The answer to reducing congestion around the ball is...
PaulRB replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
In a contested ball sport, numbers around the ball are an advantage in winning and maintaining control of the ball and game. It's the nature of our game. I can't see why any of the suggested changes will alter that in any but a superficial way. And have no problem with the way the game is... -
I'd prefer a three year cycle where over every three years you play every team 4 times. I.e. You play every team at least once a year with the remaining 5 games cycled through teams again over three year period. I'd also make is it transparent for the three year period. Keeps the whole season alive and is as fair as can be achieved.

I think it was Macca who said of AVB that when he's up and running we usually win... I'm a fan and reckon he's our player most like and likely to follow the Swan's Kennedy's path and heights as a big bullocking mid who hunts the ball and player, hurts when he can both on body and the scoreboard.

It's interesting, as I reckon it was Jack Viney that inspired Max to get serious about his development, craft and ambitions as a player.

Demonland Crystal Ball 2017: Your predictions for next season
PaulRB replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melb to dominate centre clearances by rope-a-doping teams with a combo of the Max factor and then no-ruck but 4 big bodied mids hurting the oppo as they try to clear. VDB, Pedo, Petracca flourishing in this mode. Dee mids take the over-the-head handpass to new levels and lead us to 16 wins, with major beltings of Pies, Blues, Dons and Tigers. We finish the season in second spot. We win three finals. Max, Viney and Watts all poll well for Brownlow, but Bont wins it as he plays a lone hand as Doggies experience the post GF hangover. Hibbert and Melksham slot straight in and along with Lewis play every game, with all three finishing top 10 in the MFC B&F. Casey dominate the VFL and win the VFL premiership. The next gen mids and forwards in Hogan, Wiedeman, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca, Salem and Stretch, continue to grow and impose themselves on games, becoming critical in generating opposition crushing surges that are established as one of the new Melbourne teams trademarks in 2017. Much celebrating is done, and alcohol consumed, as we finally wipe away the failure of the past decade with the new dawn. -
No. wow... ?

Do you really believe our wise Irish President was in any doubt as to Scull Dogs real intention? Give me a break...
-
It was obvious to all Frawley was gone, not acknowledging it allowed the club to avoid awkward and potentially embarrising discussions and decisions. All clubs in a similar situation do it, and will continue to. The alternative is simple too messy and ugly.
-
Why'd we announce it prior to at least the practice games? Our and any new sponsors goal would be to maximise publicity, so now is low value...

While Max is obvious No#1 ruck, the question of who can relieve him for 20% of game time in the ruck while also providing another aspect... at the moment this part time ruck role has been shuffled between Pedo and Watts. Watts in ruck is a loss for us, Pedo is not great in ruck, but offers a strong body up forward when Maxy's rucking. So can Spencer fill Pedos p/t ruck duties and provide a target up forward? Or is he just in there as a back up for the No#1 ruck role should Max go down?

RECRUITS WHO WILL HAVE THE MOST IMPACT IN 2017
PaulRB replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It will be Jack Viney, who's our next Captain or co-Captain. Bleeds Red and Blue, leads by example and as good a player as Lewis... -
I think you are missing the fundamental point that it takes absolute certainly in ones believe in self, team, coach, program etc... to win a premiership in an 18 team competition. Any doubt feeds defeat. Talking it up is about building that certainty in self, team, etc... It's much much more than mere propaganda.

Totally agree, Hibberts penetrating kick to Hunt on the burst, will cause havoc as they perfect it.
