Footscray v Casey Scorpions (Jesse Hogan returns)
P-man replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh well, no fairytale return this year. Need to get a big pre-season into the lad. Toump likewise. -
Sharwood is a Sydneysider who has openly admitted he doesn't care much for AFL, yet is also the chief sportswriter for news.com.au. Go figure. He used to write for The Punch where opinion was the order of the day and facts were sometimes a secondary concern. He would've written that line without a second thought, obviously overlooking the fact it isn't subtle, clever or funny. .

I laughed. Richo the pro.
-
Don't forget Rich to come back. Quite arguably the best kick in the league. Their list is starting to look very promising indeed.
-
Just continues spreading egg on faces. 32 disposals at 75%, 7 marks, 27 hitouts. This bloke is just destroying everyone. If he was still at the club, everyone would be singing his praises. .

Yet another Saty "Demonland is awful and all of you are awful" derail Correct. The fact Neeld was gone 2 years later doesn't change the fact that calling for a coach's head 10 weeks in is just headline chasing rubbish. Every coach deserves a chance to lay their foundation, Neeld included.

Chip is a filthy Spurs supporter?? Well that's it, he can go then. I kid, I kid. Kinda.

I wouldn't be so quick to summarily dismiss this game as just another week. Coming from where we are, wins are VITAL for this club. These players are starved of them. Performances have wavered of late with some positive signs against the Hawks, but this week the boys need to win. No ifs. No buts. The Giants are depleted and we are playing on our home ground. We lose this one and it will be ending the season on the flattest note possible. You could almost say it will place real question marks over our progress. A lot of our indicators still make for some very ugly reading. Every coach says that the end of the season plays a part with momentum carried into the next. It's not "huge", but it's important that we get the win. Preferably in convincing fashion.

Players to target at the end of the year
P-man replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't disagree but the comment was we have no leaders. I listed 3 current ones and 3 future ones. Recent trends would suggest that leadership is high on the list of qualities we are looking for in players. -

Let's not get silly. Jones Cross Dawes Viney Toumpas - U18 state captain Kennedy Harris - Oakleigh chargers captain, first indigenous captain in TAC Cup history There's just a few names. The last three in particular clearly have leadership qualities within them and all going well will be part of the core group to lead the club into its next phase of success. -

Pears and Butcher? Injury riddled and an impending ban vs injury riddled and can't kick a football to save himself. Where do I sign?! -
A brilliant mind. I enjoyed Norm McDonald's story of "the funniest man in the world". Rik Mayall and Robin Williams. Comedy has lost two kings of the craft this year.

Footscray v Casey Scorpions (Jesse Hogan returns)
P-man replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
lol.."Toumpas too". Toump the bridesmaid. Almost more excited for this game than the main event. In fact scratch that. I am definitely more excited for this one. Please god let them both play well. -
Oh c'mon now Saty, Ox is far from the first person to ever raise the topic of a Watts trade. Were you asleep when his contract renewal was being discussed in the public domain last year?
-
Talking in terms of their short careers, yes of course they have stagnated. Trengove since his first couple of years has gone backwards, and we will wait in hope to see what player emerges next season and beyond. If post surgery we see the same Trengove we saw in 2013, it will be a concern. I know you don't like to hear about concerns, but it will be a legitimate one. Toumpas has done pretty much nothing thus far but also falls into the wait and see category for one so new to AFL. But even for a young player, as a Pick 4, he has stagnated. Grimes has been less than ordinary this year. He remains a solid one-on-one defender but we need more from him than that. I haven't seen a lot of development in Watts this season, particularly in the glaring deficiencies in his game. Roos says otherwise but I reserve the right to disagree with him on some occasions. I stand by my comment that another season like this one and their value will drop significantly, hence the topic of their possible trade value being raised now.
-
Except that there was more credit being given to the proposal than you have stated, or perceived. King said repeatedly that this was a vital trade and draft period for Roos. Whateley sad it might seem bold but now was the time to make such decisions, to which King agreed. Now or never was a theme of the discussion. The point remains that if any of Watts, Grimes, Trengove or Toumpas stagnate further next season, their trade value will plummet. So the proposal was put on the table and the merits of it are being discussed here. If you don't wish to do that, that's fine.
-
Whose "the radio"? The Saints have last spot all but sewn up. It's very difficult to see them winning any of their three remaining games. Both sides will be out to win. People who say anything different are simply pot stirring.
-
King has his faults but he at least puts some sort of thought into his analysis. What the hell Maclure brings to the table, I don't know. A third round pick for Toumpas ffs.
-
Why give up on Toumpas yet? At no stage did King acknowledge his surgery/illness setbacks. He just said he hasn't been playing. Did he even know of them? I think we need to give Watts another year under Roos. He has shown SOME intermittent signs this year of the penny dropping. That said, Pick 20 or thereabouts would give pause for thought. It would be a heartbreaker if Trenners was traded after his foot surgery and went on to star for another club. I seriously doubt he's going anywhere so it's a moot point. It's a discussion that needs to be had, but I don't think King provided the answers. Being bold is one thing, but sacrificing two young talents (picks 2 & 4) with everything still ahead of them isn't helpful and isn't going to happen I wouldn't think
-
What an amazing turnaround it has been. Great news. Will be around alot longer than 2016 you would expect.
-
This label of "bashing" that gets attributed to anyone who is critical of Watts' output to date is silly.
-
There's that word again: hope. It is always a case of hope with Watts. Eventually reason needs to take over. One more year to show real progress on the flaws in his game and some consistency to match, or he needs to be moved on.
