The most games in a year he's ever played is 19.. The year when he came 6th in the BNF, a matter of points of 4th with 3 less games, and also the year where Moloney was a clear clear standout. Other than that he has played only 15, 16 or 17 games and once with 18. When a club BNF is voted like MFCs where you're given votes 22 down to 1 based on who was best to worst on ground missing 3 games like he did in 2011 sacrifices 66! Votes. When he's missed 6,7 games he's sacrificed over 100-150 votes, of course he won't win the award. It's all well and good to run off your mouth and say his talent should've won one, I agree but you're flatly ignoring facts to make your point and it's not good enough.

Not sure and may have missed the boat here but semi keen to make a 10 man league before the season starts if anyone was keen? Not phased by which system is used but if 9 show interest ill get us started! Cheers, DL7

Underachieving.. Morton was a pick 3, he played 2 good games.. How many good picks have left us because they've failed or not been good enough. Sylvia only looks like he's underachieved because everyone around him has been so disappointing, when he plays well we win generally, in good teams when players have an off game their team covers them.. He's never had that player at Melbourne. You can come at me with all your never been in top 5 in the BNF, but I counter it with the fact he's never played a full season in 10 years. It was easy for Geelong to let go off Steve Johnson when he was difficult and inconsistent but good clubs work with their players to help them be consistent, not waste them. We can dance around how much of a waste Sylvia's been but when the writings on the wall MFC is to blame for failing to crack the whip when he needed it.

I'm waiting for Jnr to splutter his thread ending crap of Sylvia and very surprised he wasn't first in but I can only ever ask myself why everyone is so certain Sylvia will walk out as soon as his contract is up?! He's never held us to ransom come contract time in the past, never come out in public and criticized even though he's been punished and watched teammates thrown out the door. There is nothing that proves or disproves he doesn't bleed red and blue and wants to be a life player?

Missed first 5 rounds of the draft and it's brutalised me. My own fault but I got some late picks that I'm happy with. Here's to winning Kicks Marks and Handballs!
-
How embarrassing. HT you are entitled to belt me Rd 1
-
And on the eve of the draft a quick thanks again to JA who's work into the league is so appreciated no amount of thanks for us will do you justice. To 2013!
-
Hey Sting the points is a mix of both- if your team kicks 10 goals 5 points your score is 65 and your accuracy is .666. Whereas you kick 9 goals straight your score is 54 points and accuracy is 1.000! In this matchup Team A would win score and B would win Accuracy %! Hope it clears it up Thanks HT

Yeah I agree, for example my keeper was Matthew Priddis who we all know excels at accumulating excessive hand balls but kicks and marks not a strong point. He was worth it for me because I thought he guaranteed me one point although hurting my chances at 2 points being kicks and marks. I also have Scully as a keeper under the same mould targeting the handballs. Now that category wins me 2 points but I'm sacrificing 6 points in marks and kicks. Why are they weighted better than my handballs?! Ps any interest in trading Buddy there MM I offer you good price haha.

Pederson, Dawes and Byrnes haven't even played a game for us yet... How can you label one a spud. I think you're the spud. March bloody madness I tell ya.

In my opinion having score at 4, I will predict will ruin this year. It's simply too much for a category that can be won by just one person. Even when Swan or Ablett has 40 there is 14 other players who have an effect on possessions and can even the ledger... If Buddy kicks 8, with 3 forwards in this years comp you just won't be able to match him and for me it will make for many a match where the winner will be undeserving looking at stats. It's a day out from the draft so we'll all cop it for the year, but I'd like it reviewed for 2014. I had no issues with the 1,1,1,1,1 system it was fair for all so I think we got it wrong here. Ps whoever has Buddy, congratulations!

This might sound stupid but I'm disappointed Mark has dropped that line. He must know by now we as supporters are over excuses, it happens to teams regularly and they find a way. He should coach so that we do the same. He's always come across as a 'I don't give excuses kind of a guy' yet we get beaten by a rubbish team and he comes back with the same stuff as Bailey, Viney and all before him. Lets hope the regular season footy is considerably better than today, I don't read much into the NAB Cup results wise, but by the sounds of it 2013 sounding alot like 2012.

MFC tweeted good courage by Strauss dropping back into a pack... Good signs

Am I welcome BH?

