I'd put Yze on a wing and move Jimmy Jordan into the guts. Team balance. Means Yze can stay in touch with the bench more easily. He'll probably give himself coaches votes too!
-
A good summary I reckon LITD. Sitting on the Oposite wing to Langdon ( the James Jordan Wing at present) the ball was often in dipsute with some ferocious attacks by Dees in defending and repelling moves by the Tiges. Can't criticise effort and commitment at all times. I took solace in the team kicking 10.2 in the 3rd 1/4 last week and put this inaccuracy last night to 'on of those games' The takeout in the media was the Dees could have won by 12 goals plus they were that superior except for kicking.

This is the issue with Smith. It stands out when the rest of the defence are top notch. and maybe that's his problem. How can he shine in the presence of May, Lever, Petty, Bowey, Salem, Hunt(usually),.......?
-
My point exactly. If Weid needs to be more 'chilled' to perform and has trouble controlling say, anxiety, then hopefully the club is working on this with him. BBB's encouraging hug to Weid after the game suggest this and that awareness of all around him is not an issue and was a credit to Ben to put his arm around Sam. Never would I compare the skill of any player with Flower, let alone Weid. My point was Flower may have been on edge but having seen nearly all his games live , one would oftern never have an inkling he was conerned about what happens next when close to the ball. He knew ahead of everyone around him.
-
Flower was a genius who saw the ball way ahead of opponents and seemingly played in slow motion. Similar to Pendles. Weid not in the same universe as robbie. Dont get me wrong as i hope weid has a fantastic game and gets his role done.

But will he or should he even?. Don't tell me Steven May plays relaxed. He's on edge all game. best Full back in Australia. You make some good points but if Weid needs to relax to play well then he's in the wrong sport. Tonight will see him right for the next 6-8 games, or IMO marked never to be slected again.
-
And if he starts flying and spoiling BBB tonight then its over for me with thim. I hope Goody sorts this out because this is a problem with Weids as I see it. And keep out of baileys patterns also.
-
I have no knowledge of Dunstan or remember seeing him play at the saints. What can we expect tomorrow night from him???? Any thoughts appreciated

I have lots of faith in the jordans and sparrows of this squad. 4 out of 6 premiership defenders too. Not ideal but go Dees.

Club announced lineup different to one on afl website

Goody proved to me last year that he doesn't play favourites and selects the best team available. I thought it was a weakness of his but not now. Your last sentence BBP is spot on IMO. Thus weid misses out because i think Tmac gets the nod for his other work around the HFF and wing, plus he's top notch at breaking packs open.

Not necessarily. Goodwin on Sportsday this week tallked about Weid doing well within a period of the last 3 weeks, but not indicating specifically in each game. Glowing wasn't my take on it. A bit like " damned by faint praise". He's valued but can't yet fit in to a 2 man tall foward structure, which Goody categorically confirmed in the Presser that 3 into 2 won't go. Brown's a definite with Grimes out. Tmac or Weid will suit me fine but not against a better defence.

As a scientifically-trained professional having majoring in physics, Hawkins staging defies Newtons laws of motion unless he propels himself. No way does the Hawks defender shove a 103kg weight into orbit in the manor of Hawkins flight path. Tom's a marvel at staging and the AFL/MRO system is scandalously incompenent. Next we'll all be told , as spectators, we Boo too much. But gee its hard sometimes. Go Dees.

Thanks for this gerat summary of Bowey. I would argue that I have confidence in how he will handle 'difficulties' given his GF performance in absolute heat of the 3rd quarter - i.e.pass to Gus for the goal for such a young player. Jason Taylor saw him as having the best decision-making qualities in his draft and was one reason we selected him. I'm not sure when he will find a stressful situation he can't handle. (although it will happen sometime) My view on Bowey is just how lucky he, and the Dees, are that he will grow to maturity in the leadership and company of slightly older champions in Lever and Salem. (same goes for Rivers).

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Demon17 replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Brad Scott's statement released just now is pathetic for a senior exec in charge of ops. If he was sincere about fixing the issue he would acknowledge the incorrect decsion yesterday giving Hawkins free which actually led to the understandably human respone from the Hawks players . Fault on both sides. But no, that would never do. That would go a long way to keeping the public on side. You can [censored] about the lack of umpires respect Brad but this case was a gold-plated opportunity to showyour'e in touch with the emotion of the game and has its best interests at heart. It will cost someone a flag, but then it's too late. -

Why? What did you think would happen? Appointment of Brad Scott was just another out-of-work clubland person deemed to be suitable for this type of role in the AFL. Need to identfy better strategic implementation- types to take on the football ops roles at senior level in the AFL. How on earth could Scott have signed off on the arms waving interpretation. He of all people should know better. But the AFL is a club in itself and won't improve in this regard. -
8 Marks, 13 possessiosn for 3 goals 3 in game 1 against the Dogs. Only 30 days ago. Then covid interruption. Last 2 VFL outings surely are irrelevant. 1 back from injury, the other back from isolation. We have a consistently effective premiership full forward. He comes in.

Very happy for Frosty.
-
Some of us have a different interpretation of the word " performed " than you. No way did weid cement his spot last night.
-
Agreed its a great problem. But as with Petty, a finals star defender, once fit he's back into the best defence in the AFL no question and the same thinking by Goodwin will do the same and premiership forward back in next week for Weid. Hard call but the right one. Goodwin avoided the isseu at the presser by emphasising just how tough it is for spots but footy has always been this way. So many in this team are now automatic selections on merit and history.
-
None. It was a rubbish analysis by Lyon who commonly backed the Dees oppositon last year as if he couldn't believe or accept the rise of MFC and not taking into acount of the Dees match day system . Goody has the eyes and ears up in the box of Yze, Chaplin etc looking over the ground and constantly in Goody's ear. The best coaches are doing it for some time - think Fagan for example.
-
Exactly. Huge match up problem for tiges. Goodwin has showed sentiment doesn't count. Brown is a class above weid and will be picked.
-
Great post on goodwin. Ross lyon stated before gf last year that goodys boundary line coaching could cosy us a win.

Dunstans out on the ground helping out with warm up.
