I was very impressed with Kent against Carlton. I hope he can get back on the field soon to build on that performance. Jack Viney and Tom McDonald are two others who have exceeded my expectations. McDonald was unlucky in Round 1 and a little off on the weekend, but I think he looks much more confident and composed than in previous seasons. Viney has had more of an impact than I'd anticipated he would after his very limited preseason.

Frankston v Casey Scorpions
Good Times Grimes replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
McDonald was fantastic against the Blues last week. He had one off week, he's not "way off his best". -
My recollection is that Frawley usually goes okay against Buddy. I'd like to see Frawley go back and take Buddy and maybe move Dunn forward in his place. IN: Garland, Kent (if fit) OUT: Terlich, Evans

I get just as annoyed by questionable umpiring decisions as anyone else, but we had a few go our way as well. The umpires decisions did not change the outcome of the game.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 5
Good Times Grimes replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. N Jones (as usual) 5. Viney (getting better every week, although he still tends to fade in and out of games a bit) 4. Cross (has been way better than I thought he would be) 3. Dawes (missed a couple of crucial shots, but overall was impressive. 2. Frawley (see Dawes comments) 1. The supporters for being vocal throughout the match despite a small turnout. -

Tonatopia, I think you need to get on the reality bus. -

The List Manager. Great football brain..... -
That's okay, next year will be his breakout year.
-
I think he plays his best footy in the backline. Neeld too often put him up forward, and he struggled. If he's going to survive on the list, I think he will need to be played as a defender.

Ross Lyon thrilled with Sylvia's WAFL outburst

Sounds like typical Jamar!

Some very interesting match-ups there, and a few that I wouldn't be at all surprised to see going either way. My predictions (often a kiss-of-death for the teams I think will win) Pittsburgh v Columbus- Pittsburgh in 5 New York Rangers v Philadelphia- New York in 7 Boston v Detroit- Boston in 6 Tampa Bay v Montreal- Montreal in 5 Anaheim v Dallas- Anaheim in 6 San Jose v Los Angeles- LA in 7 Colorado v Minnesota- Minnesota in 7 St Louis v Chicago- St Louis in 7 The ones that I italicized are the series that I think will be the most exciting to watch. NYR v Philadelphia will be crazy.

Yeah, I understand where it comes from, but it drives me nuts! I can't wait until he can start playing consistently and the media are forced to eat their words.
-
I can't stand this! Every time he takes a mark or lines up for goal the commentators say "how fitting would this be...the much maligned number 1 pick can extend/reduce the margin by putting this one through." FFS! There is no other player in the competition that has their draft number mentioned every time they play, let alone every time they touch the ball. Ridiculous!

Will Kennedy-Harris fit on the back? Especially since his jumper would be an extra-small to begin with.
-
Fair enough, but I put him in the same bracket as Dawes was this past weekend. If he's fit to play at all, he should be playing AFL not VFL. I won't be too fussed either way as I'd be quite happy to see no changes made to reward the 22 for their victory.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Good Times Grimes replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It depends...how are you defining talent? Skills? If so, which skills? Watts and Toumpas are both beautiful kicks, but their tackling isn't great and both are far behind Howe in marking ability. I haven't seen enough of Hogan or Salem to comment on their "talents", but I do agree that Tyson is a very complete footballer (great hands, kicking, tackling). I would argue that Dunn is quickly moving up the list of most talented people at the club, and I think that Jones is at the top of that list. -
If he's going to be playing in the VFL anyway, what's the difference?
-
I'd like to see Garland come in, even if underdone a bit. If Terlich is unable to play, it's a straight swap. If not, Evans is the unlucky one.
-
But Spencer offered us something around the ground on Saturday. I can't remember the last time Jamar did that.

I'd take more notice of the Players top 50 that's been on the AFL site over the last few weeks. 5-6 players in Sheahan's list would be great, sure, but 5-6 players that opposition players rate as tops in the competition is much better than a Herald Sun journo's opinion. -

I suppose so, when you look at it that way. I hate the whole idea of Sheahan's list. How can he produce a pre-season list of the top 50 players in the competition that is radically different to the postseason list that he publishes just a few months prior (with 0 games being played in between)? The list holds no merit to me. -

That list means nothing, regardless of whether Jones features in it or not.
