PODCAST: Troy Chaplin Interview
Thanks in anticipation for yet another insightful podcast beloved by Demon fanatics. Aside from the obvious question re Petty's best role, can you please ask where (and when) he sees Disco fitting into the team? He has had one game in 12 months despite being regularly amongst Casey's better players. 3rd tall or a bigger flanker? Too much the Lever role? Can we retain him if he doesn't get game time? Also how is skinny young Adams progressing? Can he see him getting a game in 2024 or will he need a full two year apprenticeship? I understand that patience is needed for these young tall KPPs in particular. PS a million congratulations showing patience and persistence with Judd McVee who looks an absolute ripper. He seemed to debut with exquisite timing. My first real viewing of him was v Martin in the practice game and he has come along in leaps and bounds since. A real coup in giving him that challenge.

Best 44 at the half way mark?
Do you really believe that, or is he just not quite reaching Goody's KPIs for what he is being asked to do?

Best 44 at the half way mark?
Pretty much agree, though I think last week showed the value of a third tall defender, freeing Lever up to play his best role. Yes, "even just" Tomlinson, who in my view played his role very well.

JvR is the Round 12 Rising Star …
Half a season to go but at this stage I teams to agree - Judd has gone very nicely under the radar yet exudes confidence with ball in hand. Clean disposal and great decision maker with spatial awareness. That said, if mid / forward connection improves JVR could snag a few big bags and steal the limelight. Either way JT has unearthed a couple of rippers, again.

Born 16/04/2003 - amazing foresight by our recruiting team in signing up a 2 year old.

I saw young Ox - uncanny resemblance in his movement and his swaggering body language. Very disciplined set shot actin - maybe he could join Mr Williams in a workshop.

Not only kids either. Some seniors in particular also find this time way too late. Even watching “neutral games” on TV unless it is close or high standard, I may just turn off at half time. Surely even the TV execs who seem to run AFL scheduling will be aware of this? And this is all the worse with the regular “train replaced by busses” we seem to get all the time.

Well stated. Tommo did his job in the team defence. Any Age journalist would be on the left, of course. McVee May eventually do some midfield time but he is developing into one of our most relatable defenders, in a well oiled team defence. Especially with Bowey missing next round the defence needs to remain as settled as possible. Or that famous unsinkable ship whose watertight partitions were incomplete. Cripps - still carrying an elbow / forearm injury from late 2022?

Unfortunately Bowey will miss a week (or two) with concussion. Maybe Hibbo (or Disco if Hibbo doesn't get up). Harmes will be offered 2-3 for what a couple of Cats were not even cited. Oliver back according to coach. Otherwise probably no change. Goody said that Smith provided a point of difference so will probably stay (unless BB has a pearler at Casey).

Sure McKay had 9 marks and 3 goals but several of his marks were unstoppable and Tomlinson's presence allowed the back half talls to work as a unit - in particular Lever was back towards his intercepting best. JVR continues to impress. McVee, Salem, Rivers and Bowey until injured are such a cohesive unit - never worry when they have the ball.
