I think posters criticisms of our drafting over the last 5 years are completely valid. After all, we are not full time, handsomely paid, recruiting specialists who are selecting the future of our club. As members (some of us) and, therefore, stakeholders in MFC, we are perfectly within our right to expect the best draft selections possible from the professional recruitment team. If they get it wrong, we want to hold them to account and know why they made that selection. Why would I make a list of this year's top 20 draft picks? I'd have as much chance of picking this weeks tatts numbers as getting the 2013 draft order right. That's why I put my $ and trust into the club to get it right.

Been training with us for a year or 2 already. Will still be on a slightly more restricted program than the senior players, as the young guys often over-train.

I'm sure Rangey/neeldstherealdeal will still manage to get up a 'did we make the right call on Jack' poll.

Pick 4? Good lord no! Why stop at that? Why not pick 3 & 4 plus 13 for a large bunch of B/C graders from other clubs that will struggle to get us out of the bottom 4? We need a number of elite mids and one more quality KPF. Dawes and Wellingham are not these.

Given the Pies have to clear salary cap room, pick 13 for both is appropriate.

Stef Martin plays best as a solo ruck. Not as a fwd, not as a 2nd ruck, not as a backman. He will only develop if he gets the main ruck opportunity at MFC (hope not) or another club. Until then, he's only depth to us. Simple.

FWIW, Chris Dawes' dad was a Melb Uni lecturer and now owns an antique bookstore and I believe his grandfather was one of Victoria's first Supreme Court (?) judges. And here I was thinking Neeld was chasing a dumb gorilla from the Pies!

I do like the idea of Hogan in the mini draft. However, I read somewhere (not sure where) that there is likely to be a number of good KPPs in next year's draft. I would have thought this year we should focus on quality midfielders, whether they be from the draft or trades or FAs. There will be more KPP RFAs next year as well. No point loading up our forward line with highly paid gorillas if we can't deliver it to them. It may or may not be the best example, but the Dorks lost last week with arguably the best KPF (Buddy) in the comp. Did any big fwds win it for Sydney by kicking a bag? Champion midfielders go a long way towards winning premierships. Viney, Toumpas, O'Rourke please.

A future what? Going on our current form over the last 5-6 yrs, we will be playing Jack Viney's son when this happens. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Neither is worth much. At the end of the day, they are both unwanted by their current club, regardless of brownlow votes, grand final medals, etc. Byrnes was snapped up by Melbourne. Moloney is being shopped around to every club by his manager, and it appears no one is all that keen. But if you say so.......

Minus the points lost through getting Byrnes and any other FAs. Byrnes FA points = Moloney FA points, I would think.

Not so sure that the Bummers are any closer to a flag than the Aints. They are closer than us, however, but still not really in the ball park of top 4, which is where a team must be to win the GF. Goddard went for money, lets face it. Good luck to him. Your comment on Dawes is very valid.

Not shooting the messenger, but... I thought that one of the AFLs aims about having the F/S nominations BEFORE the trade and draft period was to separate them and remove all possibilities of draft tampering. Dimwitreau and Underson came out specifically and stated that draft pick deals linked with F/S nominations would be seen as such. It's one thing to play hard ball, but totally another to be warned, still do it and then think that it's ok. Are we prepared to forfeit draft picks in 2013 as a penalty? The AFL community is small enough that everyone involved knows what goes on, including the above mentioned. If you play with fire, don't be surprised when you get burnt.
