Such a shame we have already played Richmond

    Such a Shame

    Not so fast SWYL.

Lets knock them out in Week 1 of the finals.

An earlier poster here talked about Ox's physical trials and addisiction which he overcame to become an advoctae for the issue. Thats courage.

Hardwick and Lynch? Hitting blokes in the back of the head or guts when unprepared - weak.

Based on the Tige's President Peggie Lynnch's comment on the ABC this week, I suspect their Board isn't impressed.

I have probably got way ahead of myself here but I'm pretty sure we are a better side than dogs. As long as the players aren't way ahead with me and have a sense of reality we can and should win the game without a ruck.

Need to shut down Naughton who can be a match winner and play a solid contested ball game and hold them to 50 - 60 points.

They can't hold any side and we are a good scoring side. Should be approx 90 - 60 scoreline. Ha, I am delusional.

An interesting stat/indictror on Fox this week was that when Naughton Kicks over 2 goals, the Dogs win 78% of the time. @ or less they mostly lose.

Am I glad we got May now.

Agree, if we lose to the Dogs but Max is 100% for the rest of the season it's still alive. Beat the Dogs but Max out for 6-8 with a PCL is less desirable IMO.

Its going to be a brave call either way but you sum up the longer term risk nicely Pollyanna.

This week's about holding the nerve and resting Max  . Esp given we have a game in hand.

Langdon was good but I certainly didnt think that good. Oliver has being awesome with his disposal the last 3 games. Now playing very clever footy. Gus has done a 360 and showing what we hoped he would. Definately found his calling in the middle. Trac going from strength to strength. Midfield is back to being rightly feared. Spargo puts in 110%.

Langdon is now consisently very good because he is using his tank to burn off opponents and becomes a sole target and/or outlet player.  It looks like he's doing it easy but its not his fault his opponentn can't keep with him.

One of my favourite players now.

I think many of us just noted his height or lack thereof and then looked for compensating attributes of agility, explosive pace, uncanny goal sense? I didn’t see these attributes last year. Not fast, couldn’t stick a tackle, not a great kick but a very reliable footy player, yes, but then where does he fit in? But this week it was 10 or so minutes of exceptional, opportunistic small forward play to snag 3 goals and set one up for Brayshaw. I admit that effort has changed my view of Spargo in that he may just have the footy IQ to make it as a small forward. Let’s hope so.

He definitely has a good footy IQ. More so than some of our experienced players, which is what I suspect has got him this far.

Spargo says his grandfather said to him - " If you're good enough , then you're tall enough"

If we make the 8 I would be surprised and happy. We are a very flakey team. We can easily drop games to any of the teams we are yet to play.

Agree. Getting carried away with the Pies win. Many top 22 players out and an excuse for a defence with Dunn getting a game. They will be fortunate to make the 8 .

The Dogs game will give a more accurate line on our form.

He was playing his role as a commentator.   The role he is paid for.   Eddie and a few others could take a leaf.

Good call.  He has a job to do and he's echoing most supporters when the team is down as with Power game. He gave plenty of credit and insight last night.

    Lay off him.

For me I thought Fritch was one of our poorest players when the contest was on, he seems to be becoming a bit of a junk time specialist. I wouldn’t say no to dropping him for Hannan.

I think both Hannan and Fritsch are in danger of losing best 22 status. Fritsch causes problems in the air for opponent but gee his finishing is ordinary.

Spargo is in for the time being and maybe ongoing and adds a great decisin maker up forward. And he can kick

I think we're going to lose comfortably. I haven't seen any evidence that we've gotten rid of our soft underbelly that played embarassing footy against port.

They have a first rate defence which i think will trouble us. Not sure at all we can post a winning score.

I get tired just watching him play. Amazing endurance, don’t think I’ve ever seen him with hands on knees.

I love his confidence to use his speed. He simply believes he can outrun anyone and just cruises past or away from an opponent.

A pleasure to watch. With the great stan alves number too.

Really. They are consistemtly bad- ask the Blues after today.  But Fritsch's lazy and smart alec open goal miss is the real problem. Weed hits the pos also doesn't help. Are they interested? Time will tell..

    Seriously

Tmac has proved he can play the game at a high level. The Weid never had until his games in 2020 , excuse me 2 games in 2018.

