  1. Now that the news has sunk in a little bit I took the time to send a message to the Stynes family through the melbournefc website. I thought I'd share it: Jimmy was a childhood hero of mine. My Dad and I used to go to every Melbourne game in Victoria to see him and the Demons play. When my mum passed away of cancer when I was still quite young, going to the MCG and watching Stynes and the Demons play really helped my family get through some tough times. After the Demons one point victory over the Lions in 2008 I was lucky enough to go down to the rooms and meet the great Jim Stynes. It was pretty crowded down there with all the players' parents in attendance. Jim took the time to have a long conversation with my Dad and I, and you could tell that despite the mass of people that he probably wanted to talk to more, he still listened to everything we had to say and humoured a couple of starstruck fans. He radiated a sort of charm that cannot really be put into words, and I feel privileged to be able to say that I got to meet such an incredible person. Jimmy may be gone, but he will live on through the impressions that he made on every person that he met.
  2. Would love to have Martin, but the consensus amongst AFL clubs and the media was that Scully and Trengove were clearly the top 2. I don't know of many who would say that at the time Martin would have been a better selection.
  3. Obvious choice. Aren't we allowed to promote 2 more rookies? Is there a date when this has to be done by?
  4. After watching the way he conducted himself yesterday in his interviews, I have no doubt that provided he can stay healthy, Grimes is ready to lead the Demons back up the ladder.
  5. Rest in peace, Jimmy. Your legacy will live on forever, and you will continue to be an inspiration for years to come. Thank you for everything you have done.
  6. It all depends on the first 11 rounds of the season. If we can get 5 wins out of those matches it would be a massive result for us. Our final 11 matches are all very winnable. I'm not saying that I think we're going to win all 11, but I think we are a good chance to win 7 or 8 of those matches. I'm hoping for a top 8 finish, and I think it is entirely possible. We could finish anywhere from 6-12th, IMO.
  7. Keep fighting, Jimmy. It's not over 'til it's over. What an inspirational man.
  8. You must've dranken a slab before making that bet!
  9. I'm not saying Couch would be a sensational FP, I just think he is a viable option for the position. I just think that with the players we have, having Blease on either a HBF or HFF would be most valuable. Also for the record Blease hasn't scored any goals yet either
  10. I think Blease in the forward pocket is a waste of his abilities. I would rather see someone like N. Jetta or even Couch in a FP.
  11. Agreed, especially since he has recently been promoted to the leadership group. I'm a Bartram fan and think he's an undeserving whipping boy.
  12. Striker, looks like you were right. It seems that in his retirement Sheahan has forgotten which players are actually good, and has just drawn 50 names out of a hat.
  13. I think that since we're *hopefully* on an ascent up the ladder while the Bulldogs are on their way down, and in addition to that more compensation picks being at play next season due to GWS having another season to poach players, we should activate them as soon as possible so the players are ready to go ASAP.
  14. I'm glad he got another chance at AFL level. I think he deserved a few more games that he got last year and fell out of favour with the Bailey camp early on in his Demon days. Good luck to him (except when he plays the Dees), I'm sure he will make a decent player for the Tigers.
  15. I like it. JV will be a loyal Demon and it would be great to rid ourselves of the recent bad connotations associated with #31.
  16. They did win back to back, but it's nearing 20 years ago now (92 and 93). Unfortunately I was too young too follow it then, and not living in Toronto until a few years later. It's the last time a major Toronto team has won a championship though, and the Jays look like the only one out of the big 3 (Raptors-NBA, Maple Leafs- NHL) that could do it any time soon. It's taken especially seriously in the States with the Boston/Yankees rivalry probably being the biggest. I've only seen snippets of that documentary, but I do know the story behind it. Whenever I get down on the Demons, I just try to think- hey, it could be worse. The Cubs haven't won in 103 years and counting!
  17. Yeah it looks legitimate. I strongly disagree with Mike, this year. I do think Franklin is probably #1, but he loses me after that.
  18. There is no way that Sandilands is the third best player in the competition. Absolutely no way.
  19. It will be interesting to see this list in 5 years time and see where we are at. One would hope that by then the likes of Watts, Trengove, Grimes, Tapscott and Gysberts are not only on this list but in the top 25 or so players. I can't be bothered tallying up each team's representatives on the Top 50, but does anyone know if we're the team with the fewest number of players on the list?
  20. I think Moloney deserves a sniff. Other than that I agree with it.
  21. Haha I actually just watched that video and was about to take my comment back. She is still way better than Burgan.
