  1. Discarding Miller and Maric are two decisions we DID get right !
  2. Quite agree , he is a know-all with an irritating " whiney " voice His idea of racecalling is to scream in top gear all the way through. Although he has a wide sporting knowledge i was surprised that he knew nothing about the switch of athletics to Albert Park from Olympic Park when the subject was raised by a listener during his regular monday appearance on John Faines's morning show on 774.
  3. Just installed . With the basic package that adds 12 sports channels you get the low-tech , non HD set- top- box so the resolution was only average. The Channel 9 picture via Foxtel for the cricket final wasn't a patch on the free-to-air. Though i'm not prepared to upgrade , i'm reasonably content to relax and enjoy the many footy options and a bonus is not necessarily having to visit friends, relatives and pubs for our "minor" interstate games .
  4. $100 to install and $50 per month doesn't seem too bad, though i have to keep reminding myself it's only about $1.60 a day ! Every game live plus no ad breaks siren to siren is appealing .
  5. Having just taken up the offer , i'm curious if anyone has some inside info as to its worth to the club. Foxtel contributes $50- per head to the club for each new subscriber . Numbers anyone ?
  6. Just LOVED "The Age" headline to this story ; "WINDY DILLS " ! Then again , didn't WE send our players down to Geelong recently THE NIGHT BEFORE THE MATCH ?!!
  7. Whilst the late Trevor Barker frequently took spectacularly high- flying marks , he played for most of his career with sub standard St Kilda sides , so to be honest , i don't think he regularly " influenced game results".
  8. Neeld on AW now !! Says it is minor.......just a few weeks missing !
  9. Just look on the bright side........how much worse would a torn knee ligament be ? Think of a certain no. 5 !
  10. I thought the genial Matt Burgin was an excellent interviewer. I fear our loveable Robbo will lay on the platitiudes and bulltish big time.
  11. Stranger things DID happen in the old days. Believe it or not , but brothers and rival coaches , Norm and Len Smith , actually shared a bench seat for the 1960 Second Semi Final Melb. v Fitzroy !
  12. Does anybody know if we are eventually taking over the Pies existing corner of Gosch's Paddock when they move to the thieved " McGuire-Brumby" Oval ( formerly Olympic Park ) ?
  13. Some have short memories. He left us for the Saints, only played a handful of poor games for them save a blinder against us( including the match winning goal ).To rub it in, he celebrated by giving the Members "the bird". Shortly after, HE RETIRED !
  14. If anybody needed any reminding that we "belonged" to the MCC back then, how about the fact that of the 14 strong Committee , only TWO represented MFC members!
  15. What an emotional day for all of us there that day. Wall-to-wall Dees supporters in the outer.....atmosphere electric. After the game at Charlie Sutton's nearby pub , Footscray supporters were actually shaking our hands in recognition of our achievement in making "the five" !
  16. Love 'em both.....I feel a bit emotional...... one a lifetime Demon, the other, Mister Loyalty !

    AGM

Always a great night. The formalities these days are quickly disposed of and then it takes the form of a fully fledged info night . It seems it is Demonlander protocol not to blow your cover to anybody save family and close friends when being introduced to people . I used to say " i' m Ian but you may know me as Dee-eee ". This is a guaranteed conversation stopper !
  18. I'm sorry , as a fanatical supporter ( not necessarily compatible with rational ) I feel a bit crook every time there is a fresh $culls post .i reserve the right to have contempt for the bloke. I always remember when the then very cocky young Nathan Buckley departed Brisbane " to play Finals football" i thought "gee i hope this comes back to bite you on the posterior" !
  19. Thanks for the facts...........I reckon he was also named on the Seniors bench an amazing number of times and in the 70's that really meant you were not quite up to it.
  20. I'm shocked ! They could not be more different looking. Chris had Brad Pitt looks whilst Wilbur............er well ! I actually remember an entertaining Reserves game with a rather spiteful two man feud involving Chris and Collingwood's Peter Eakins.
  21. Ossie was my nightmare player. In the 70's we always lifted against the superior Pies and ALWAYS lost tragically ! The number 7 would often feature in the frantic last minutes with a missed spoil , dropped mark or missed "sitter" . Similar to Juice , he seemed to be around forever. I'm guessing he played just as many games in the Twos. Anybody know ?
  22. Beware though , MCC attendants are on constant alert for "offensive" signs to confiscate. I suspect any of ours which feature $cully won't last !
  23. Sorting a stack of old "DEMON" magazines into date order the other day, i came across the August 1997 edition whose coverboy was a shirtless Todd Viney holding the newly born Max, younger brother of Jack. He must turn 15 this year so it may not be premature to inquire whether the kid shows any ability ?
  24. I'm not that savvy........... but where you see the three thumbnails on the MFC site under the DEE TV screen just hit the arrow and it's the very next one to slide across.
  25. A bit surprised that the highlights package on the official website for mature- age Rookie, James Magner, consists of little else than perfectly executed sling tackles ( Trenners to note ? ). Obviously one tough unit, but can he play ?
