Good call. Jackson/Weideman is the future. Lets see how they go in a crunch game.

meh, seems like a bit of a f log and did nothing at sydney, would've preferred dylan grimes from richmond or brayden maynard from collingwood. we always seem to get the dud brother

I'm not sure what a [censored] is, I guess it sounds bad. A good term when you don't have a thesaurus.

He played 90 games under master coach John Longmire, and got 21 possessions in a Grand Final as a 21 year old.

Better than I could do for sure

It was quite bizarre the way the commentators were laughing about it, like he’s just a knockabout larrikin.

Not garry lyon. He was disgusted at mummy's approach and said last night in On the Couch that he's just an ex boxer and the game has no room for that behaviour

The Age reporting Zac Jones will be out with a hamstring. Very handy.

I would have loved zak Jones at the dees. I see him as the main change to the saints style with his toughness and running. Big loss for them. The only player in that team with finals and serious big game experience

    Interesting for the selectors.

Win by 50+ points and we would overtake a beaten St Kilda.

Go too attacking and we can become unstuck.

Go too conservative and potentially miss out on %

If Saints win, just need to get the points and pray for Freo.

    In: Jackson, Harmes

    Out: ANB, Tomlinson

    Good summary.

Bottom line is we need to probably win by 6 goals unless the saints lose by heaps. Thus we need a team that can score quickly in short quarters and has good accuracy, not wasting chances . A narrow win serves no purpose.

The team needs the talent accordingly and that includes jackson if fit. And i would punt with Bennell also

you realise if gws win we still won't make finals? The % diffis far too great.

maybe actually crunch all of the numbers first. The season ended against fremantle.

    Wrong.

If the saints lose by 25 points and we beat the Bombers by 25 wer'e in.

If we cant beat the bombers by 50 we shouldnt be in the finals anyway.

I'm not into betting, but the odds for the Saints  v GWS game is 1.48  vs 2.05.  That's line ball IMO . GWS are not without a good chance, especially with Josh Kelly back after a good run last week and new gun forward Jake Riccardi back after the rest and the skipper in after Camerons statement to him.

I have been relying on the Giants to beat saints as our best option but what is the Giants realistic chance of making it?

they can't make up % on us or Saints so they completely rely on the Dogs losing.

I reckon the saints will have more motivation

The upside is that the Giant won't know the otucomes of key results before they play on Friday and would at least give it a crack.

In 2017, the Crows had secured top spot so rolled over to west coast in perth and we lost out on their resulting %.

Longmuir was probably part of taking us down in 2017. Hopefully he can do us the favour this time

Agree. And he was often quoted as a key reason Buckley got the Pies to the 2018 GF as part of that coaching squad.

And they have the mighty Nat Fyffe as a foil to the Bont.

hopefully doggies regret not putting their foot on the hawks throat in the 2nd half.

They will next weekend as we did in 2017. Freo are not now playing like a bottom side and have an excellent strategic coach in Longmuir. GWS showed how to put the Dogs away in last years finals. Aggressively tag Bontempelli

It wasn't as damaging percentage wise as it was looking early.

I hope that Gunston no score doesn't cost us in the end.

Such a Melbourne result if it does.

One hurdle at least was jumped for us in that the Dogs were looking at a 12 goal win and the Hawks kept it to 6.

Thus they cannot beat our % if they lose next week and we win. Otherwise we would be 9th on a lower % .

The dogs now MUST beat freo to stay in the 8, and cannot afford to cruise to avoid injury.

Small mercy but it all adds up.

  11. Although today is the penultimate round, I hark back to 1987 when the club needed the Hawks to beat Geelong to allow Dees into the finals.

So like that day, I am a keen Hawks fan from now  until 6.00pm tonight. Buckenara and Dunstall kicked 8 between them to haul in a 6 goal deficit after 3/4 time.

The Dees werer misleadingly told at the 3/4 time huddle the Hawks were ahead as legend has it, as opposed to be being 4 goals down.

So ignore the Split Enz classic and believe that history does repeat. - today anyway.

