  1. Don't let a little matter of truth get in the way of a good Demonland discussion.
  2. Quiet? Not sure what you were expecting? Trade period ends Oct 25. I would be saving appraisals until then, no? A lot of water to go under the bridge yet.
  3. Possible to post anything at all without including '[censored]'?
  4. Don't think much will happen in the short term, Viney commented that there would be a kind of speed-dating session on the first day, so presumably will follow on from that. Also, suspect that we may need to wait to see what we get for Sylvia before we commit too much. But ... could be very wrong on both counts.
  5. He does write well, but also, after xx years in football admin, is able to contribute a P.O.V. from the inside. Some of his historical insights were interesting/revealing. Says something about him though: he was always a CEO operating mainly from the PR/marketing side, and perhaps not surprising that he has taken up the pen.
  6. We already handed over Cale Morton, what more could they want?
  7. West Coast star Luke Shuey attracts plenty of interest from Victorian-based clubs
  8. Viney said Melbourne’s second selection was still potentially up for trade. “It’s a super attractive pick, so there’s been quite a bit of interest in that and we’ve had quite a bit of discussions with clubs,” he said. “We rate that pick really highly, so won’t be trading away lightly. Either way, if it’s on the table, certainly [we’ll look at doing a deal], but we won’t be giving it away for a bag of chips. “But it’ll be a good player or good players and that’ll help, otherwise we’ll go to the draft and add some exciting talent to add to the young guys we’ve already drafted. .... “We’ve interviewed some of those guys and particularly those guys who we think we’ve got in the pick two mix. “This is probably the third or fourth time we’ve spoken to them, so we’ve got a really good handle on some of the personalities, but it’s good to speak some of the guys we haven’t seen as much.”
  9. It's an important difference, simply because he's (a lot) younger than FA players. FA players are usually looking at their last contract, and as such, are not really interested in taking a long-term view of their future, or of the club they go to. Thus, clubs that are at/near the top of the ladder will always be more attractive. If a player like Sylvia moves from a club like Melbourne, it will always be to a club that will play in finals. Otherwise, he might as well stay.
  10. I don't know that that we're at a point of no return, as it's still early days. But it certainly seems we're at a point we're it's becoming obvious that the "big" clubs and the "premiership window open clubs" will pick off the cream of the FA players - through the FA players' own choice of course. Rivers to Geelong. Sylvia to Freo etc. Whether or not the clubs not in that category will be able to kick up enough of a fuss to get something done remains to be seen. Equalisation anyone?
  11. Yet you still seem to find time for multiple posts across almost every open thread.
  12. Sylvia apparently seen in Perth, and mentioned on 6PR as attracting interest from Freo. Anyone have anything?
  13. Everyone has a breaking point.
  14. You're a muppet. At least get your insults correct. Or try to. (Worst thread on Demonland at the moment?)
  15. Breaks your heart. It's so hard to find players who can do that, and when we get one ...
  16. Even if this was true, the primary determinant re compo is the terms of the contract (salary, length). It's why we got so much for Scully (OK, not FA, but similar principal), and so little for Moloney.
  17. https://sslcam.news.com.au/cam/authorise?channel=pc&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.heraldsun.com.au%2fsport%2fafl%2fjosh-mahoney-is-melbournes-nw-football-operations-boss%2fstory-fni5f91a-1226726391782 JOSH Mahoney has won the race for Melbourne's vacant manager of football operations job. Mahoney, 35, will oversee list management, recruiting, player welfare, medical and football administration -- reporting directly to chief executive Peter Jackson.
  18. All we need now is a Stanislavski vs Lee Strasberg thread.
  19. Agree with that. I just don't know how realistic Pick 2 for Star Player X is. Not to mention, this is hopefully the last time we'll have a pick right at the pointy end of the draft, and suspect that with the long term in mind, we'll use it on a young gun.
  20. But could be touch and go ...
  21. Let's not have yet another thread destroyed by one belligerent poster. Responding to C&B only fuels the fire.
  22. Well spotted. Keep 'em coming. Looks like if we wanted him, we'd have to join the queue.
  23. Not according to studies such as this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2963322/?tool=pubmed " ... physiological adaptations from heat acclimation include reduced oxygen uptake at a given power output, muscle glycogen sparing, reduced blood lactate at a given power output, plasma volume expansion, improved myocardial efficiency, and increased ventricular compliance, and enhanced force generation in the soleus muscle. Our observed increase in maximal oxygen uptake could be mediated by plasma volume expansion, improved myocardial efficiency, and increased ventricular compliance, which would allow larger end-diastolic volume."
  24. Crawl back with tail between legs time? (though would think GWS would jump in the pre-season draft if he ended up there).
