By doom and gloom merchants like you. We've already signed 3 new coaches, Mahoney said they interviewed 5 for senior assistant. Which coaches we've approached have turned us down? Names?

Interested in player management, not coaching.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE
bing181 replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
With the year he had, he would have finished in the top 10 of OUR B n F. Which is, I believe, the point here. -
No single player of any ilk is going to lift us dramatically from near the bottom of the ladder.
-
Cross is a delisted FA, for which trading opens on November 1. Referred to by Mahoney. As for the rest, not sure what part of "Trade period ends Oct 25" isn't clear. Things will only start happening later in that last week, especially the tough deals. And Pick 2 for xxx is going to be a tough deal.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

Are there any Dees players who managed anything like these figures this year? Season Highlights 2013 27 disps (16 kicks 11 hballs), 3 marks, 4 tackles and a goal in Rd 21 17-pt loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium (18 Aug 2013) 25 disps (20 kicks 5 hballs), 6 marks, 6 tackles and a goal in Rd 18 22-pt loss to Fremantle at Patersons Stadium (27 Jul 2013) 25 disps (16 kicks 9 hballs), 4 marks, 4 tackles and 2 goals in Rd 17 2-pt win over Geelong at AAMI Stadium (21 Jul 2013) 21 disps (17 kicks 4 hballs) and 6 marks in Rd 16 27-pt loss to Collingwood at the MCG (12 Jul 2013) 21 disps (16 kicks 5 hballs), 6 marks and 4 tackles in Rd 15 6-pt loss to West Coast at AAMI Stadium (6 Jul 2013) 25 disps (17 kicks 8 hballs), 7 tackles and a goal in Rd 11 77-pt loss to Sydney at AAMI Stadium (8 Jun 2013) 21 disps (17 kicks 4 hballs), 4 marks and 2 goals in Rd 9 1-pt win over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium (26 May 2013) 26 disps (14 kicks 12 hballs), 8 marks and 2 goals in Rd 7 135-pt win over GWS at Skoda Stadium (12 May 2013) 21 disps (15 kicks 6 hballs), 7 marks, 5 tackles and a goal in Rd 5 32-pt loss to Carlton at the MCG (27 Apr 2013) -
According to Mahoney, he made a presentation for the position, so hard to see how that could be the case.

Nah. If player X chooses team Y over us, it just means that team Y is a better match for their requirements. No biggy. Every club is different. Every player is different. Heck, every player sees every club differently - a dead-end club to one player is a golden opportunity to another. A team to finish your career at is not necessarily the one to get your career started at. etc. etc. For me though, the biggest reality is that very few clubs are going to be releasing A-grade 22 y.o. mids - especially when the top picks in the draft after Boyd are all mids. So, we're asking them to give away a young mid for ... a young mid. Tricky to make that fly, for any club.
-
Like who? Examples please, of players we want/need, but who have gone to other clubs.
-
If we keep Magner, he has to be upgraded, so that would be one (low) pick used. They could also be looking at upgrading Clisby. Clearing the decks. Again.
-
This is where it all falls apart. There isn't a "Trade and draft rubbish rumours" thread nor a "Trade and draft guaranteed-to-be-true rumours" thread, nor even a "Trade draft rumours-we-all-agree-with" thread. They're just rumours, pure and simple. There's always the "next unread topic" button.
-
So? Not all players want to go to all clubs. If Geelong was a possibility for him, why look elsewhere? Though he would have had a lot more game time at Melbourne ...
-
Wouldn't hold my breath. Suspect that this is as much about letting him go without having to pay out his contract as anything. If anyone wants to take him off our hands, we're probably already in front.
-
Didn't see that coming, he only re-signed comparatively recently. Clearly, more going on than we know about, in spite of our best efforts in the Rumour Mill thread ...
-
Just don't get the doom and gloom. The problem with getting a Pick 2 worthy player to the MFC has little or nothing to do with the MFC and everything to do with clubs not wanting to release those kinds of players. Unless I've missed something and Rockfield, Shuey, Swallow etc. have all found new homes that aren't the Dees?
-
Not fussed at all about the current state of play, and as some have already mentioned, not even sure that this whole "trade pick 2" isn't a ruse to prise out other options. The chance of ANY club releasing the kind of player that Pick 2 warrants are close to zero - it would be like us releasing Frawley or Garland. Or to put it another way, I'll be surprised if there are any/many trades involving that level of player that go through. But certainly not going to start whipping myself if (oh the misery) we end up taking Pick 2 in the draft as opposed to trading it. Win win.

... not forgetting self-flagellation. Par for the course around here. Woe is us.

Don't let a little matter of truth get in the way of a good Demonland discussion. -
Quiet? Not sure what you were expecting? Trade period ends Oct 25. I would be saving appraisals until then, no? A lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

Possible to post anything at all without including '[censored]'? -
Don't think much will happen in the short term, Viney commented that there would be a kind of speed-dating session on the first day, so presumably will follow on from that. Also, suspect that we may need to wait to see what we get for Sylvia before we commit too much. But ... could be very wrong on both counts.

He does write well, but also, after xx years in football admin, is able to contribute a P.O.V. from the inside. Some of his historical insights were interesting/revealing. Says something about him though: he was always a CEO operating mainly from the PR/marketing side, and perhaps not surprising that he has taken up the pen. -
Essendon has been mentioned.

We already handed over Cale Morton, what more could they want?
