Key Defensive Pillars
Sorry cannot let these comments go unchallenged: 'But in my defence, he was playing to a level that was far from AFL level last year. I stand by that observation. I understand the club sacrificed team performance by playing him when he was clearly not ready.' 'Oscar was therefor gifted games with an eye for the long term. I didn’t agree with it because it contributed to our poor performances defensively.' 'I do wonder why we didn’t opt for a stop gap key defender when there were plenty out there and let Oscar develop at VFL last year.' All three comments are embarrassing rubbish. Playing at a level far from AFL level last year? Ridiculous (and really a repetition of the silly assertion he was not AFL standard). Why do you think an AFL club with professional coaching and recruiting teams didn't recruit 'a stop gap key defender when there were plenty out there'? Because they obviously decided they didn't need to as they had complete confidence in Oscar. I repeat. They are paid professionals whose job is to make such assessments. And you wonder why they didn't agree with your assessment? I don't. I could see what they could see. I pointed it out to you on numerous occasions. I You made the silly assertion last year that chasing Lever was evidence of the weakness of Oscar. Baloney. It is telling they didn't go after another key back last trad period, particularly given they decised to Tmac was going to be a full time forward. They didn't need to. They had Oscar. One really good KPD is enough. Sacrificed team performance when he clearly was not ready? In a team pushing for finals? Right. Such was the confidence they had in Oscar last year they released his brother to go forward. Gifted games? You have to be joking. Maybe in 2016 they got some games into him for experience. Like they did last year witht Weeds. The difference is that once it was obvious Weed wasn't ready they sent him back to the VFL. Yet they kept Oscar in the side. Go figure. But games for the sake of experience last year no way. So, so silly to suggest that. Again. We were pushing for finals. As if a professional football club does that, particularly one playing in such a critical position. STMJ you are the one who said you do scouting for AFL clubs. If that is actually true then in all honesty i am incredulous you could make such comments. In fact repeat such comment after making them for the last 3 years. An AFL football team selects a player as 20 year and he plays 45 of the next 47 odd games possible games (and only getting dropped once), in one of most demanding positions in the game, and you think he is not AFL standard until like magic he suddenly is this year. Fair dinkum you have to be trolling (and playing the long game at that). I said before the start of this season that i was hoping to not have to read rubbish like these comments when the inevitable happened and Oscar went up a level and his ability becasme obvious even to the most trenchant critics. But i knew that i would. And now i have. To be frank, suggestions he didn't earn his games last year and the 'club sacrificed team performance by playing him when he was clearly not ready' are plain insulting to Oscar, not to mention patently wrong, and i cannot stand fans insulting their own players. And to be 100% clear not once have i ever said Oscar will be star. Just that he will be a strong AFL player who all things being equal will be a 200+ game player for the dees. The most extravagant i have been is that he will be better than his brother. Which i stand by (and heard second hand last year that some at the club firmly believe that too). You have been wrong all along with Oscar STMJ, despite what you believe. Facts are facts. Perhaps you might consider showing some humility and acknowledging you got it wrong rather than damning the young fella with faint praise and weasel words.

I have been washing Oscar's since he first joined the club.

A Day at the Races
Happy with picking the place horse, particularly in a 200 metre race. That distance sorts the wheat from the chaff a bit and unlike in 1600 metre races don't get those pesky 1400 metre horses that get a good run and snag a place. Just had a quick look at the filed. Pretty strong.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 9
I think there is bit of #tyson myths brewing. Doesn't have the strength to escape the inside?. Phoeey. His strength is his major asset and why he so often is able to extract the ball from congestion. Sure he gets pinged for holding a few times but one it is often because he gets the ball in traffic and two in reality it doesn't happen that often. I think tbe issue for him is two fold. His hands, and perhaps decision making, can somtimes be a little slow. The second is a technique thing. He often holds the ball away from the body and the ball gets jarred loose with contact. This means he sometimes gets pinged where he had no prior where others whohold onto the ball don't. I have said he is a chance to go out for viney based on the like for like principle and others like anb and harmes having had good games against the suns. But if he doesn't that would be a pretty clear statement by goody about how he rates tyson.

Goal Kicking reliability on SEN
Not a big enough sample size.
-
Jayden Hunt
Maybe. But he would still need to improve his kicking. Small forwarda have to take their chances. One advantage of him playing forward is he would have more opportunities to get out the back of oppos press and have space to run forward into.
-
Goal Kicking reliability on SEN
Remarkable how accurate Tmac is kicking for goal given his field kicking is often so poor. I have a theory why he misses so many targets. I reckon he struggles with depth, not accuracy. His kicks are often too short or long. In front of goals he only has to worry about accuracy and always kicks through the ball well. In recent times only jack watts could come close to matching tmac for accuracy.
-
Jayden Hunt
Agree. Another issue for him is that the high press the dees employ means less opportunity for him to use his key attribute - his pace and run - as there is less space. He needs to adapt and im sure he will. Smart kid and the club is now terrific at player development.

Demons on Masterchef (16/5/18)
Yeh too right. The last thing our sponsers and club want is exposure to a national audience on the highest rating show on TV. Fools. PJ is really losing his touch.

