100% this. For years. Jones gets pinged for lying on the ball, they score a quick goal - and game over. Happened for years, last time 2 weeks ago... Sigh See you on the train on the way in, folks

Lloyd goes 'whack' - Melbourne a club in search of a heart

He is 100% correct. It's the <duration> of the disaster - not about losing a few games at the start of 2016. -
MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - Round 3, 2016
frankie_d replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is all about trust. PJ was right: you have to earn trust - this mob have just blown it again. An earlier posted made a comparison to domestic violence - returning to abusive partners. Not the best choice of analogy and was called out for it. But there's the kernel of truth - MFC supporters have been let down more times than we can remember over the last 10 years... and we are repeatedly told that "we're on the right track". The rusted on supporters, like us, keep on turning up. If we win a game we were expected to lose (Geelong last year), we're happy, but don't believe anything has really changed - because not too long after, we'll lose games we ought to win - Carlton, St. Kilda, Essendon. I don't trust our team; I'm pleased when we win, and wear the scarf home - I'm resigned when we lose, and still wear the scarf. Today, we'll lose, and I'll feel $hitty and angry. I'll have platitudes thrust at me from all sides (I hate to think how tired they'll be after THREE weeks - the poor things). And I'll turn up next week, perhaps to be teased again? -
That's where the scarf waving started. You know, I wish we had appointed Sheedy.

James Kelly reckons we didn't come to play I hate that phrase, but I think I know what he means. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/james-kelly-sensed-melbourne-demons-were-off-their-game-in-essendon-win-20160404-gnyh60.html

I agree, but the difficulty is then do you apply the same standard to Watts - 0 (None, doughnuts) tackles? Not alone, and by no means should he be the whipping boy for the disaster, but It's difficult to justify keeping players in with low possessions, or low tackles. He wasn't alone - well, he was, actually. Kent, VDB, TomMc, Bradshaw and Hogan had 1. It makes for depressing reading. For interest, the page http://www.afl.com.au/stats allows you to look at team stats for each team for each round

Jack Viney's take on social media

This. They often started a four man back line with the two hbf pushed up to side of the centre square. Those two would then rush in and outnumber us at the bounce. We got smashed in there. If we did possession, and tried to llink up a chain of handballs out laterally, there was no space and enormous pressure. Our players didn't know how to respond at the set up... Lots of pointing. I'm no expert, but it was as clear as the extra man behind the ball debacle last year Roos is getting a very easy run here, and needs to be asked tough questions.

As the sainted Peter Jackson said "the club has lost the trust of its members". He's right, and must be tearing his hair out.

Hogan not starting this quarter?

Hogan has a really dodgy balldrop.. He's out here very early taking shots. If he kicks 5, then I couldn't give a fat rat's about his ball drop!

I hate seeing the G in their colours. I hate the thought that we might not respond if they try thuggery. My memories of 2000 are too clear. I am old enough to have been there is 64, and we were feared. That's what I want... the MFC to be feared. And a win. Go Dees

Saturday Talking Point: Game Day 27/2/16
frankie_d replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have more good footballers. I think all our previous NQRs just didn't have enough talent/size around them. Look at Oliver - at first glance: McKenzie Mark 2. Then he goes near the ball with intent and talent and size; good things happen. -

Didn't duck at all - but still waves the arms around when tackling -

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
frankie_d replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Back to the thread... this bloke looks like a serious socks-down footballer. It's such a relief not see stick figures out there wearing the red-and-blue. Who knows how he'll go, but he's a chance -

1) Did we just get screwed by sydney? 2) Was there no way to avoid it?
