To be fair, Mcdonald-Tipungwuti had an exceptional game regardless of who was on him, especially considering it's the second one of his career.

6. Kennedy 5. Garlett 4. Vince 3. N Jones 2. Tyson wow...struggling... 1. Viney I guess

Could be some truth to that. Looking for validation over his call for Roos hand over the reigns to Goodwin this season. I just couldn't believe him today. It was like Press Red for David.
-
I'm in no way blaming the umpires but they also seemed to heavily favour them today. Some really soft decisions at critical moments. I can't understand anyone talking up Lumumba. He was terrible. But he had plenty of mates.

King had to be heard to be believed. He admitted at one point that he was "half barracking" for Essendon. Giggled after every Bombers goal. Almost exclusively commentated on what Essendon was doing, good or bad. And to top it off, stated "we believe in Joe" in his summation at half time. I've never heard more one sided tv commentary, ever. Dwayne included. And it's Essendon ffs. King must really, truly hate Melbourne.

Was going to say I'm too angry to be disappointed and I'm too disappointed to be angry. I think the two are cancelling each other out. It was like a nightmare. To lose to that stain of a club in that fashion, with Daniher dominating AGAIN, David King openly barracking and Dwayne calling every play. We need to shrug it off but [censored] me...it's going to be hard to do.

Both of these teams are god awful.

Little tip: Don't put what you think. Put what you think the umpires will think. 3 - Viney 2 - Ward 1 - Watts

Watts wants to stay but will explore free agency.

Strictly in relation to effort, I'd agree. -

There is no way known he's leaving. Viney and Jones are the only two I'd be more surprised by if they left. -

Not solely, no, but it certainly adds to his case I would've thought. He was a signifiicant factor in us winning that game. I think to expect that to be a par performance is a stretch. -

I think his game on the weekend exceeded the minimum requirement. Making the AFL's Team of the Week isn't and shouldn't be the minimum requirement. His general form shown in pre-season set the standard. There looks to be some significant steps forward, but let's not pretend he hasn't teased before. He was outstanding in Round 1 against the Saints two years ago. That remained his best game of the year. He needs to back it up now against the scum and not take the foot off the pedal. -
I just realised and threw up in my mouth a little

I don't mind it. Never understood the hate for it. -
I didn't know about the small animals. Hm. i also just remembered he was once a finalist in the Cleo Bachelor of the Year. Bloody primma donna. Okay, he's gone.

Fair enough. I would stand by my original observation that there is a panicked reaction (not yours necessarily but in the main) on the back of poor form last season. In 2014, the majority on here were marvelling at his decision making under pressure and in heavy traffic.

Tyson tested 3.02 in the 20 metre sprint at the combine so he is no snail. His kicking in match conditions seems to have declined in recent times but often it is a rushed kick out of congestion. Fundamentally I wouldn't say he is a poor kick. i really think there is a sense of panic in the OTT criticism of Tyson based on his less than stellar form last season appearing to flow into this one. We are one game into the season. Calls for him to be dropped are silly.

Interesting to hear that one of the players to take him under their wing is Nev Jetta. For those keeping count, that is Reason #572 for loving Nev Jetta.- 97 replies

There could be some truth to that but reading the play, knowing when to leave your man etc can be developed over time. Look at Rance. He wasn't always the intercepting beast that he is now. Far from it.

That is a fair leap to be making. I think it's more a reflection of their belief in his versatility rather than ruling him out as a KPD. There is plenty of evidence in this package of his abilities to play in defence. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2014-10-16/sam-frost-highlights Simply put, his major weapon is his size combined with his speed. Something which we are yet to see being put to full use.

It brings me back to what an achievement it was to snag that top 5 pick. This year's crop was talked down pre-draft but there are some others who have looked likely types - Papley, Mathieson (before he got injured), Dunkley etc. -
Still has the look of a square peg in a round hole as a forward. Would rather have him continuing to develop his craft as a defender at Casey.

You're underselling them big time. The Giants have a ridiculous amount of top end talent and it showed. Their ball movement was superior to ours and at times they cut us up with relative ease. As they will do to a lot of other teams. Thank god for Tommy Mac. What they lacked was the willingness to work hard enough to get the win. They are a fairly lazy side defensively. If they can rectify that, and get their forward line actually working together as a unit, they can certainly play finals this year. Stevie J needs a serious talking to by the coaches after that performance. There's no way he could've been instructed to be that selfish. i do agree that we can play a lot better. The fact we weren't near our best for large portions and still managed to win against (what I consider to be) a quality opponent is a big step forward.

Clarry well deserved. Very likeable kid too which doesn't hurt. If Carlton had won it would've gone to Weitering, but they didn't, so it didn't. -

Dogs is certainly the most likely where you will fall down. No doubt they were good on the weekend and their skill execution at times is unbelievable, but Freo were deplorable. The game potentially provided a false reading on where the Dogs are at. They may sneak into the top 4 but 5-8 seems a lot more likely. They will have off days and lack the experienced key defensive stocks to win a premiership.