I primarily agree with most of what you say WYL but that's just ridiculous. We had alot of young players playing that day and 'leaders' of the club let them down. But getting rid of 22 is just stupid. It would've hurt them far more than us, they were the joke for the rest of the year, and it still gets brought up. I'd like to think the players drive a system where they'll never let their teammates feel like they/we did that afternoon because it was the darkest in our 155 year history.
-
It's not about 2012 performance it's about 2013 prediction. He doesn't think Fyfe was top 50 in 2012 persay just thinks he'll be top 50 in 2013..
-
Whilst I love the optimism I would say there's a 5% chance even 3 of them will make it. If garland even makes a top 50 I will eat my shorts

Sylvia got away with two many shortcuts as a new draft pick and now he's a middle aged player it's simply to late to adjust. He's not the only one, development and handing games had long been an issue for the MFC, but it's clear now that trend has been stopped by Neeld. Do I think Sylvia has an impact to make for our team though? Hell yes I do. Is he a disappointment as a player? No, but is he a disappointment as a pick 4, clearly yes. The type of player Colin is are carried by all the successful teams. The problem is Xfactor players are never as successful in poor teams. Jared Brennan whilst still frustrating was excellent in at the time a top 8 Brisbane team; put him in a [censored] Gold Coast team and he plays 2's. Sylvia and Watts along with Jones were our best players over the last 5-6 weeks of the season and that was primarily playing Colin as a high HFF with short sharp bursts in the centre, it was successful for both parties and I hope Mark continues with this into 2013. I predict Sylvia to hit the market in 2014 but from all reports he is very much a Demons first kind of guy. I hope he turns a corner this year and commits so that he enjoys some time to shine in the Red and Blue.

After mentioning seeing him, I spoke to a mate of mine who is pretty sure McDonald won't be playing Round 1 and said it was the same frame as Blease's injury 4-6. Clearly Melbourne aren't choosing to mention that will be interesting to see whether they're doing smoke screens or my info is off.
-
No I agree with the concept and I like many of it merits don't get me wrong. However if the last round comes around I'm 9th you're 16th, you're the worst team in the comp if you're percentage has gone up 1% since you missed finals and this is my first game since missing out, there's a far chance you'll cop a spanking ill gain a few % you'll lose a few and suddenly ill have pick 1 or 2 and you'll have pick 5 or 6. Will that motivate you to come back next year given you were the worst team I was 9th and ill get the better player... I'm not sure it will
-
This shows why the system doesn't work though. Give the Kangaroos Lachie Whitfield and they're suddenly awesome in 2 years. It needs to be done only with bottom 5 or 6 teams because chances are the 9th team will win their games after they can't make finals cos they're just better teams so thus will always get best picks..

The Neeld era is 1 year in duration the Royal is 4. I think some of the criticism is unfair, but at the end of the day someone needs to be responsible for the failings of our generally low draft picks in the midfield. Yes Jones has come on, but Trengove, Morton, Sylvia, Gysberts and Tapscott are currently behind where they all should be on the natural growth curve of an AFL player. These mids Geelong keep drafting aren't just great late picks they're coached well. Any of Horlin-Smith, Christensen, Duncan, Smedts, Burbery, Murdoch would all step into our starting midfield and 2 would arguably be close to our best player. If I keep butchering my job, questions get asked.. Dean got his orders it's only natural that Brian's name would be raised when your midfield is constantly the worst.

Move along Stu, I like what you have to say when you're talking about a topic not being personal. Keep it footy related.

That whole China trip is an effing joke the way it's reported about. Every single footy trip is an absolute [censored]-up and I don't understand why this journal seems to think Melbournes 'culture' bought him down. We didn't come up with post season drinking an frankly the fact Tom had to go home from such an event shows he's a [censored]. I know a few GWS players and actually went out with them a few weeks ago and they were far worse than the few times I've seen Melbourne players on the terps. Will Tom leave again? Liam has noone to blame but himself, but this clown to blame Melbournes drinking culture is a joke. I don't smoke so if all of my colleagues are, do I suddenly light up? God no. Such excuses for him are childish, take responsibility for your actions son and you may finally gain back the games respect.

$20 bucks is disappointing. Ill still go but quite frankly for the club to market this 'free Family Day' is very cheeky.
