Oh my god. Get Dawes off the damn ground.

BERNIE VINCE (Appreciation Thread #1245)
P-man replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Haha..so true. I still find it unbelievable. It's as though Malthouse was a Demons supporter. -
Not so sure about that OD. Was listening to Clarko on Fox the other day on the direction of the game, and he was making the most sense out of anyone I've listened to recently. If more teams played like Hawthorn, I doubt there'd be many complaints. Clarkson is one voice you'd absolutely want at the table.
-
The other one I would add is stopping penalising the player who goes to ground to get the ball and gets pinged for "below the knees" when another player dramatically falls over the top of him. Garbage rule in the first place, but if they insist on having it, apply it when a player dangerously slides in, not when he is following his most basic instinct to get the ball. Some of this goes back to the ever increasing argument for full-time professional umpiring, but I think it will be a while before we see that, sadly. I'm not too sure about zones. That seems a fairly dramatic change and a bit knee jerky. But another 5 years of what we have now and I'd be first in the rally line.

It achieved nothing other than the inevitable, which is him looking silly. We're not in Hawthorn's league, not yet, and a faux chest puff wasn't going to change that. He poked the bear and the bear responded to the tune of a 100+ point shellacking going at half tilt. And yes, his near worst on ground performance did add to the embarrassment. Talk a big game when you can actually back it up,

As much as I bemoan the constant alterations to the game, the stoppage fest we're currently seeing on a weekly basis needs to be looked at very soon, if not now. The game is showing little sign of growing out of it and frankly it's an ugly, uninspiring spectacle at present. "Seagulls fighting over a chip" has never been more appropriate. Simple fixes would be a) capping the rotations allowing the game to open up in the second half (injuries will happen regardless and I don't buy the theory that the injury toll will skyrocket as a result); and b) actually rewarding the tackler and reducing the leniency given to the man in possession. More free kicks means less congestion. Get it done and let's see some free flowing footy, like it used to be and the way it was intended to be.

Unless I'm mistaken, JV's comments were made to DeeTV, as opposed to a media conference where Dawes made those infamous remarks, ensuring the Hawks caught wind of it. The setting in which the comments are made is important. JV is mainly addressing the supporters. Dawes was addressing the football world. Agree with Forest. We would've been the ones to pinch the game, had we held on. Our best footy will be needed to bag the 4 points. The Saints can be hard to stop when they get a run on.

Crossy robbed. What the hell did Beams do to earn a vote? He laboured through the entire game doing two fifths of stuff all.
-
Steady on AF. There is some serious competition for that title.

It isn't a stretch at all. There are other circumstances that add to Trengove's story, not least of which is him being asked to lead a club well before anyone should have that duty bestowed upon them and the challenges that has added in his career. To go through the entire injury recovery process and then be on the trade table, only to have his foot cave in for a second time at a stage when he's doing the medical for his prospective club. These are pretty big mental hurdles to overcome. The majority of this place for a long time didn't believe he'd ever come back, and I'd say most of them still hold that opinion. If he can pull it off, it will absolutely be one of the great comebacks of recent times. Menzel hasn't actually made his AFL return yet, but if he does that too will be one of the great stories.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?
P-man replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
Please put a line through Brisbane, praha. I need to see that line. -
I think he's been roundly acknowledged, OD: Yes, it's been a slow Monday morning..
-
Good to see Garlo making a rise. Worthy of votes yesterday and is getting back to some of his best form.
-
A few hard hitting truthes poita. I like it. It's great to praise the defensive effort. It tends to overlook two things though. The first is that it was against Brisbane who could play with no forward line at all and few would notice the difference. The second is that last season there were plenty of great defensive efforts. This season was meant to be about correcting the offensive side, which on yesterday's evidence has made very marginal progress. In fairness to Roos, he can't control Tyson's frankly lazy kicks which miss a forward standing 20 metres away all on his own. When you correct the horrible skill errors and the easy shots at goal, that does turn into a big win. The main positive is the very fact it was a win, which is vitally important for the spirit and mindset of the team. I think we move on from that game quickly and hope for a much better performance against the Saints.
-
This is a seriously ludicrous overreaction. Are we supposed to NOT talk about how poor we were in the second half? Are we meant to just talk in nothing but glowing terms when we win? That's not what good clubs do. Good clubs set themselves high standards irrespective of the result.
-
Vanders got his hands on it but was sloppy. 55% efficiency,
-
6. Cross - has he played a better game? Superb overhead and showed much needed composure in the back half. Sign him up for another year. 5. Gawn 4. Hogan 3. Viney 2. Howe 1. Dawes
-
He showed promise at different stages in his debut year. I'm putting it down to second year blues, for now.
-
It's reasonable to acknowledge it was an ugly win. Viney just described it as such in his post match. Happy, but not overjoyed,
-
Absolute eyesore. Happy to bank the 4 points but that second half. Wow. First half was okay but still only a handful of passages of play that stick out. Most scores came from errors which better sides don't make. The ridiculously easy misses at goal are still an issue. As if we didn't already know, Hogan is going to be a superstar.

Hoooooges
-
Thank god.
-
You simply have to kick those.
-
Lions fielding their best side of the year. Of course.
-
Age is just a number, Macdaddy. Nah, I can see that point of view. But I like to see good form coupled with a good attitude rewarded. Dawes and even Hoges aren't exactly lighting it up. Another big man high on confidence wouldn't go astray. But the result tomorrow will play a big part in selection.
