I must say IMO it was Uncle James' best game ever.
-
The post of the century. I would love him on radio - on a station that I never listen to.
-
....which has been very rarely I think the Bulldogs player must have as they piled up on top go him. Maybe we should be asking, being very technical, should it have been 50? (As it turns out that would have spoiled the narrative for the night - just a bit). But back to Jake - an unbelievably mature thinker for one so young.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

Their silver lining to a very dark cloud, not ours.😅 -
It just shows never write anyone off after a “less than spectacular” debut. Quite a few here wanted him delisted if not straight after his debut at the season’s end. Another example of reward for persistence and effort, now a hallmark of this magnificent club culture.

The word tragic is far overused but so totally appropriate here. And just imagine what he could have been under the current coaching and development regime of support and self belief. Tracc, Clarrie, Frittata - any of these and more.
-
Fritz skippering a U boat? Another of out talented players to make huge progress in 2021, our Premiership year. Kudos not only to the individual but to all those who helped guide, develop and coach him to these great heights and engendered self belief.

Best Player to wear #31 since Ron Barassi.
monoccular replied to Fritta and Turner's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember Groom arriving as a great savior but never really delivered. Similarly Templeton. Wheatley as has been said above could have become a very good player in a decently run club and most reminds me of Fritatta of all the 31s. But Fritatta is definitely the most succesful #31 since RDB. -
2021 Player Reviews #30 Alex Neal-Bullen
monoccular replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
What a fine example of reward for persistence and hard work is our ANBPP. He has come along from being a bits and pieces filler to a vital part of the forward cogwheel. Thanks so much ANB for sticking to it when quite a few here wanted you gone. -
SWYL he slipped under my radar a bit too, though I th8nk it was v EssUndone that he pinged another vital long goal too. Very tough, smart thinker, great boot. How unbelievably amazing would that be. He has many of the attributes. Maybe a Petraviney or a Vintracca?

Tedious, like the last minute of Q3 GF 2021? 😮😮😮🙄🙄❤️💙❤️💙

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs

He may be a rescue dog person, but it doesn't look like he had rescued any Bulldogs at that stage. Probably a hell of a lot more needing rescue now. -
13 kg in six months - sounds like me in lockdown 🤭 As I recall there was a Cardinal Sinn in the Phillipines a while ago

True. 1. IF we had gone down by under 5 points Max’s non reviewed goal would have been a massive talking point. Wasn’t it introduced (in the AFL’s typical knee jerk reaction) exactly for that reason, “to avoid a GF being decided by a dubious goal call”? 3. agree 100% - blatant inconsistency.

2021 Player Reviews: #22 Aaron Vandenberg
monoccular replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sadly his body let him down far too often whilst his spirit never did. -
Alternatively we could play the Cats and stuff their confidence early in the season. As our home game though. I don’t think we have had a hole game v these druggies since before they were caught out.
-
A great acquisition and the leader of the defence. Cool, calm, collected, though that could be said of those beside him in out great defensive unit including Salem, Bowey, May, Rivers in particular.
-
No. I didn’t see that. Was still engrossed with AFL GF matters - actually still am. ❤️💙 But it could form a serious part of our pitch the slightly enlarge the ground, and additionally improve climate resilience…
-
Max - an what an appropriate name - has become the most inspiring captain in the competition. And he and Cool Hand Luke seem to be learning skills and tricks from one another. The best combination since Strawbs and Jimmy - even better because they both have ground skills and smarts. Both become extra mids after the ruck contest.
-
You must be too young to remember Dixon, Adams, Keneally 👹

All above observations noted. It will be hard to break into a Premiership team that has Spargo and Pickett going so well AND an absolute disaster of a feeder competition even without Covid. What was it, 21 teams (so multiple byes) of very variable qualities, made up of many part time footballers who have real jobs yet are expected to travel interstate for days on end. We need to restore the V as in Victorian FL (with an even number of teams so no byes) and let the other states organise their own state competitions.

Are the current trees non- indigenous elms? If so I would have thought that the woke Melbourne City Council and all the local Greenies would support their removal and replacement with local indigenous ones, which could be placed around the expanded oval.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

Only once a week?? Too easily satisfied. -
No way … their ground is pint sized.
