2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Dockett 32 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very nice size and amongst Allies best against WA. A lot of talent in that Allies side it would seem. Tassie boys and Qld academy boys for starters. ‘Young Connor might have appeal. -
Agree. They had Rohan, we had a forward line that underperformed, we’re not dangerous and most of them gave us nothing on the scoreboard.
-
He’s a genuine midfield forward and we are deficient in both areas at the moment.
-
So what we have in the way of key forwards are BB and JMac who are not playing , injury prone and contracted for another year. Why? Think we might have got that wrong. Smith who is not very good and Jefferson shaping as a bust. Leaves us with pretty much only JVR , good potential , Petty and Fritta to go with. Hope these long term contracts don’t haunt us. Think we have to turn over a few rocks, or shake something loose with our draft picks to sort this out.

Was well held. No goals, not in best players, dudnt get a lot of it, underwhelming. Not really a good performance, but it’s only one game l suppose. The Adelaide clubs with the first crack at their kids should be reasonably happy.
-
What were the moves to counter the very dislikable Stewart and Rohan? Their direct opponents should play at Casey next week. Nothing exciting re our small forward set up last night.
-
Suspect a couple of clubs interested
-
JVR is our junior big key forward with 1/2 fox games , so who is our senior big key forward scaring the life out of opposition backs? Current set up is terrible. Dreaming about Tommy Mac and Ben Brown coming good is high risk.
-
Please explain football dept.
-
Who knows, but you have to raise the flag. We missed Sparrow in this regard and at the contest.
-
All clubs lose good players. Challenge is to see if we are a good footy club or not.
-
We don’t have a Rozee or Horne Francis type. Whoever was on Butters to the seconds please. 41 possessions? What were the coaches doing?
-
A little danger feeling on this. We should have a decent win on ladder positions, but they were very physical and served it up to us at Metricon last year.
-
Seems we now have our nice open ended fluffy precedent that should make things clearer for everybody. That’s until it involves a power club, untouchable player or it’s during the finals or some other flimsy yet to be introduced defence. We have taken it on the chin, so our predicament is over. So we can sit back and watch the predictable one week low profile penalties for certain entities and individuals and heavy handed AFL chest beating ‘message senders’ to be absolutely frightened by. No matter that the perpetrators of two unconscious players with concussion got one week. One of the perpetrators with a rap sheet as long as your arm who the media are ship frightened to dal with properly. What a farce.

Tomlinson a pretty good effort. Generally more than reliable when asked to play a role down back. The Bulldogs tall forward line looked dangerous on paper pre game.
-
Agree DC . Cozzy didn’t kill anyone , apologised immediately,no injury sustained at all. It was silly for sure ,but some on here want the death penalty or link to concussion matters. A week tops
-
I hope we are trying to find a big strong, brave, strong marking CHF like say J Brown , Carey or N. Riewoldt. Jefferson doesn’t strike me as that type at all.
-
Well we will be able to get a good look at for 12 months and then decide. We now know, people of that vintage with high credentials ( once in a generation player, rising star even) are worth two first rounders and a second .
-
Until they make it 4 year minimum contract and address this business of some prospective draftees advising clubs they won’t leave their states, it’s a scam for the top clubs. Hawthorn and Geelong have made it their speciality. St.Kilda will grab King next year.
-
I think a few on here have tended to forget how good our list is already, if completely fit. Throw in Grundy AA , JVR , and maybe Howes for next season , pus our draft picks on top of that and it seems we are chugging along ok. Just like us to get on the front foot with Kozzie and his management for an early recommitment decision. Recurrence of the fingernail biting all year and subsequent recent Fremantle trade to be avoided next season. Why not time bound decision? If nothing by say QB ,past precedent probably suggests departure imminent. If so we could really gather a few first rounders for 2023 to shake the trading season up a bit and ensure a long term succession plan.
-
Pinch hitter with presumably salary benefits if it’s a Tomlinson swap. Giant no deal if there is a salary impost back to Bulldogs.
-
Taranto 3 yo , no rising star , smaller pay packet. Not comparable at all.
-
Reckon you’re correct. 4 year min perhaps.

Might need to keep the adoption of all children in Australia and the relevant numbers , for another day. l reckon there could be another polarising issue at hand on that one. Same too, of the Queen personally signing an Australian Act of Parliament in lieu of the normal Governor General precedent. Suffice to say, l would personally hope and like to believe that she would have done so in this instance maybe symbolically and with the best of intentions . Also once approved by Parliament, legislation is normally / never knocked back or retracted as far as l know.
