Gaff is just ok, but only if he won a B&F or finished top 3 in the Brownlow or was an AA, then I'd want him at the Dees

How dare you let facts and reason get in the way of childish defiance!

New CEO - Gary Pert
The industry they are in is football, not a share price, dividend driven market. And yes, they still do the equivalent to meat raffles, eg. Silent auctions for wine, jumpers, president lunches, etc. CEOs in real business don't do that. Missed the point again. Keep going if you wish. I'm out.

Missed the point again. Let's move on chap

New CEO - Gary Pert
Sorry chap, you missed the point, which was that I was surprised PJ wasn't involved in any way. Not sure which bit you are struggling with, unless you don't trust him or disagree with his opinions. The admin is part of a football club, which is not like a "normal business". Comparing a footy club with a normal business is a mistake, otherwise we would've folded years ago Caro has better intel than you could ever hope to salivate over. Sour grapes

I too would've consulted PJ. The guy is an open book. I highly doubt he wouldn't put the club's interests first or let ego get in the way. Pert's appointment may be a master stroke, but to me it sounds like the process could've been handled better. That Bartlett read the landscape wrong is evidence of this.

As I said, lol posters playing the man. Wilson named plenty of people. If you read it for what is says without rose coloured, anti-Caro glasses, there are clearly some concerning issues in the appointment process. Comparing an AFL club with a "normal business" is ridiculous. It's similar to posters comparing player payments with what they'd get in the 'real world'. Apples and oranges. Jackson being involved in the selection process, as opposed to "ticking off the incoming" CEO, makes perfect sense, unless of course, you don't respect or trust PJs opinion. I certainly do.

I thought it a good article, assuming what she writes is accurate. There's a lot in there that I wasn't aware of, some of it unfortunate. What concerns me is the separation of PJ from the selection process. He has more knowledge of how to run an AFL club that the whole board put together. Also, the lack of contact with some of the key people during Pert's time at Collingwood seems to defy due diligence by the board. And lol to posters playing the (wo)man rather than the ball.

Darwin game dumped
Nice sentiment, but imo on a 12 deg, wet winter twilight game at the G vs Freo, Port, Brisbane or GCS we would be lucky to draw 20,000. I haven't checked figures from a range of attendances of interstate teams vs lowly supported Vic teams (like us) this year at the G. And would the property above the Jolimont rail line be ours or would we lease the development from the govt? The state and/or federal govt would need to tip in at least half of the money needed to build. Not sure they'd give us ownership as well.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Apart from the historic MCG and Punt Road grounds, where is there a sporting oval or field that side of the train tracks? As a MFC supporter, sure I'd like to see it happen. But a cursory look tells me it should be where the sporting density is: on the other side of the tracks. Loss of open parkland (as opposed to sports facility) and mature trees will be a hot topic at election time. IMV building over the train line is the easier part to get done, if we can get the funding. Maybe this has gone a fair way towards being approved, i dont know. Sure hope we aren't suffering from premature elation. At the end of the day I trust PJ to make the right call.

So they keep Gov and drive up the price of Gaff to maximise compensation when he leaves

Darwin game dumped
Sure, but the issue is more nuanced than 3 word slogans. If we can get Friday night FTA TV and make good money, then 2 games in Alice against Freo/Port/GCS is better than one in each of Alice and Darwin. The red centre isn't too hot or humid mid year. 'Flat' is a furphy. Better than a financial loss at the G in front of 18k

That seems to make sense La Dee. With reasonable proposals, it's a good time to be seeking govt grants

Darwin game dumped
Maybe, but if there is TV coverage and the club makes decent $, it's better than playing in Darwin

Maybe they are thinking of 2 games per year in Alice

Comments below article in The Hun have some up in arms that the govt would be giving up public park space to a football club. Not really accurate at all, as it would value add to the park and only be used by club during training times. I'm guessing it would have a basic fence like Goschs. Assuming there is no building proposed on parkland and there are no decent sized trees involved, I can't see the problem. Goschs Paddock oval could even have its posts and fence removed to make it less of a sports ground.
