good summary. Pre-Roos the Dees were just embarrassing. Roos gave the club a sliver of self-esteem and built around that and stopped the on-field bleeding with a fix the defensive efforts first. Setting up the team for finlas in Goody's first year which should have happened(2017) Others then built a list on the foundations . No way is Neeld a David Noble either. vastly diferent circumstances and an insult to Noble.

Not really. Laura said clarry given every chance for port and nothing more definitive than that and if not hopeful for dogs.

Fair point in that "all" was over the top. But again this is an issue for a so called professional on half a mill per annum having a go home factor. If its true then I don't get it. Jusy say i want more money and move on. But don't plead homesickness.

Fritsch operates on the here and now and never doubts himself. Exhibit A is the goal in the Lions game fed to him by Clarry in traffic and a lightning quick snap by Bailey was a game winner. Same for the Thursday night issue. Luke Hodge believes this is how he thinks but will know he should have passed to Langdon . A simple message on Monday and he'll improve but lets not dump on the kid who got us back into the GF when all was lost. He's still only 24 and still learning.

Brilliant re: your response above to a Clayton Oliver/jackson post. For the life of me, this going home crap is just that - crap. If not, then don't tell me AFL is a professional sport. It ain't. Just say you're leaving for more money and leave it at that. We will understand. All of us have moved around the country, sometimes the world, for work. Suck it up afl players or move on and get out of our way. Clarry's signing just put the Jacko issue in context. Taylor and Co. will do the best deal and develop the best solution to support the Dees once-in-a-generation squad no matter what. Clarry/Viney/Gawn/Trac (and Angus) are cultural icons and all have done the hard yards of this squad and consequently a priority. Jacko's a Flag player at 19ish. Success has come too early to him to appreciate those with more history of the dark days. Players can either get on board - or not.

Thanks for this background. I hope Ryan and the team understand how much they are appreciated by the rest of us Dees in the bleaches. They do a mighty job on behalf of us all. He was conspicuous in the 2018 finals charge on TV and at the time I felt how well deserved those wins were for the DA to appreciate after the past decade of keepng the faith. Please pass these comments on. Thanks

Broken sounds bad but maybe hairline which I suspect given they plan to miss 1 week with him.

I Agree. They Will win the minor premiership (I assume thats what you mean). Because the Dees best, the Tiges best, the Blues best (with full defensive unit) and even Freo will address the Cats weaknesses in the finals on a larger ground. Again. Dees were within a goal with 10 minutes to play and with poor performances and structure . The Lions win tells me we still have it, just that its got to come together perfectly. And Hawkins/Cameron can be managed.
-
Nailed it bitter. I saw the lions game live and the dees were awesome that day only 2 weeks ago. We had 5 day break and they had a bye last week. Cats will be dealt with in september on the G when tables are even

Not just Salem's return. Bowey coming in and grabbing his chance was an issue also. Bowey's elite kicking and decision-making ability puts him ahead of Rivers for now in defence.

What They Are Saying at Moorabool Street

Not really. The uprade has for years sucked out available state grants from geelong in other areas. The new library just completed . The arts precinct only now being rebuilt. Yet down the road for a lousy 9 times a year for less than capacity crowds in nearly all games all the main capex money was spent on a ground that is the wrong shape anyway years earlier than many needed projects. Btw find 60 dollars if you want a seat. This club is elitist and most geelong people don't or can't afford to attend. -

Yes and the ground is 30 metres narrower than the G and other grounds. Therein lies the problem. Lack of planning foresight at the time lost the opportunity to make the ground an afl dimension. It could have been achieved but the simple route was taken. -
Part of a defensive group that had the 4th highest ever intercept mark or intercepts for a single game (I think). Lever played a minor role but was part of the group nevertheless
-
His most memorable was in the Gf when he gave jack McCrae a friendly (and probably) sympathetic pat after Trac had nailed him for holding the ball. Seemed like it was a kind of 'No hard feelings mate.." probaly around the time of his 36th possie for that game. Clarry's on Saturday was a class act IMO.

