If the Pies can't make a fist of running a bunch of pubs and poke venues with all of their cash and resources, I wouldN't want us doing the same. Where would this cash come from? Howcroft is a very smart operator. I wonder if MFC has use of his marketing expertise. Pardon my ignorance, but what do the MFC board members actually do? Do the have an active, hands-on input into the running of the club or do they just ratify recommendations?

I would think that being a domestic sport (as opposed to an international sport) is not a good enough reason to play the national anthem. It is done at international sporting events to inspire the side from whose country it belongs. In a domestic sport, it has no alegence to either side. For AFL footy this is what the club theme songs are for and why they are played before and after matches. How often to you see the winning AFL team sing the national anthem with gusto in the change rooms?

I think you are absolutely correct, DWA. What we all want to see is consistency throughout the year. Reasonable interpretations of the rules delivered consistently. Shouldn't be such a big ask, should it?

I don't give a flying fcuk if they were born in Managatang, Brighton or Timbuktu..... as long as they commit to being the very best they can be and deliver on this within the Neeld framework. Otherwise, who cares? (Although I read that Timbuktu is now under Taliban control, so it'd be pretty tough to get on an AFL list from there)
