Eddie McGuire Steps Down Effective Immediately
Grapeviney replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The sad thing is that for many people, the booing and the controversy is how they’ll remember Goodes, rather than his remarkable football feats and the superstar of the game that he was. Nicky Winmar is much the same - he’s said in interviews that he understands how the incident at Vic Park is an iconic moment in football history - there’s even a statue of it - but for him, it’s just a reminder of the worst day of his life.- 243 replies

So no-one could be bothered driving for an hour to watch training from behind a fence and then writing a long report about it? This forum is hopeless!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Grapeviney replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
This just came in the post.. I've got mail on Ben Brown! -
I've seen it suggested elsewhere on here before that the Big Freeze should be shifted from QB to the Melbourne-Essendon game, an idea I like. QB won't lose anything of its status or crowd, but it would lift the Dees-Bombers game into the blockbuster category - a win for both clubs and the league. And I also agree with @Wrecker45and others that it's long past overdue for Neale to be named Australian of the Year - what are they waiting for?

My brother came across this while cleaning out the house today. Someone must have the full set of 56 - all the sorry letters (and now emails) dating back to 1965. It begins: "I feel sure that you are probably relieved that the football season, for us anyway, is now over." How else to spin a season in which we won 1 game, by 1 point? The good news is the coach can see light at the the end of the tunnel, and if we donate to the club, the funds "will be utilised in acquiring some top name interstate recruits for next season." Now where have I heard all that before?

Bigger than the Weideman surprise? You wrote him off just as emphatically..

Updated for 2020 with new crying victim Charlie Dixon. I'll be shedding a tear too if Jack leaves and we have to close this thread.

It's hard to think of a more polarising player in the modern era, and I'll never forget the 2017 B & F when large sections of the room booed when Jack's departure was mentioned. My favourite version of the different calls of QB 2017 is from 3AW - Tim Lane nails the drama of the occasion, and I love how you can see and hear the crowd rise in expectation as the ball travels down the southern wing.

No no no The word when he left Port was that he was already over footy then, and he hasn't regained that desire since crossing to Hawthorn - just happy to earn a pay cheque. This is Crawf shopping around damaged goods. His last good year was 2016.

I've read many poems about Trent throughout the course of his career, but this is definitely the best of them.

That was damn near perfect. Dominated early and got the score on the board before the rain came, and answered quickly every time they goaled. In a season of sometimes turgid footy, that was as watchable as it gets.

It's got nothing to do with being a mod. You're not going to get banned for posting like a primary school kid. I just don't like seeing MFC champions disrespected (Jones) and other players repeatedly abused ad nauseam (Spargo).

Enough already. We get it, you don't rate him. No need to repeat it 10 times over. The way you talk about our players ('Jones a has-been') is pathetic. Criticism and discussion of a player's shortcomings is fine, but repeated three-word posts that say 'X is a spud' contributes absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Unfortunately it's still up there dazzle - it's in the replies section. Absolutely pathetic, and anyone who's on Twitter should make their feelings known.

Yeh nah. Your Jesse Hogan posts were deleted because they were unsubstantiated rubbish ('he was at a party in my apartment building'), not because you had any 'inside mail' that needed censoring. You then pretended to be a lawyer when you were called out on your limited understanding of defamation and the legal risk to which you exposed the site's owners, one of whom is an actual lawyer.

Racial Vilification of Harley Bennell
Grapeviney replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is the front page of today's West Australian, the perfect example of how Aboriginal people are often treated differently than the rest of us in the criminal justice system. Try and imagine your 86-year-old dementia-suffering grandmother going to jail for spraying a neighbour with a garden hose. You can't. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "An Aboriginal grandmother with dementia spent nearly a week in a maximum-security prison after spraying her neighbour with a garden hose, in a shocking case that has WA Attorney General John Quigley questioning whether she would have been incarcerated if she were white. "The 86-year-old was charged with breaching a 'misconduct restraining order' in April after allegedly spraying her neighbour with water from a garden hose and swearing at her. "In Rockingham Magistrates Court she was remanded for 8 days at Maleluca maximum-security prison and spent 6 days behind bars before Legal Aid was able to free her. " 'I am deeply concerned that a woman in her 80's with dementia was held in prison cells for almost a week without the option of bail,' Mr Quigley said. " 'I have to ask myself whether an elderly white woman with dementia from a wealthy suburb would have found herself in prison in such circumstances." -
Racial Vilification of Harley Bennell

Given that most people won't read the report you've linked, it's a shame you didn't explicitly express the point I'm guessing you wanted to make - that the majority of Indigenous deaths in custody are from natural causes, suicide etc, rather than guards / cops killing them, and that the rate of Indigenous deaths in custody is actually lower than it is for the rest of us. It's important, and people should understand what's behind the 430+ number that is often quoted. But that doesn't take away from the injustice of some of those deaths. Reports with stats don't tell the stories of Tanya Day (a relative of Nev's wife, I believe), who was picked up for public drunkenness but didn't get the friendly ride home which Steele Sidebottom had the other week when he was found naked and drunk in the streets. People should read the accounts of the deaths of people like David Dungay Jnr and Cameron Doomadgee, whose spleen was so badly injured it was basically split in two, and ask themselves whether any white Australian has ever 'died in custody' the way they did? It's scandalous that 30 years after the RC, most of its recommendations still haven't been implemented.- 206 replies

Let me get this straight. Paragraph 1 says he should just cop the racism because he's had a pretty good life otherwise (especially for a non-white guy, hey?). Paragraph 2 suggests the racism at CFC was pre-emptive karma for his poor efforts at the MFC (because we all know that racism is not as bad as someone not doing their job properly....). And paragraph 3 blames H for it all anyway - he could have stopped it if he really tried. In conclusion, it's his own fault, because it's up to the victims of racist abuse to make sure they aren't racially abused. Yuk.
