  1. Yep, he definitely paid the second 50m for abuse. Rutten even mentioned it in his presser.
  2. 6 May 5 Brayshaw 4 Petracca 3 Lever 2 Salem 1 Harmes
  3. I know it doesn't mean much but I was mucking around with ladder predictor and the results were interesting. I have us going 4-1 in the next 5 matches then somehow missing the top 4. If I give us wins in all of the 'should win' games and then losses against our top four competitors (plus an away loss to WCE), we finish fifth. I wasn't picking our results as I thought they'd play out, but was trying to see what an average finish to the season would look like. It's certainly possible, if not probable, that we finish outside the top 4.
  4. The Bombers are my 18th favourite AFL team and I'd hand back a couple wins for this one. That said, there's pretty much nothing there that I disagree with.
  5. Yep. This is why I referenced hitting the cap in a year or two. I wasn't sure if his two-year extension finished in 2022 or 2023. Thanks for clarifying.
  6. I think these are pretty fair assumptions and there very well may be room for a decent player but having a bit of wiggle room is also important. We're going to have Oliver's contract to sort soon (which will likely be something similar to Petracca), then Rivers, Jackson, and Pickett will make significantly more than they do now. I'm confident the club knows what it's doing but going after the big fish year after year could land us in Collingwood's situation. That said, I'd also love to add Maynard.
  7. These type of discussions are pointless but amusing. Here's how it goes: An article is released suggesting we go after some role-players, because we're about to hit the cap in a year or two. Supporter base dismisses suggestions because they'd rather just sign the best available players. Here's a realistic challenge - name some upcoming free agents that would be useful but aren't going to cost 600k+. It's the moves that lift the quality of our bottom 6-10 players without losing any top talent, that will make the biggest difference. For the most part, anything that happens at the top end is going to require us to lose significant talent to facilitate the move.
  8. As long as they don't get obliterated in the middle, the Cats should win. That forward line is sublime. I have a feeling that Geelong will be very tough to beat from here on in. A very well-drilled side that has found its feet as the season has gone on. The Bulldogs are good but have all of their eggs in the midfield basket, which makes them vulnerable.
  9. Weid will be out after the bye. He's cleary unfit and is relying on being able to win contests when the ball is kicked on his head, which he does at VFL level against guys whose fitness levels are closer to his own. Where I probably differ from many here is that I don't think his career is in jeopardy at all. He's one good, injury-free pre season away from being the player we need and want in the forward half. I also hope that the match committee are open to playing neither of Brown or Weid, if their form doesn't warrant selection. Neither has played a good game to this point and we have showed that we are more than capable of winning without them.
  10. 6 Jackson (played exceptionally well) 5 Jordon (this guy's consistency is unbelievable - an absolute revelation) 4 Salem 3 Petracca (had some poor moments but was ok overall) 2 Gawn (solid second half) 1 Harmes
  11. Spot on. Happens far too often on this site (and probably most football forums, to be fair).
  12. It was just a poor effort, today. I can live with skill errors but our effort around the ball was poor. To those saying that teams are starting to work us out, I don't think that's it at all. If you aren't putting significant pressure on the ball, then even the best defences will be picked apart. Our system stacks up - but only if our effort is there. In fact, I would argue our system is the reason we didn't lose by 10 goals.
  13. I think it's completely rational to at least make a basic estimate of our TPP position before discussing what we're going to do in the trade period and you didn't challenge or dispute the numbers that @rpfc put up. Instead, you decided to call him 'amateur' and 'not credible'. That's playing the man and not the ball. 58er, you've made many good contributions to Demonland. This wasn't one of them.
  14. @rpfc had a crack at throwing some quick numbers together, to try and give the discussion a bit of foundation. Your comment was poor and serves little purpose. If you have better numbers to work from, put them up.
  15. Usually, you just persist with ruckman and we do need to have a spare, but I think the draft will decide Bradtke's fate. If we end up with Mac Andrew, it's hard to see a project player like Bradtke staying on.
  16. Jetta and Jones are certainties. Would be great if we could get Nietzsche to a debut but admit, this one is likely. Hore is great depth but given we just recruited a 19-year-old interceptor, he's probably out. I hope we hang on to Bedford. I think he has a combination of attributes that very few AFL players have. His acceleration over the first 10 metres with ball in hand is as good as anyone in the game, then you add to that his great tank and you have the potential for something pretty great. His form in the VFL would warrant a call up to any AFL side except the 2021 Demons. I think Lockhart stays - not for any reason other than, l sense that the coaches love him. That said, there's a few vying for that small back position and Jake Bowey might have gone past him, so who knows.
  17. I'd take Buckley in any role, in a heartbeat.
  18. He looked bloody sore running around at training on one the AFL website vids, but there's a lot of time for him to come good.
  19. I like how he spoke of Harris Andrew's lack of influence and putting that down to some of the work Weid was doing. Edit: Just looked at Harris Andrew's stats - he took 14 marks and had a fair bit of the ball. Make of that what you will.
  20. Genuine question, what experience brings you to think about academia in this way? I generally find that people who have spoken with academics and see how studies/experiments are undertaken and scrutinised, don't have this perspective.
  21. I think Viney is the missing ingredient for us. He's the one who can give us the consistency we need on clearance to get the game played in our half more often. We've been launching from the back half really well but I don't think that's the way our game plan is intended. Teams have often got a hold of us on centre clearances which has meant we've had to play a different style. The Bulldogs have Libba driving that clearance work and Viney can be that player for us. I can see Viney being the difference between us having solid wins and really putting teams to the sword.
  22. A little off-topic but this post reminded of the kick by Salem on the weekend, moments before Sparrow kicked his long goal. He was trapped at half back, looked up saw nothing but Lions jumpers but had nowhere else to go, so absolutely skied the ball giving us a chance to get numbers to the contest. We won it pushed forward and eventually scored. I thought it showed incredible IQ, but also humility - you don't have to aim for perfection. Sometimes a horrible looking kick can be the right kick.
  23. It's not conclusive that he hits him high and the force is minimal. That said, Sparrow's is closer to a week than Zorko's. Yes, he hit TMac with an elbow but the force was almost negligible. Both would have to be rubbed out on intention not impact, which is unlikely.
