Why the heck did we recruit Brian Royal back!?
dees189227 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Today I sat there at the game and for the 1st time I actually thought our midfield looks so slow and did think why is Royal coach. People are right when they said he stuffed up the backline that Wellman improved dramatically and when we got rawlings whose idea was it to move him to midfield. We should have cleaned out everyone and started frash or moved him to a admin job like they did with Josh. We need someone younger and fresher but im not sure who. Maybe another robert harvey to help coach the midfield. -
Im not fully blaming mark neeld. The other new coaches at least have inherited some some experienced players and a superstar at there clubs. Lets face it we dont have a superstar player yet and has mark said in his presser a new coach has come in for a reason and you get 3 yeasr to show how you have developed the younger players. This is his only 3rd game. If nothing has improved next year then questions can be asked. he has to get this game plan through to the players. he has inherited a club that has not developed . the last 3 years. When we sacked Dean I wanted neeld as coach because I knew he would be hard on them and he has come from a superstar club that won a flag and also worked under Mick. My thing is I wish he would play Howe as a foward more and give Mitch a hand who just gets double teamed. And after today when he said the team moral is fine its the supporters he is worried about I thought dont worry about us, that's not your job, focus on getting the boys up and winning. I have faith in him and im not going to judge him after 3 games. This wouldnt be a picnic for him either.
-
Well thats one good piece of news. It would be nice to finish it off with a win. I think the club needs a bit of a morale lift.
-
Im rapt to see Tapscott back. Would love to see him and Magner start in the middle. I hope Bate isnt the sub again. Good on Neeld for having the guts to drop green. Im sure he will bounce back. Maybe Jordie could start as sub. geez I feel this is our real chance and im just hoping for a win.
-
Im thinking with all the crap Neeld copped last week he held back. Im sure behing closed doors and at training he will let the team know what they did wrong. Truth be told I loved his presser last week. At least we have a coach that is just honest. I saw a bit of his presser but had to turn off because his left eye kept twitching and it was freaky. Mark was on 3aw today and he is just going to stick to his game plan that he believes in and knows its along road ahead. My god I just hope we can beat richmond. A win would really make a difference and let the focus go to another club like richmond.

Neeld I reckon this week against the tiggers needs to isolate Clark 1 out. he has the strength and height to win a one on one contest. The trouble is he always has to compete against 2 . Against brisbane our foward line looked to crowded and everyone was jumping at the same time. Sit him in the foward line 1 out and he should do well.
-
The good news is Richmond are currently being thrashed by the pies. I reckon if we can win then suddenly all the focus will turn to Hardwick. I rekcon Frawley can hold Riewoldt. Maybe Royal could prove he is a good midfield coach by working out how to shut down Martin, Cotchin and Deldio and there other runners. I think we need to bring Tapscott back because he and Magner in there will at least provide some toughness. Tapscott doesnt back down at all and he was at least 1 positive last year. Hopefully Clark can stand up again and it would be nice to see Jamar smash Maric. I reckon we can win but the players confidence is so low.
-
I seriously reckon our players just arent smart enough for this gameplan. Im not sure how neeld lifts there confidence levels and I hope he has people trying to help his confidence because I reckon its dropped and he will probably be doubting himself. Maybe they need one of those sessions where everyone just hashes it all out and clear the air. The thing is Neeld still doesnt know our best 22. I didnt see the game because i dont have foxtel and I knew it was a waste of time going somewhere to watch it. I have no issue getting in Brown and Rawlings because at least they are fresh out of the game but the midfield seems to be an issue and I would have thought in todays world you would need a fresh retired player not someone that played decades ago. Why did Royal stay on. Couldnt we have given him another role like we did with Josh and get in someone good. lts going to be a very quiet flight back and a long on in that. If you were a supporter on the same flight I would be finding it hard not to say something. prepare for another week of scrutiny. I just hope the eagles smash the gws next week like they did to us.
-
Yeah because being friends with the players worked. Remember his 1st two games he got thrashed as well and Id like to think in Neelds 3rd year he wont be getting beaten by a record margin such as geelong last year. Lets not forget wc played off in a prelim last year. We are no where near finals and its going to suck big time but he has to get the players realisng its going to be hard work this year. I wonder how he will be in his presser.
-
Do you reckon Neeld just wants to push open the emergency exit on the plane and jump out. meeld would still be no closer on who is our best 22. Just play the players that want to be there and will know give 100%. Its time for Neeld to rebuild from the bottom. Maybe our players arent smart enough to learn the gameplan.
-
Im assuming Clark will ruck today at some stage. He will have to. Jamar cant do it on his own all day. Its 30 degrees over there. Disappointed Bate is sub again. We need amiracle to win today. Just hope they go out there and man up on there players and give it there all.

