Rumour has it (and please remember this is a rumour thread) that Sydney are going to make a big play for pick 1 involving Mummy and Reid to GWS and possibly an established midfielder. Whatever the mix, they are going to have a crack at pick 1. Got to clear some salary cap space and want to add youth. Tippett and Pike in ruck, Buddy CHF and Boyd at FF. This would surely have all other clubs screaming to Vlad. Source: an in-law relative who has had connections at the Swans for 40 years. Don't know if this one is true, but same person told me 2 mths ago Buddy would be at the Swans in 2014 and was buying property in Sydney. I laughed at the time. Like all rumours, take with a grain of salt.

Your second sentence disproves the first Bitty. At your age you should give up the dad jokes.

I once shook hands with Peter Moore when I was 15. Does that count as being in the know?
-
I know I'm setting myself up here, but Bitty as your dear friend once said "please explain".

One of the issues I have with the FA system is that the club losing the FA generally gets poor compensation and the club gaining the FA gives up nothing but money and a spot on the list. In in the case of Colin, Freo are only paying about what we were going to pay him. Surey the gaining club should have to give up something beyond cash, otherwise the poor feeder club theory wins out every time. It's simply not equal.

Would have been good to have kept Thomson out of the mits of Adelaide all those years ago, but alas...

Said it before, but I think the actual pick for compo should not only be based on where the club losing the player is on the ladder, but there should be a factor of where the club gaining the FA is on the ladder. Either the compo band is enhanced, or maybe the gaining club loses a pick in the round of the band. There needs to be disincentive of top clubs feeding off lower clubs.

I like all of this FA agreement deals, and some non FA deals such as Mummy, when the AFL rules stipulate that no deals are to be done until tomorrow at the earliest. It's like anything goes, do whatever you like and then post date the agreements.

On the positive side, If we use his compo pick wisely (perhaps pick 19), it could help set us up in the midfield going forward. Zak Jones anyone? I feel much better about our recruiters now than I did 2-3 years ago.

Thanks for clarifying that Deanox. Very useful info. Of course, the compo is also calculated (as much as the AFL does any transparent calculations) using any FAs picked up by the club losing a FA.
-
My understanding was that it is band compo which goes after the club's pick in that round. So yes, it is based upon the ladder position of the club losing the player. I wonder if there should be a compo factor included re the ladder position of the club receiving the FA. That way there is less incentive for a high club feeding off a lower club.

Geez that's a pretty impressive highlights reel.

GWS really want experienced quality players. I think they would dearly love to trade pick 1 and if they got pick 2 would like to trade that as well. Now they don't have Buddy, they desperately need more experience. Hence Mummy.

Oops. Should have read 'Thank you, I had Kate Upton'.
-
Thank you Kate Upton.
-
Can someone clarify this?If he is leaving, we probably will be 'advantaged' by our low ladder finish in that a band 3 comp (if we get a band 3 comp) will be about pick 20, straight after our 2nd round pick. Is that how it works?

This thread is flat, and Bitty has drained its energy.

Optus, slow, has been or 2-3 days.

Not meaning to have a go Django, but i dont believe draftees would be nervous coming to the club. The young boys we drafted this time last year were super excited to become Dees. Barry and Toumpas were over the moon, despite us being rubbish. With Roos, PJ et al on board, this year's will also be thrilled. They are 17/18 yrs olds living the dream. Over the course of a footy career, there's every reason to believe any club can turn it around, even our club.

But it's true... the late night flight to Brisbane, the dark sunglasses, the big red folder with "Black ops Rockcliff - top secret" on it... If we cannot trade 2 for a deal involving a seriously good player, I'd be happy with Aish as well.

Don't think Dawes is a waste of drafting, but agree with the sentiment of your point Bluey