Pass that on to most SEN staff, Whately especially, w.r.t AFL criticism. Never bite the hand that feeds you is on Hutchy's office wall I suspect.

Absolutely it is given the ground is around 30 metres narrower than the G. The Cats win, then the issue will be we'll get them next time at the G. Which we will. AFL seems to favour crowd maximisation in finals w.r.t using the Cats home ground.. The Cats ground will be still under construction this finals series so I doubt even a Cat v Freo final would be played there. -
Sorry , my mistake on Riccuito. Thanks. Its his role as a Crows Board member commentating. In what universe is this acceptable?
-
You describe Oliver in every one of his games. And he did sort his goal kicking out when it counted - 30 secs to go in the GF third quarter (although he did say later the kick was a bit of a floater) Last night highlighted for me why Oliver, and Trac, last year, got 7 year deals and wer'e just so lucky to have them. If Luke jackson moves on then its for a whole lot of reasons the Dees were never going to have an answer for , like familiy, and he is yet to deserve their treatment deal wise, and would be based on potential upside, so I'll just sit back and enjoy Clarry and Trac and rest of team weave their magic till 2030 and wish Luke the best.
-
I'm with you big time Superunknown, and did the same. But secondly, the other turn-off was the Commentary. Why does Ch 7 persisit with a Crows Football Director as a special comments boundary rider in Riccuito.? Useless. Huddo, and the sheer brilliance of Clarry and Trac and team were the only worthwhile resason to watch live. I caught up the second half replay later. Bring on streaming, more kayo quality shows, etc etc. ...and so long Ch 7. They are so down-market and immature in their talent (except Daisy of course) Another poster on here noted the quality of umpiring was tops in the GF last year. It was , and gee it shows the gaps betwen the best the AFL has in this department and the others that are making up the numbers.
-
I like Garry Lyon's approach. He says Oliver is the best Dees midfielder he has seen. I agree for sure. Clarry and Flower are incomparable in each of their positions and roles. As to which one is better - its an academic exercise , like comparing a ruckman and rover. Individually I think Flower was the more damaging and inspirational esp. given his slight frame. His prefromances in the Big V were a thing of beauty. But blessed to have seen them both for their full careers.

Or unless some papers need signing and witnessing by Manager and this can't be done electronically. (although these days counterparts can be signed remotely. Maybe its the theatre of the thing?
-
Why? List mgt is across the club as a whole and do you thinl the Boatd will approve a deal overpaying oliver and not leaving enough for others. That's the path to mediocrity. We dont know the money clarry is on nor the contract payment timing. Neither does the media. Why won't the club and team take collectively less for the sake of a once in a lifetime dynasty? . A la the Cats. I think they will. Luke included.
-
No comparison with Grundy as you point out. Franklin and Martin are the closet examples to type for Oliver. In additon, there's a large number of A graders of similiar age within the team and this simply locks away the multiple building blocks for sustained success with all those players spending their careers together. That's a powerful weapon re: team unity. very difficult to put a value on this, but the usual commentary for GF success is the number of players that have played say, 100 games up to a young age say, early 20's. In other words the Dees demographic now in place. Oliver is just an outlier by a couple of years. Grundy was just another poor decision by the Pies. Dees fans to enjoy the next 6 years.
-
Good call . Its a whole-of club issue list mngt. and the costs thereof. If you don't you get a debacle like at the Pies under Eddie, having to offload club stalwarts. And still paying the price.

Does anyone watch Footy Classified now? Panel members past their 'use by' dates. Eddies on because his company makes the program so another channel to gets his head on TV and have a megahorn available. Then home to Toorak at evenings end. Lyon tipped Doggies in the 2021 GF. Caro now a shadow of her former self as a journo and 'newsbreaker'. - pretty much lowest common denominator stuff from her - cue the Saints beat up this week. Matthew Lloyd the only worthwhile member. And i do have time for Kane Cornes, but he's also cleverly deveopled a controversial personna to foster clickbait so good luck to him. And Iv'e discovered 'On the Couch ' which does me very well thanks. So long Channel 9 and thanks for all the fish.
