I guess one may get away with one or two slightly underdone stars in a final, but 6 is a hiding to nothing. In retrospect, as many have already said and easy to say, "resting / managing" some of these "niggles" to our stars mid season may have not only won us a few more games, but also given exposure and assessment at top level to those on the margins (eg JVR, who may have needed to step in and step up in the finals.

I understand that “game day experience” may need to be enhanced at NFL and NBL with extraneous sound effects and shouted commentary, but Australian Rules Football is exciting in its own nature and doesn’t need this. Dimitriou and Gil seem to have an obsession with all things American. Gawd, I still remember brief visions of that absurd preseason charade they tried a decade or so ago with the flares and loud “music” and other “special effects” - I endured a few minutes of it once when the TV remote had an unexpected problem delaying my finding something else to watch. PS do we still have to endure the “air raid siren” at EssUndone home games when they kick a goal? Even more incentive for our defenders to keep them goalless.

Absolute rubbish. If Gil is trying to alienate fans than by all means blare music, have loud PA trivia during breaks and promote betting advertising, and political and pseudo political causes …. and of course an odd number of teams in the competition would be the final nail in the coffin. How about just playing footy and let the crowd make the noise as appropriate.

Congratulations Benny. The intrusiveness of the Sportsbet advertisements with that bogan voice and obese bodies is a genuine turn off, as is Nathan Brown updating the odds (then adding "gamble responsibly" 😀). If listening to radio I often change stations when I hear that voice, even when not listening to sport.

I hope what they really mean is that we can get by without him especially for a game or two early in the year - Rivers, Sparrow in particular will be keen to step up - but he is an absolute essential at the business end of the season NB finals.

And don’t forget Alen Jakovic the only player ever suspended for wrestling.

Preseason threads / posts are usually rife with speculation varying from super optimistic to super pessimistic. But as has been said before - would you prefer to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong, or a pessimist who is always right??
