  1. DIO nice to ‘hear’ from you. Yes, it’s been a joy to watch our girls this year. I personally have loved the even contribution, the obvious strong bond between them and the team first approach. Mick S must take some kudos for this. Our leaders over the past 4 weeks (Paxy, L Pearce, Gay, Goldie, Hanks, Hore & Zanker) have been amazing and the emergence of Sheriff, Heath, McNamara, Lampard, Colvin, Tarrant and now McGee has given us a real impetus. Freo at Casey Fields should be doable but we must bring a hunger for the contest and our finishing skills. 2. Just watched the replay on Kayo, such an exhilarating game. We’ve now beaten 4 of the top 6 teams (North, Crows, Dockers, Lions). Brisbane had 98 tackles so our girls were getting to the footy first. Amazing that all our goals were excellent snaps from general play. Scott’s 3, Paxy’s second quarter long ranger and Bannan’s last quarter goal were all rippers but Tyla Hank’s goal showing her persistence, guile and checkside skills was the best! This group is really working for each other. Zanker into the midfield has been an inspired coaching move. Home final next but against who? Bring it on.
  3. Lions pressure was very good that quarter. We are fumbling as a result, we just have to be cleaner. Bris were v impressive last week against North. I had forgotten that Meg D is another defender who is an unreliable kick, our defence is full of them, our midfield needs to keep helping out. That Colvin act that resulted in a 50 meter penalty and goal was costly too. We will need a huge effort in the second half to win. Great efforts by Shelley Scott and Zanker so far. C’mon girls.
  4. I watched Bris beat North last week. The Lions have lots of talent on all lines, very impressive. I will be pleasantly surprised if we win. I hope Downie is available.
  5. What a win! Fancy snatching the lead back away at Fremantle. A few bad misses at goal for us today but no matter, we’re in the 6 and will play finals. Unfortunately it looks like hammy for Goldie. It would be great if Downie is finally fit to come back. There isn’t anyone else available. Paxy, L Pearce, McNamara and Gay were best for us. That’s 3 wins against top 6 sides so get stuffed Carlton and AFL for trying to manipulate results for purposes other than pure football. Go Dees girls!
  6. I find him insufferable but he would hate losing to the Crows. In the play immediately before the hit, he was well chased down which got him angry and he then buried his frustrations in a deliberate bump as Adelaide ran the ball back. There was malice. He should get a week but expect the marquee player free to play ticket will be handed at. And Paddy can then tell us all about his happy place and how you can live a simple life on $750k a year.
  7. Very solid debut by JJ. Commentators saying Jordan Lewis compared him to 2002 Brownlow Medallist Simon Black. He actually reminded me of Joel Corey. Here’s hoping he can build a great career at the Dees in the Number 23.
  8. After watching the Lions ? skittle the Roos ? yesterday, I believe winning today against Freo is our best chance of making the finals. Brisbane will be very hard to beat even at Casey Fields. Interestingly North has not beaten any top 6 teams this year. Their 5 wins were Geelong, St Kilda, Carlton, Richmond & Bulldogs. Whereas we’ve beaten GCS, Richmond, North, St Kilda & Adelaide (2 x Top 6 teams). Assuming Carlton win their last game to finish on 20 points their wins would be St Kilda, Richmond, Geelong, GCS & GWS. Inequitable yes but them’s the breaks. We win one more game and we make it. Go Dee girls!
  9. That was a great win in the context of the season and in our history. To the Casey Sh. 18 doubters please keep the faith, she is getter better and better. And Zanker to the middle has been such a positive, thanks Mick. Speccy Magee's best game too. Hanksy is such a gun and was ripped off with that 'goal'. Our Girls played with real spirit tonight and it certainly lifted mine !
  10. The Dogs have dominated the whole game. Sure hands and nice finishing everywhere. We have scrounged a few goals but the Bulldogs have just played at a higher level from the start. We are not going to finish in the top 4. I suppose this means Oliver is going to Carlton ?
