  1. Players have taken less $ to try and keep a team together etc. What would stop them doing this to get some great picks, with the understanding their next contract will reward them?
  2. You can't turn sand into gold. McLean, Moloney, TJ, Bruce, and Green have all missed substantial footy. If I were coming to the Club, this would be attractive.
  3. Wasn't the context of the comment Yze fearing he'd be delisted? I think you're on the wrong track here.
  4. You're kidding me. After missing a fair bit of footy early on, Wheatley has been very good in the latter half of this season. A guy who can get the ball to a teammate sixty metres away on a regular basis is very valuable. To utilise him better he needs to be released to a wing though, rather than being stuck in the backline.
  5. I agree with Real Demon. Fwiw, do you think Clarkson was the man the Hawks wanted all along? I imagine they wanted to take a look at whoever was out there, and get the best man for the job. The 'process' helps you find out who that person is.
  6. Totally. While I believe we need to look towards the Bate & McLean era for our next flag, we simply can't delist everyone. If we're going to keep someone as more experienced fringe depth, it may as well be Holland - he gives us something we don't have, and has been in very good form. However, he'll be the wrong side of 30 and it won't be a tragey if he's no longer with us next year.
  7. I don't think you're right. Awhile back, I had a flip through one of those AFL liftouts with team lists and a brief profile of all players at each Club. It listed the delistings from the previous year, and from memory the average was ~4. I'm not sure how you can say that bringing in nine players is not out of the ordinary, and I can't see it happening. Seven would be huge.
  8. While he still has some shocking clangers, I think Godfrey's disposal has improved somewhat. However, the fact that you label him 'far from the worst at hitting a target...' is hardly glowing praise, all things considered
  9. I read an article in the paper along the same lines. I can't remember who it was, but I think it was a Carlton supporter talking about the upcoming Essendon clash.
  10. Agreed - started playing some decent footy after a pretty poor season. I think injuries have certainly taken a toll this season, but so to has the fact that without many of our big-name mids, McLean has been the one to tag. Rhino's right in that next year will be a big one. I'm confident McLean can be an AFL-grade mid, but I'm not sure quite how good he can be. He's still one of my favourite players, but some of the things he does are quite frustrating - in particular, his 'precision' passing over relatively short distances; too often he stabs the ball quite low and allows it to be intercepted by an opponent. Agreed. Unbelieable. Pickett's goals were cheap (Shaw gave him one on a platter, and from memory he was given another easy one) and I thought he was one of the worst. /me looks at your sig Yep, looks like you're right No he isn't Ward, Brown, Holland, Godfrey, etc have all copped more flak.
  11. I think the role of captain can be overrated by some. By that I mean that if you're a leader you're a leader, regardless of whether you're 'in the leadership group' or front the media regularly etc. Who's put their hand up this year? Past performance is a good indicator of the future. This was from a thread a few days ago (that no one replied to): That Neitz is considering stepping down as Captain is old news - he's said previously that he wants to hand over the reins before he retires. Interesting to hear that he's annointed McDonald though.
  12. Cameron didn't say we would not trade Yze, but simply that we'd not be dumping him as he has a contract. IF a decent trade came up, I'm sure we'd take it. However... ...it doesn't sound like he's going to be on too many Clubs' wish lists.
  13. Right up there with White and Neitz's milestones
  14. Yeah, I too don't understand. If you're on your last legs and aren't in our best squad...
  15. Absolutely. My favourite moment would have to have been when we were playing WCE and he kissed his brother.
  16. Agreed. I'm disappointed Ferg is playing, but I guess more than two changes to a winning side was always unlikely. EDIT: Ferg might be okay providing the 'chop out' to Carroll and Holland - he's got the courage to back pack into a pack etc.
  17. I seem to remember talk of ND's appearance on one of these shows a while back.
  18. I read that about Bruce, but I haven't heard much on McLean.
  19. I have noticed new members get attacked a little, but it's like joining any group; if you come in and make waves for the wrong reasons, people aren't going to be too receptive. I do find that how 'well known' you are tends to dictate how many replies etc you get - particularly when I was newer, I found I'd make a reply staying XYZ and no one would be interested in engaging. A page later someone might essentially make a carbon copy of my earlier reply, and people would start discussing XYZ. Cliques are everywhere. I'd suggest people who are new to this - or any forum - lurk around the site a bit and actually read other people's comments and get a feel for the vibe. Some new posters tend to creating new threads on every MFC thing they've got in their heads because they've found an outlet. Chances are people here have already thought of these issues, and posted on them. This is a humourous take on posting - http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting Here's an anecdote: You posted up re: MFC fans needing to get to games, and I said you were probably preaching to the choir. You quoted my post and swore at how 'retarded' posters on here were ;o I saw another thread where you told people to 'quit their crying' because they objected to the idea of wishing a player was injured ;o You have copped some flak from a few people, but if you acted like that when you'd just joined a circle of friends, new workplace, or whatever, you'd probably be excluded pretty quickly there too. Anyhow, I don't think I 'play the man' - I certainly don't mean to. People should probably try and be more tolerant of the 'newbie' forum posters, but it's natural to get frustrated with some behaviours - particularly when they then become abusive etc.
  20. As bWell said. Clement wasn't playing last time. In past years, Clement has played on Robertson - and done well.
  21. Last time we played Collingwood I walked up, and was able to find okay seats (for 2) in the AFL members area. You should get an email from the AFL re: AFL membership and tickets every week (or is it two?). There's also a branch of the AFL.com.au site that is updated every morning re: AFL m/ship ticket availability for matches. From memory, a few letters were available for walk-up.
  22. Was unfortunate we had so many serious/on-going injuries to decent players back then. From memory Prymke, Schwarz, Tingay, Lyon, G. Lovett, etc.