Anyone see the Mark Knight cartton in todays paper. of Jim sitting in a chair with a board with everything written down of all our issues and Jim saying Ive only been gone a week. He is very creative that guy. Had a chuckle. So glad Jim isnt here to see this mess. I mean that in the way of Jim still being sick and I know he would have stepped in and taken over.
-
Davey had to be dropped. I know there will be people out there who will have whispers about him and being the leak still but we know how easily sucked in Davey can get on the footy field and there is no way he is in the right headspace to play. Can you imagine the eagles getting stuck into him. I wonder if Beamer had that groin injury last week and took it into the brisbane game just like he did against geelong last year. He certainly didnt injure it last week in the game. I hope he isnt being selfish again. I like the ins especially Pettard but it would have been nice to see Couch play but I guess they wanted Bennell for a little experience. He could be the sub.
-
Its like the universe made things will be ok for melbourne when Jim is here but once he goes [censored] will hit the fan. Seriously what else can go wrong. Now we will have to ditch our sponser and we dont have second 1 yet so we are back to nothing. Cameron and Don have to stand strong now and get us out of this. Im glad we have someone so headstrong as coach. But we could look back on this and it could be the making of us. I fear for saturday but stranger things have happened. Its probably a blessing we are playing in perth so we are out of this state.

AFL Employee leaked info about indigenous players
dees189227 replied to BarrassHarrass's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow so Davey got named. I wonder where Gerard got that from because he seems to be a pretty smart sports journo and im disappointed he went with this . I see Davey's statement so I have no reason to doubt him. But now if he does get dropped this week because of last weeks poor performance people will still talk. Its probably a good thing we are playing in Perth in the sense at least we get the team and Neeld out of the state. Just hope this gets sorted. Glad Jim isnt here to see this unravelling. -
Look im not reading to much into this. Moloney was on footy classified on one year and I didnt think he was a great speaker especially when you compare him to Trengove or Grimes and they are younger. I remember that now when he said about becoming a professional nfl player. Brent should focus more about getting the ball and how to overcome getting heavily tagged. Every part of our club got hammered this week, the players, coach, Garry Lyon came out and had a crack back at Malthouse and Richo about them having a go at presenting jumpers on the ground. I couldnt believe that Malthouse said the players shpuldnt have done the guard of honour and not wore the blazers. Wearing blazers didnt affect the result on the weekend. Sorry are you trying to tell me that when Lou Richards goes or one of there other legends the collingwood players wont do a guard of honour. Sorry Mick Jim actually meant somehting to these players. I htink Mark Neeld will be glad to get out of the state.

I wish I had foxtel so I could have seen it. But it sounds like the way I thought it would. He scares me and Ive never met him. Nick Maxwell said yesterday on game day that you know where you stand with Mark Neeld. He tells you honestly and you know where you stand. I think thats a good thing. At least you know where you are at. I put it in another thread but some of these players are going to get a massive wake up call, I suspect on the news or even footy classified they may show some footage especially about the grant thomas stuff. Was the impact of Jim Stynes and his passing put to Mark Neeld? Interesting on twitter that people have commented on how they love his honesty and there is some tension in the room. Wow looking foward to footy classified as well now to see what Hutchy puts to Grant. I suspect Garry will have a bit to say as well. So did Mark ring Grant and say that story wasnt true. Imagine how that phone conversation would have gone. They are both strong people who dont back down. Im glad he is in charge of our club and if the players cant handle him and his ways well I guess they better move on. Interesting to see what he does at selection this week. He may want some experienced players going to Perth.
-
Look the thing is Neeld has come from a club that had high expectations, a load of money and was one of the first clubs to get great facilities. His old club had superstars and played in finals. He has now come to a club that hasnt seen finals actions in years and has a playing list that really deosnt have a superstar. We know Trengove and Grimes and hopefully Watts will become one but outside int he football world no one rats pur list and fair enough to after saturday. But I have faith in Mark Neeld. He isnt going to become a miracle worker in his 1st season. It will take time and think these list of players will get a wake up call because Mark Neeld scares the hell out of me and I dont even know the guy. I wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of him. It took the saints have a season to get Ross Lyons game plan in his 1st season, Malthouse didnt win a flag until 10 years later, Just have faith that Neeld knows what he is doing and it will work. MAybe some of our players just dont get it and it will take time. By the way can someone put a run down on what Neeld has to say on the couch tonight and if possible provide a link to the interview. Thanks .

