Anyone who cans a player's performance after only a handful of games, be it Grundy or Toump, should have a good hard look at themselves. Players cannot control press hype, its the media's job to create hype.

Fair enough good oil. But I just can't agree that a guy can be overhyped at the moment when at the moment his history is 11 AFL games. After 50 or 70 games, maybe. Several of his early games were very good, so on percentages of good games to bad he's doing better than Watts, but Watts has played about 80 games. Statistics can be misleading. My point being is that it's ridiculous to call a guy overhyped and very mediocre at the moment after 11 games.

Granted that Brodie Grundy has not had a good first 4 games, but isn't this his second year? Has only played a handful of games. Bit tough to be made first ruck for the most followed team in your city after only 7 first year games. Should be still learning in the 2's. Just turned 20. Loads of up side. Doesn't compare yet to the disappointment of Nic Nat. I'd love him playing alongside Spencil.

I admit I was wrong. I hoped we wouldn't get Dawes from Eddiewood. Thought he was a bullet to dodge. Very pleased to be wrong. Showed great leadership yesterday. Loved watching him give instruction to other forwards. Will be great to see him and Hoges play together.

Yes, this will be a very interesting year for our current ruck stocks. Spencil has played barely more than a handful of games and is giving it a good crack. Love his endeavour, 2nd and 3rd efforts and he's now starting to take a few marks and getting his foot to hit the ball occasionally. Roos will love his effort and determination. Has grunt but not sure about smarts. When a guy lacking in skills throws everything he has at the contest, it's hard not to have a soft spot for him. Jamar is anyone's guess. On the wrong side of 30, but with considerable experience. I'm not a fan - doesn't tap effectively, barely takes a contested mark or kick a goal these days. We've seen him do it in the past, but rarely since AA with Beamer at his feet. Max Gawn needs to show us he can get a good run of games under his belt. He has ability, but needs to get on the park more. He's young and hopefully worth the wait. Can play forward and snag a goal. And there's Max King.... I know we have come off 7 bad years, but I honestly believe that with another couple of high quality midfielders, a bang on ruckman and a good run with injuries, we will become a very competitive unit. Maybe Roos et al will go shopping for these at season's end...