  11. As an aside, former Dee Harriet Cordner, is really playing well for Richmond. A pity, as we are short of good defenders. I don’t know why she left.
  12. No Goldie this week due to a hamstring and McEvoy has been dropped. Speccie Magee is back along with Brenna Tarrant who both played well in the VFLW. It will be a tough assignment against the Saints.
  13. Under pressure, only Hanks and Paxman and possibly Lily M & Kate H can reliably execute skill. Pies seemingly have a strong blend of girls who can kick well and with distance. Of our defenders, no one can really hit a target in comparison to Collingwood. This needs to be a focus for 2022 recruitment. Quite a few quiet girls today, Heath, Paxy, Mithen and Parry has been unsighted since her 3 goals against North. Zanker and Bannan need to do something in the second half. Low expectations, there was little to enthuse and Pies are playing so well.
  14. Colvin has never had so much of the footy
  15. Our decision making is terrible so far. C’mon girls.
  16. Good to see Spargo tackle being rewarded with a free and goal. 87:76 with 8:12 left on the clock.
  17. Are you suggesting Gary is coming up with these rule ideas and advising his brother Steve at AFL house? Buddha was Whiskers temporarily in 1999.
  18. Yes absolutely but I won’t be watching the replay ?
  19. Backline is missing Goldie. Need a big final quarter from Paxy. Parry is being well held and Bannan quiet. Next 15 minutes will tell the story. Go Dee girls!
  20. Yes, what a great win by our girls. The match showcasing some of the highest skills in AFLW, a thrilling edge-of-the-seat finish, plenty of goal scoring and best of all the Dees won. The North midfield of Kearney, Garner, Riddell, King et al has drawn many plaudits along their 8-game winning streak but on Saturday night our midfield led by Paxy, the dynamic duo Hanks and Mithen, a welcome return by Maddi G and L Pearce was equal to the challenge. At quarter time Stinear asked for better connection and more predictable forward entries and got what he asked for with 6 goals. Gee the quality of footy impressed and it’s entertaining and building a fan base. Pleased to read earlier in this thread that the venerable Old Dee, who like many traditionalists I know and who had dismissed AFLW as not ready are taking a fresh look. Being the only sporting alternative to the Lockdown on Saturday night I expect TVs tuned in and stayed for the duration. Several of our girls have begun the year in career best form with Tyla and Lily both recording around 20 possessions per game. Both girls impressively dispose of the footy, under pressure and through traffic. Quick kicks and neat handballs are so valuable as many girls still struggle to execute consistently. At a critical moment in Q4, Hanksy hit up TRex with a gem of a long range pass but the mark was unfortunately dropped. Unsung youngsters Shelley Heath (30) a junior Taekwondo Blue-belt who can really tackle and Casey Sheriff (18) a former basketballer who joined us as Daisy’s maternity leave replacement, have taken the wings and are looking stronger and more confident with each week. Looking forward to seeing our next match on Sunday 3:10pm at the Western Oval. Libby Birch up against her former team will no doubt be welcomed back to the Kennel. Go Dees.
  21. Hardly surprising North came back, they are very good and very fit. If we match their intensity I think we can win. Our backline was a wobbly, Daisy’s kick-outs, Birch’s missed marks. It’s the North pressure. Go Dee girls.
  22. St Kilda Coach, Peta Searle, bemoaned the concessions North has been given. “North are an outstanding side. They’ve got a great list. They started with a great list and they’ve been gifted top-10 players every year to top up,” Searle said. Not surprisingly North are the flag favourites. There looks to be a number of likely teams in the next group including the Dees. The draw will influence where we finish as there are some less competitive teams and we don’t play everyone. There has been obvious improvement with all our girls this year. With Petrevski out with a hammy and Maddi Gay back this week I wonder whether there will be further changes.
  23. Have we ever scored 7 goals in the first half?