Post Match Discussion - Round 8
Fan forum confusinitis. My fault. Apologies. I was referring to Casey in my post. Not the MFC. I was being a bit of a smart arse. But on serious note i 100% agree with you. We are building some good depth and i think it is both very exciting and worth a lot of enthusiasm. Look at the discussion about Tyson possibly going out for Viney. No chance of that being a possibility in previous seasons. I like that we have some good depth in most positions - the one concerning exception being the ruck , though Flip looks a prospect and King can get there i hope. Bets of all we finally have some serious pressure coming from the twos. Smith is pushing hard for selection, Stretch played well, Garlett must be close and players like Bugg, Frost and Wagner are all pushing hard for selection. Very positive signs.

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - Round 6
How was the weed's ruck craft (sounds cool and very 2018) at Casey drunkn? Smith might come in for Spargo maybe (with Viney coming in for Tyson_ - would make for a formidable forward line, grunt wise. Do you think Jeffy did enough to come back into the seniors?

Casey Demons v Box Hill Hawks - Round 6
And against the Box Hill hawks who have used the Hawthorn way of playing as a template for years. it has been great for Box Hill and hawthorn

Changes v The Blues
No a i think a Reich vein of form is more along the lines of starting strongly and rolling a couple of easy beats, biting off more than you can chew against a side with a huge numerical advantage, making some major Worsfold like strategy errors (really should have played Engalnd at home early in the season) before ultimately bombing out and failing to make the finals
-
Changes v The Blues
Nailed it. Agree with all of the above. Good point about big bodies playing wing. Tyson really is a roving mid who extracts the ball from congestion and the many stoppages we engineer (an important part of our strategy ie if not option to cross or find a free man, go long down the line and force a throw in or ball up and then let Max loose). Can't drop either Harmes (his best game for the MFC) or ANB after their games and so a like for like means Dom is the obvious choice, particularly because as you say Jeffy is good chance to replace Spargo (and only because Garlett's best is too good to not play seniors - though he is on notice). Tough on Spargo but great experience for Spargo and he will be better for it. And he'll be back. Fritsch actually spent some time in the middle on Saturday, which was surprising. Good move because he is already close to our best kick and has great evasive tricks. And though not big he is no kid.

Round 8 Non MFC games
I assume by gear they are referring to the club's performance enhancing drugs and related paraphernalia (needles, swabs etc etc). I would too. It's clearly not working Or perhaps gear is more old schools and just refers to some of Bombers products. If that is the case i wouldn't be burning it if i was them. They are going to need some mood enhancers this season.

Post Match Discussion - Round 8
I matched dot points with the number of involvements weed had.. Disposals are so 2017. If only i had stats pro to assist me defend oscar as opposed to just my own observations and football knowledge. I fear though the weed will be too easy to defend. I might have to take a more challenging case. I was thinking Dom.

Post Match Discussion - Round 8
So i watched the weeds involvements in AFl pro. Some observations: it didn't take as long as watching Oliver's involvements he has got pretty blody big and once he fill out will be a seriously big unit - long arms for a big fella he is really good beneath his knees by no means did he dominate when he rucked but he he actually looks a pretty natural ruck man, won a couple of tap outs that resulted in clearances and halved a handful, with one resulting in Jessie's banana goal his handball to Spargo was really smart, assessed his options and made the right call he competes hard in the air and on the ground and laid a couple of solid tackles looks very focused on 'playing his role' and following team first rules - but i would love him to be a bit more aggressive and go for a shot on goals occasionally instead of always looking for the pass as has been noted covers a lot of ground, which isn't really picked up in the video of his involvements other than where on the ground those involvements occur (he must have really worked hard on his fitness over summer as he was never a stand out athlete in the way Hogan always was) on our first or second entry he was close to clunking a huge pack mark - didn't but smashed the pack and the ball hit the ground. Attacking the ball in the air was his strength coming into AFL and that seemed to drop off a bit last year. Looks to be back again and he will soon be regularly clunking big marks i reckon did a fair bit of ruck work n the last quarter, giving Maxy a big chop out I get 6 possessions is not huge (though he had many more involvements) but i agree with the view that he is playing an important role from a structural perspective. Goodwin has copped a bit of heat on Dl but playing four super mobile talls rotating though the forward line, wind up the ground and on ball is unique and represents a real strategic point of difference to other clubs. I have no doubt Goody has penciled Weed in for this role for some time hence him rucking at Casy from the get go this year. Can't see him being dropped now. And not because he wants to get game time into Weed (although this is obviously a bonus). But because Weed is important to this strategy and his selection will help us win more games. Like with Omac last year it is ridiculous to think Goody would pick players he didn't think could help us win just to get games into them when we are a team pushing for finals.

Post Match Discussion - Round 8
That is completely untrue. Beating sides we should beat is huge and far from indicating 'we've done nothing yet' shows a team progressing. We have now won 3 on the trot (and i have no doubt will make that four next weekend). One of those win was the highest score of the season so far. And i for one rate the Roos pretty highly and we gave them a touch up. Yes we should have won those game but as all on Demonland know these are exactly the sort of the games that in the last decade we have been notorious for losing. Which is why footy commemorators make comments like they can't 'trust us' because we yo yo. It is why we missed the finals last year. The best teams win the games they should. Thus far this season we are winning the games we should. So we are getting better and that is keeping those wins in perspective. So it is plain silly to say 'we have done nothing yet' Are we a top 4 chance? i actually think we are. But we are a ways off the the tigers. But so is every other team. And the hawks? I really believe we are better than them, despite the loss. Our issue against the very best teams (and i rate the tigers, Crows and Swans as the best - in that order) is that they will match us for contested ball and are way more skilled across the board.