You didn't notice I was calling for his inclusion in round two and the following two?

TMac has proved he can compete in the Ruck, you don't  have to be Max's level just provide a good contest and let the midfield players do the rest.

And he was an adequate solution in 2017 and 2018 when Max was out. He also should have the engine to cover the ground and just compete.

    It doesn’t suprise me

It Stinks and Gill should be questioned about it. But he won’t, because no AFL Journalist will say boo aftervwhat occurred with Mitch Cleary

Spot on.  The Cleary approach of standing down a journalist despite not promulgating internally the directive, meaning Cleary needed to be a Clairvoyant, was laughable.

Gill will go on the Front Bar and play up to Mick and Sam but underneath he has issues in management style and governance.

The holding the ball shambles is another case.

These are necessarily smart guys - just able to talk the talk. Steve Hocking is a classic case.

    Best game of Clarry’s career.

    Welcome back Gus.

Jackson is going to be amazing.

Get the [censored] out of the team Langdon.

Edit: Forgot to mention May. We may not ‘win’ that trade as such but we are getting great value out of it this season. May is a gun and plays with passion. Love him!

And he's a real leader. The times he took Lockhart under his wing last night and looked out for him which was something special. We got exactly what we needed. A backline leader and gun full back.

    I don't get it, and I don't like it.

Oscar was poor last week, but we've had a settled and functioning backline since he came in. Last week we had a disgusting drop in pressure and increase in turnovers, so it's no wonder the back half performed worse than it had the previous month.

Adelaide has a relatively tall forward line (Himmelberg is 198cm, McAsey is 197cm, and Walker, Fogarty and Lynch are all 193cm). Was this the game to throw the third tall defender out and, presumably, rely on Hibberd to play on someone 7cm+ taller than him?

Or are we sending Tomlinson into defence when he hasn't been training as a key defender all year?

Or are we really dumb enough to put Fritsch back into defence after the abject failure that was Fritsch in the backline in 2019?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Meanwhile our midfield last week was poor and we've made no changes. All of Sparrow, Jones, Brayshaw and Harmes retain their spots.

I don't mind Bennell and ANB changing up our forward half mix, and I absolutely agree with TMac being dropped, but I'm concerned that we're going to disrupt the improvement and progress we saw in our back half.

Maybe it's MFCSS, but I can see one of Adelaide's talls doing a Kent Kingsley and bagging 5 against us, making Lever and May look woeful as they repeatedly find themselves out of position trying to cover too many talls without support.

Agree with all of the above. The Tmac decision was mandatory, the rest - ?????

This was a perfect game to help May Lever and O Mac further gell together.

Jones kicking across ground to the crows here we come.

A short week then 4 days later,  both games need to be treated together, but aiming to have our best result for both

Jones is done,  TMac is done, at least for this match, if they smarten up maybe back for the Kangeroos

Brayshaw in the middle,   working at big Maxy's feet     and Viney can move through the fwd line

OUT:  Jones,  TMac,   and 2 of Fritsch, Harmes, Hannan,

IN: Bennell, Rivers, vandenBerg,  ANB or Tomlinson,    maybe keep AVB for the North game

Maybe swap Rivers and Lockhart for one of these two games.  maybe ANB to the wing and Tomlinson to a HFF,  We will also need to look at when we should play Spargo, Bedford, Brown, Dunkley, Chandler and anyone who is not injured. Fresh legs against a team that's only had a four day break might be very telling in the last quarter.

    Interesting times.....

I Like this 640MD. Vandeburg isnt a great disposer but gee he hardens up the team like no other.

Jones and Tmac are nevr to be picked this year.

I think you can read what I have said. He took a contested mark, something Jackson is yet to do.TMac was much more useful and has experience. What did Jackson do?

Was that the contested mark he took 5 m out near the goal square and promptly kicked a behind?

Dropping some players might make a small, one off statement, but as has been the case for 18 months, it's not going to fix us.

Only proper change across our coaches and players, will fix us.

Agree. We can move players in and out but its a systematic problem.

I could only watch a few minutes last night and the very first thing I saw was Viney running out of centre and doing a long bomb into the forward 50, head down. Marked by Port defender of course.

This is system  and strategy  issue starting with coaching.

Don't fix that and nothing changes
