Great observations and opinion, onion. We have been doing what we need to to win, and not much more. Shortened preseason, and anticipating a long season, there is no point in exhausting our players with 100 point wins, at this stage. Look at 2021 - didn't really crush anyone (except GC$) until the prelim and GF. Every case is different, but agree that if not 100% then don't play. Same with 'flu. If we needed a pure ruck replacement then Majak would have got the nod. I doubt if JVR will be rushed into debut (unlike Watts and many others of that era). He will have been told that I am sure. As I mentioned above, we are have been "doing enough" and pacing for a long season.

Salem is our best deliverer out of defence, by a mile, and also his footy smarts and game awareness is just so pivotal - can't come back soon enough into this role. Rivers, maybe, and Bowey are at some stage options for a wing / midfield role, but let that be worked on off season.

Maybe, had Weeds been a more "assertive" or confident sort of character, he would have called for Tom to leave it? It was really up to him, with a wider view of the whole situation, to make such a call.
