  1. Surprising seeing how the reigning Brownlow Medallist makes so few of these lists...
  2. The reason behind this is that Watts is man enough to come out and speak to the media after poor performances. The HS seems to write an article about every single interview, and The Age will write about anything the HS writes about. That's why there are at least 5 articles about Watts receiving a 'spray' from MM and WC. $cumbag does not speak to the media unless he has played well, and as such there are not as many articles written about him.
  3. You're right, and I cannot wait to see who it is that will step up. Based on the weekend, I think Davis will be playing a bit of senior footy in 2012.
  4. So, Chippy, what would your best line-up be based on what you already know about players, or what you have seen them do in preseason? Assume no injuries/suspensions. Mine is: B: Bartram Frawley Rivers HB: Grimes Garland Tapscott C: Howe Moloney Gysberts HF: Sylvia Watts Jurrah F: Green Clark Petterd Foll: Jamar Jones Trengove Int: Martin McKenzie Magner Bail (sub) Emergencies: Bate, Strauss, Bennell
  5. I love seeing those three on the bottom and the filth outside the 8. If only this is what the actual ladder would look like come the end of the season...
  6. Ahh I remember his performance in the 2000 GF. Played an excellent first quarter and was one of our few good players on the day. I can't really remember many of his other matches though.
  7. I think this is a similar idea as to what Schwab is trying to do. He is working on the Chinese community and trying to get them to become Demons. Hopefully our front of jumper sponsor will be a Chinese company that will help to give our membership a boost. If we play another preseason game or two in China it will hopefully also drive up membership. I think Richmond and GWS are playing off in India next year. I think we should focus on China for the time being. It could be a major win for us if we can get a chunk of the Chinese community on board. And, like you said, we need to focus on converting more Demons supporters into Demons members! (To be honest, I have not yet signed up for membership. I will be doing so when my pay comes through next week).
  8. I'm not too concerned with winning this game. I just want to see a similar effort to what was put in on Saturday night, perhaps with cleaner disposal.
  9. I'd like to see Strauss have a run, if fit. I want to see where he's at after such a horrendous injury. I'd ease Trenners and Tapscott into it, since they are both very important players and we need to carefully manage their loads. Frawley should be rested, as should Jones and Jamar. I'd also like to have another look at Tynan. Based on what I've seen so far, I think he will be playing a bit of senior footy this year. I'm a fan already.
  10. So, based on this information Evans, Gawn, Jurrah, and Spencer will be unavailable for selection for round 1. Not too shabby, considering that Jurrah is probably the only player that would be pushing for selection if he were fit anyway.
  11. AFL 1. Pendlebury 2. Ablett 3. Franklin 4. Swan 5. Folau. Just kidding... probably Judd Dees: 1. Frawley 2. Sylvia 3. Clark 4. Jamar 5. Jones
  12. I think the repercussions would be worse if we didn't allow LJ to go. It could create a sort of resentment in him and result in him wanting to leave the club when his contract is up. It is important that the MFC and its supporters respect the rituals of Liam's community, and understand that he has duties to perform. We knew this when we recruited him. It's not like he's missing the Grand Final, FFS. He's injured and missing a couple of weeks of NAB Cup footy which he wouldn't be playing in anyway. I know I'll get responses saying that it's pushing back his rehab, but I truly believe that him going back home for a week or so and returning will reinvigorate him and hopefully put him in good stead for 2012.
  13. As much as I would love to have him back for round 1, the punishment fits the crime, and the players need to continue to respect Neeld's approach.
  14. I've heard it said many times that he can do squats like a freak.
  15. Courage is key, but only when combined with size will you consistently get the hard ball.
  16. I agree with you there. The main reason behind recruiting the likes of Magner, Sellar, and Couch.
  17. We looked like a much more organized and competitive team than we have in recent memory. If it weren't for all the skill errors we would have won the game by a lot more.
  18. I think confidence also plays a huge factor. Confidence is not just based on your own abilities, it also about confidence in your game plan, confidence in your coach, and confidence in your team mates. Last year whenever we gave up a couple of quick goals we would drop our heads and the opposition would run away with the game. I think Neeld is working very hard to instil in our players that they need to keep playing and trying no matter the score. I don't think that Dean Bailey was a master motivator. Edit: Spelling.
  19. Just got around to watching it a few hours ago. Very impressed by Jones, Magner, Sellar, Howe and Davis. I think Davis will play some senior footy this year, and Sellar will be very important to our team. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of Tynan. Fitzpatrick looked decent in his limited stint. I'd give dual BOG to Petterd and Garland (I know he made two errors on this play, but how good was his mark while falling over?). Dunn replicated some of his 2010 form. Martin was good, bar running directly into Steele Sidebottom in the last quarter. Watts went relatively unnoticed, but with Clark playing and taking the best defender will have a much bigger impact. Nicholson needs to learn how to kick. If he can do this he could become a very good footballer. Couch looked comfortable, I wouldn't promote him from the rookie list just yet though. Even though it was only the NAB Cup, there is nothing quite like beating the filth. I think there is hope for 2012.
  20. I'm pleased with the way this ended up. Bombers deserved nothing. Saints were all class, arriving at the venue and then putting on a scratch match when their opposition didn't show.
  21. I'm pretty sure Matt Damon can be added to that list. EDIT: Found a longer list: http://footy.wikia.c...rs_of_AFL_clubs John So (Former Lord Mayor of Melbourne) (#1 ticket holder) Terry Bracks (wife of Steve Bracks, #1 female ticket holder) Derryn Hinch (news presenter) Rob Sitch (comedian) Baz Luhrman (film director) Max Walker (former footballer, cricketer and humourist) Wilbur Wilde (musician) Matt Damon (actor) Rupert Murdoch (phone tapper extraodinaire) Joseph Gutnick (businessman) Karl Kennedy (fictional Neighbours character) Rhoderick Gates (political activist) Scared Weird Little Guys (Comedy act) Anthony Mundine (boxer) Shane Bourne (comedian) Mal Walden (newsreader) Alan Stockdale (former Victorian treasurer) Brad Hodge (cricketer) Steve Moneghetti (marathon runner) Ella Hooper, Jesse Hooper (Killing Heidi) Beverly O'Connor (television and radio personality) Neil Mitchell (radio shockjock) James Tomkins (rower) Nicky Buckley (television personality) Geoff Cox (television presenter) Bobby Valentine (musician) Ian Henderson (newsreader) David Bridie (singer/songwriter) John Rothfield aka Dr Turf (radio presenter) Rob Gell (television weatherman) Greg Evans (television personality) Mike Sheahan (sports writer) Jan Sardi (Oscar nominated screenwriter) Michael Veitch (comedian and writer) Clint Stanaway (channel 9 news reporter) Peter Storch (Dysons busdriver) Archie Thompson (Soccer/football player) Adam Kain (telecommunications guru/Nathan Carroll's best mate) Travis Little (vertically challenged Tasmanian goal sneak, celebrity chef) Rod Gerstman (all round fuuny guy, played chunk form the movie Goonies)
  22. I'm glad that this doesn't seem to be getting to Watts. I thought he did an okay job without being a standout on the weekend. There is plenty of room for improvement, but his game is way too heavily critiqued for such a young and developing player. He'll have his good games, he'll have his bad games, and he'll have his average games, but I guarantee that he WILL come good, it's just a matter of time and developing some consistency.
  23. Love it. The footage of the team walking off after the Broadbridge tribute game gave me chills. Go Dees! Looking forward to big things in 2012!
  24. It's only a matter of time before Eddie mentions it on Triple M and the [censored] hits the fan. I am so glad that we don't have to go through this again.
