TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND SEVEN

One does miss the Oxford comma... One gets used to reading sentences with commas, semicolons, and colons in them. -
Agree 100%. I think the thing about that handball was the we mortals had a real clear view of the chaos. One moment he's in the pack, then Viney busts through and gives it to Clarry - who has seen TMac and bullets the handpass. I've looked at it dozens of times, I know the ending, but I still can believe he found TMac. Joy.

Watts and pedo doing ruck warm up... OMAC warning up with the backs

Seeing him Tracc out before the game with a bandage on his knee (I know... Bone bruising) is enough to give me palpitations.

from https://www.triplem.com.au/sport/afl/news/melbourne-release-update-on-injured-dees?station=melbourne Melbourne has confirmed ruckman Jake Spencer will miss six to seven weeks. Spencer injured his AC joint in the Anzac Day eve clash against Richmond, and will see a surgeon on Wednesday. Forward Tim Smith also has a fractured rib and a punctured lung, and will spend a few days in hospital. Melbourne's general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney confirmed the news. “Jake received a knock to his AC joint early in the game last night and was ruled out prior to half-time. He had scans today (Tuesday), which showed damage to the AC joint. He will consult a surgeon tomorrow, with the most likely option being surgery later in the week,” he told melbournefc.com.au. Mahoney said Smith will be monitored more closely. There is currently no time frame on his return. “Tim was taken to hospital at half-time during last night’s match after a knee to his ribs," he said. "Investigations have shown a fractured rib and punctured lung. He will stay in hospital over the next few days.” There is more hope for Christian Petracca though, after the Demon hurt his knee. The club is monitoring him, with the hope he will play next week. "Christian received a knock to the knee early in the match last night," Mahoney said. "He played out the rest of the match and has today been cleared of any major structural damage of the knee. He will be monitored during the week." Phew...

This. Trying to keep this in perspective... but I don't think I have enough Islay in-house to cope with a Petracca knee problem. I realise that is my fault, and reflect poor preparation for the season. I will rectify the situation this afternoon.

Back in the gloomy days, we all cried out for a contest - we drafted stick figures, we got bullied and we were sh$t. None of those things are true now - we're tough and relentless. I remember when the sainted PJ, shortly after starting to save the club, was asked if we needed a premiership coach - his answer was "No, but we need a very good one". I still that that's (obviously) true - we don't have a tradition of hardness and win-at-all-costs over the last decade - Roos was a very good coach, and toughened us up. I'm hoping like crazy that Goodwin is a "very good coach", too - talent (we've got tons) isn't enough.
-
Don't know if any injury is contributing but he is dreadfully one-sided, and teams have worked him out a bit. Just can't kick on the right at all, and that cost us a couple of times tonight.

Any news on CP5 knee and Viney knee?
-
Both Hogan and Garlett tend to run back and don't lead up (Hogan gets the ball up the ground - that's not what I'm talking about). Failure to present a target is a big deal for us inside 50
-
Salem was standing on the wrong side of him (our goal side) - the ball went over the back, and away he went. I get it that Salem (and the rest) are stuffed, but "stand goal side of your appt and block the run" isn't a complex message
-
They had Cotchin over the back at every stoppage with no Melbourne player starting goal side of him. How about that for a start? I get it that it injuries and rotations killed us,but coaching was poor at the end.
-
Mutterings of CP5 hobbling.... Any details?
-
ANB. BEND OVER AND TRY TO PICK THE BALL UP. YOU FIND YOURSELF OVER THE LINE. IF YOU KICK IT OVER THE LINE...... Never mind. ---&_-_&--_$##@@@@##@## it.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 5

It's just perfect at the G now, but the radar looks ominous for rain. I hope for the day when I can feel confident. I remember the 90s, and the early 60s (sigh). Hope it's not too far around the corner. Go Dees. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
frankie_d replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Turns out it's taken from a pinterest post. Full post: " Pro-Athlete Diabetics cannot withstand head impacts as well as those who are non-diabetic because cells in diabetics cannot use glucose well and all tend to be deficient in magnesium. This makes them more sensitive to the effects of excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate, which are released in massive amounts following a concussion. Supplemental Magnesium and a High DHA, higher-fat diet are huge to boost brain energy levels to protect against head injuries " So, until further evidence, it's bullsh$t -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

I'd love a reference to the peer reviewed study/studies that "showed" this... -
Thought Hunt was ok too
-
11 point play. Bug burns garlett, then Hannan missed and they take it coast to coast for a goal Spencer getting killed at the moment
-
Approximately 1x10^6 empty seats, and plentiful car parking. One of the kids likes Freo's song. I reckon it sucks. Go Dees

That day in 2008 when we came back from the dead against these guys. Seems like a lifetime ago...

This.

I think the Watts marking also plays out in his team mates "ignorning" him - we all know that is contested marking (even with smaller opponents) is not strong. He has plucked one or two over the years, but it's a weakness that causes his team mates to hesitate in delivery. He tried his heart out yesterday.
-
Pedo. No target up forward. we turned it around on the last 10 minutes, didn't convert possession into score.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3

Exactly my concern. I agree with you - so I hope to hell that the kid is getting really good advice. Came off with a bandage on his head.. Hasn't had a good run at it The medico's will follow procedure and they will know the literature, as it is not. But there's a view about that as we know more, we'll be even more cautious. Damn.
