  1. Kossie averages 1 more kick a game and 30% more tackles a game than Weightman. Both average around 1.5 goals a game. Kossie certainly needs a form and discipline adjustment at this stage of the season. Weightman also had a lean patch up the previous round. Hopefully Kossie turns things around in the second half of the season. Though I wouldn’t mind seeing him start next game as the sub to fire him up a little.
  2. You are right. The ball had to be over the line and the boot still in front of the line to be a goal. I remember doing this myself on a couple occasions. It was a clear rule that every player knew. Kind of has been forgotten now at least at AFL level. Perhaps to do with e frenetic pace and pressure of the modern game. Almost impossible to pull off a delicate tap and keep the foot in front of the line under pressure. The player will be severely crunched.
  3. Port reverting to type. Shades of 2021 prelim so far.
  4. Gunston 32 years old and Rich 33 years old. I say more of a case these guys reaching their use by date with age related form and injuries. Still an odd thing to do. I’d say it’s by arrangement with the coaches and selectors to avoid the indignity of once great players being dropped for the majority or entirety of the remaining season.
  5. I think he is currently general manager of Casey Demons.
  6. Peter Maynard played 8 games in the 1970’s for us before going on to play around 200 games for Glenelg in the SANFL.
  7. And his father played for us as well. Likely grew up a Dees supporter.
  8. The Sicily tackle is complicated by the other Hawthorn player falling over Sicily and McLuggage mid tackle. Looks to me it may have had an effect on how the tackle ended up.
  9. Smith’s career has been ruined by injuries. Plays 2 or 3 games then out for months with injuries. Never had a chance to establish himself as a regular.
  10. To be fair their midfield has been a bit light recently.
  11. What kind of bird is a Spargo, maybe a type of seagull?
  12. I heard that Cox sucker punched one of our players.
  13. Kozzi should be made sub next game to hopefully make him think about his approach to the game from the bench. Replace him with Jordan who got more ball in one quarter than Kozzi did the whole match. Too good to drop at this stage but needs some time out.
  14. Too many Yank sportsmen are sore losers by nature. When they lose it’s because they haven’t cheated hard enough.
  15. Not the player since his contract renewal.
  16. Ginnivan out McInness in. Jordan our sub.
  17. I feel good vibes today. I believe any residue draining away of bathwater has been completed and players will respond accordingly.
  18. West Coast are generally a 10 goal better side playing at Optus.
  19. If we get in a close game in Adelaide the umpiring becomes stacked against us at the finish as happened in 2018 against Port and in 2021 against Crows.
  20. Port Adelaide’s now new umpire favourites.
  21. I recall reading that Leigh Matthews admitting he never got into a fight outside of football in his life. We must remember that players with certain abilities were encouraged to be thugs by coaches and the games culture. Thuggery has through footballs history until recently has been a core tactic of the game. A throwback to aggressive zero sum what ever it takes to win Anglocentric colonial/settler culture. It is what it is and now only legal implications not player welfare keep egregious brutality in check.
  22. Malthouse learnt his craft under Allan Jeans at St Kilda. Arguably the most thuggish team at the time.
  23. Yep he did play for Kew. At the time Kelvin Matthews, Leigh Matthews brother who also played for Hawthorn came to our school and invited all the best school footballers to go down to train at Hawthorn. 5 of them eventually made it into the Hawthorn squad. Dipper was invited also because of his size and strength. At school football games he could run hard in a straight line and bowl opponents over but that was all to his game. He could barely kick the ball.