Langdon will love playing on the MCG.

In Langdons post game interview on Ch 7 with Richo and James Brayshaw, he said specifically he came back home to play on the  G.  He said unfortunately its the Gabba for this year but the wide open space on that ground suit him also. A great answer I thought.

Richo also said during his brilliant gut run in the final 1/4 leading to a goal that that effort took just as much courage to do  at the end of a game as putting your head over the ball.

Highly complimentary of a player who sems to be quiet and just loves running and linking. Many teams won't have a match up for him .

That's a bloke who knows that the job isn't done.  That's the maturity we want.  Be happy with the win, but we need to focus on next week very quickly.

Nailed it. There's a player whose not satisfied and maybe still hurting from last week. I call that professional and understanding the task at hand still.

But I loved the elation of Steven May after his emotions of last week. The club will make the finals if he has anything to do with it.

Is that the 57km long Swiss alp gotthard tunnell?

Not sure which tunnel, but if 21 is a disaster and there's no KPI out clause for the club then clearly that light I mentioned is that oft noted train headlight coming down the tracks from the other direction towards us.

I'd say Caroline after our latest loss decided to ring a few people to see if there was anything brewing at the club. Obviously, one source, probably a former board member, decided to mention Stephen Smith. Caro has a bit each way in mentioning him saying he might challenge for the presidency and he may not!

The rest of the article is padding/commentary. The world according to Caro.

She needs copy to get her retainer paid weekly so any story will do. Remember she's just 60 and still a long way from pension age so must keep working.

Yes but having him for 2021 fills me with dread.

Sure does, but there's light at the end of the tunnel regarding no lock in for 2022, if heaven forbid we have a shocker in 21.

What amazes me is how on earth are we 18th for clearances with Gawn, Oliver , Trac ... etc in themidfield.

Something is seriously wrong and the midfield coach position surely must be up for grabs at least?

While that's his reputation, I didn't see it in the games he played for us.

I'm not saying he shouldn't remain on our list, but I also think he's still some distance away from his best footy. Will he get there? I don't know.

Fair point but he did show real class at times and a propensity to hit targets.  Your right on his journey though just being underway.

This is why Goodwin can't coach

It was I think 103 to 44 at half time

Blindly freaking obvious how Freo were playing yet we did nothing at all about letting them control the football

    Anyone care to defend that?

He's [censored] hopeless so it's our vaunted leadership

    Get hodge

    Harsh but accurate.

This issue that 'blind freddie' could see can be added to the list in general - dominating inside 50's, Taps to advantage for little rewards, goal kicking inaccuracy, failure to hit targets.

All since 2017 yet Simon keeps talking without any perceived actions and/or corresponding improvements.

I hope we make it , but insipid performances next 2 weeks will put Simon under the Board's blowtoch big time I would have thought and may be a blessing in disguise.

Finals this year will be simply a reprieve for the end of his contract.

If the most unskilled club in the league can't fit in a highly talented (albeit not at peak fitness) player such as Bennell this week, then I suspect that club and player have unofficially parted ways.

spot on. He's so skilled that he stood out big time when he has played doing things most of the team can't execute and should be in for that reason alone.

  21. 25 minutes ago, Lord Travis said:

West Coasts on-field leadership got them over the line last night. Half their team out injured, down with 7 minutes to go, top 4 on the line. Naitanui, Gaff, Hurn, Sheperd, Darling, Kennedy all stood up in key moments and dragged them to victory. Good clubs have leadership all across the ground, and you look at those names it's leaders on each line.

It's exactly what we're missing - leadership across the club. Board, coaches, players. We brought Lever and May across for their leadership as much as their playing ability, but on-field leadership outside the backline is seriously lacking. The forward line lacks decent players, let alone leaders capable of standing up, inspiring, and directing others.

Until we fix our leadership issues, it's irrelevant if we make finals or not.

Not necessarily related but Giants have shown their ruthless streak by dropping thir skipper for tomorrow night for form reasons. That mindset really worries me  for the game outcome.
