That's pretty damn obvious. Nothing is guaranteed in footy. I think they will be top 4 in 2013, if they can manage injuries well. All very handy pick ups. Is this a Collingwood thread? did we miss something JT?

People have been mentioning Koby Stevens from WCE. Is he OOC and is he worth looking at? Perhaps work a late pick or the pre season draft
-
Grimes and gys running together - very good sign. Can't see Gys getting traded if he's running with the captain. Not enuf value to trade - too much up side that needs a full preseason. Good move, good leadership Jack. Keep please. (I did say please...)
-
I think your guess will be on the money Pantaloons. Perhaps a little more for Pearce as he got a 4 yr contract (for what reason is anyones guess)

I heard Tappy has a WoW tatt...

Obviously difficult to tell from a highlights package, but he looks to read the play very well and has a decent turn of speed on him. If he cost us a low draft pick and $150k p/a then I'd be pleased.

We had no say as to losing Rivers. And using the pick we get will always be a gamble, as trades and drafts always are at around #30 or higher. Pederson is more of a mature known quantity than a mid draft 17 yr old and fills a need that Neeld sees in he club. This draft is good at the top but apparently drops away after about 10 or 15. Yes, there are gold nuggets anywhere in every draft, but Neeld has said we have enough kids.

Pick 2 for Fisher? Are GWS completely mad! Lol!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Walsh from the pies said that they were done for trades and will go into the draft with three 1st round picks (stupid really, as they would have been 2nd round picks 2-3 yrs ago). As Young is a FA they don't need to trade for him, they just need to get him to agree before the FA deadline.

We know players like Trenners, Blease, Grimes, McKenzie and even Gys have the talent and ability to be high quality midfielders. I really believe one of the main keys is for these guys to have a solid, injury free preseason under Misson and Team Neeld. While not a midfielder, TMac is proof that a good preseason can set you up for a good year. Add Viney and Pick 4 and things will look up relatively quickly. I'd also be interested to see what Tynan and Taggert can bring to the senior team in 2013.

Draft picks at selections 50+
Moonshadow replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sounds good. Two young draftees (4 and Viney), some senior experience and a rookie upgrade or 2. Or do we have to take 3 from the draft? -
Well done Captain Obvious. Trengove will be selected in round one, but your not sure if he will be picked in three years. No one can possibly know if any MFC player will be getting a game in 3 yrs. As you say, each to their own, but the probability is that he'll still be playing and be our captain in 3 years.. The term 'walk up starter' is such rubbish. Supporters brandish it around like they know whether or not player X will get a game. We'll see, indeed.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
Moonshadow replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Certainly an eventful trade month or us. Like adding Dawes to the mix. Big money, though. Neeld has very strong plans. What happens in a few years time when these guys recruited on war-chest big coin want their contracts renewed? -
Perceived need? Jamar, Gawn, Martin, Spencer and even Sellar might not agree. Our REAL need is a gun midfielder or two who, in time, will become a Swan, Pendles, Mitchell, Watson or Judd.

Lol! And the gems just keep on coming! Thanks for the poster abuse, by the way. Always a good idea to resort to name calling when your comments are being shot down in flames. I truly believe that many on here are working only on the laws of probability - if they keep throwing up options, however ridiculous, one of them will prove true eventually. Bit like the pokies. Frawley is contracted for a reason. Jamar ditto. Garland has been part of a good developing back line for a number of years, and can go forward when necessary. David Hill? No thanks. Keep the baby, throw out the bath water We are going to turn over about a dozen players on our list this year according to Neeld in his presser with Hogan. How bout we keep quality experience and refrain from turning over two dozen? Lol!
-
Orrrrr........ we could give them Jones and Dunn for pick 1, Chip and pick 20 for pick 2, Howe for pick 3 and Silvia for pick 13. Why keep experience when we could have picks 1, 2, 3 and 13!

A bit off topic, but still a murmuring of a crazy time (or in this case, crazy man). Can this man McGuire say anything more ridiculous? What an attention seeking shock-jock. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/149738/default.aspx

In the presser Neeld did with Hogan he mentioned bringing in around 12 players into the 2013 list. Some experienced and some thru the draft. That means that borderline players who are not getting a senior game like Petterd are likely to go to make room. We are going to see a number of 2012 players leave or be pushed. That's the reality of trading this year when you include the mini draft, FAs, 2010/11 compo picks, FA compo picks, and OOC players. There was a good article in the Age on the weekend on the power the FA rules give clubs, as opposed to the power it gives players. Mentions Petterd as a example of a not-yet-RFA player who is OOC and not getting a game in the seniors. Worth reading. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/torn-free-20121013-27kbj.html -
I cannot believe you are a day over 40, BBO. You look great on your avatar for a man of 60. What's the secret? I actually started as a Tigers supporter at age 4 cause I liked the tigers at the zoo. My grandfather was a lifelong dee supporter, so is my father. At around age eight I found myself on the edge of my seat at Melbourne games and not particularly interested in Tigers matches. After declaring to all my friends at primary school that I was converting to a Demon supporter, I got repeated beatings - there were NO other Melbourne fans at school. Must be in my genes. My 4 yr old is now declaring she supports Melbourne, but doesn't quite know what the game is about or what the big deal is. She'll learn.

It will be interesting to see MN's drafting strategy should we take the ruckman Grundy (or should he be available) at pick 4. That would mean we only recruit one high quality small midfielder in this draft (Viney). Most here agree that our midfield sucks and the main priority this year was to get a number of very good mids. So far in the trade period we have seen good results in seeking KPPs. ATM, we have Jones as our only elite performing mid. Whilst Trenners, Grimes, et al might become A graders, I was under the impression that we were going to target very good mids this year. Or do we wait until next year's draft? And yes, I am aware that a ruckman is considered part of the midfield.
-
Ok, I take the 'dumb' bit back. Replace with 'gullible', then. So you don't know anything about Port but you want to trade for their players? Hmmmmmm........... I'm guessing with a new rookie coach, Port will keep what they have (except Pearce and Chaplin, FAs) - unless its an offer too good to refuse. Will build in the draft.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN
Moonshadow replied to Hannibal's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting. Cruise Gartlett wants out, Hansen yet to be re-signed, as is Warren, Edwards and McKinley. McIntosh out, Pederson out. Sounds like a clearance sale. Anyone know much about Gartlett?