Look I have faith in neeld in in the long run I think he will turn us around. We arent as good as we think or hope to be. Dont forget Baileys first 2 games we were thrashed by more than 100 points. Also Neeld wouldnt be used to losing having been at collingwood. He has been around a successful team including a premiership one. He would have hated today. You could tell in the press conference he was seething and I think there will be some honest home truths told. Interesting to see how many changes he will make. But did have a laugh when he said not on your life when asked if the same 22 would play next week.
-
Well just watching the news you could tell by what Mark Neeld said he was seething. Basically said no way in hell will the same 22 be there next week which I wouldnt expect. Id expect Davey to be out, is Pettard available because he could be handy in the foward line instead of just bombing crap into Mitch Clark and expecting him to take marks. Tappscott we need as well. Moloney had a shocker but I expect him to bounce back and Green well maybe give him one more game. Im sorry but I still back Bate in but start him from the beginning and not as a sub.

Melbourne v Brisbane - Pre-Match Discussion
dees189227 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Im just rapt to see Grimes out there. On paper it looks like a good team. What do we think about the 1 min applause rather then the silence. I noticed thats what we are doing tomorrow. I like it and Ive seen how they have done it over in the premier league and obviously last week at croak park. The 1 min silence can be spine tingling stuff but I think the applause is a nice touch and I guess we are applauding for everything JIm did and the person he was. Anyway Im excited about footy being back. -
Melbourne and the Football World mourn Jimmy Stynes
dees189227 replied to hardtack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think it's seriously going to hit me that Jim is no longer with us until round 1 then round 4. I always used to look over and check to see if Jim was sitting in the area he sat at, at the G then if he was there I thought he was ok and relieved to see him. After games when I left I would normally walk past him. Now when I look he will be absent. I always hated listening to the news on the radio just in case he had passed but weirdly enough when I heard on SEN i wasnt surprised. I went to work thought about Jim and came home and watched sunrise that I taped that morning. The stupid thing is I knew Jim had passed, I had watched all the news networks and it wasnt until I was watching sunrise later that night and Kochie turned to Mel and said I have some sad news JIm Stynes has passed away and Mel just gasped put her hands over her mouth and said oh no. It hit me more then because I actually saw someone react to it. Stupid story I know but thats how it affected me. Im still trying to get through yesterdays and todays papers. Its just amazing how much he had an impact on everyones lives. I met him heaps of times and he was just awesome. Words will never be enough for what he did to our club. Then watching The Footy Show tonight and seeing Garry do what he did. He was just amazing and I have no idea how he managed to get through that. When he mentioned the photo I was expecting a photo of the two of them and i thought gosh Jim wouldnt look to good but when I saw the hands together I just teared up. What a beautiful photo that was. Well done Garry you spoke brilliantly. -
Just a technical question. When Sylvia is due to return will he be forced to sit out a week for his suspension game he was meant to miss round 1. Would Mark Neeld be that harsh. I know missing 6 weeks is harsh enough but if he comes straight back in then he wouldnt have copped the punishment. By the way I dont want that to happen. We will miss Sylvia on our foward line and seriously seeing the footage on the news I cant believe he sustained such a serious injury from that.

Port Adelaide v Melbourne NAB Cup Week 4
dees189227 replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
Poor Neeldy now he will have no idea on his round 1 team. He may just have to draw names out of a hat. We know we cant win in adelaide. Its not a great result but im not to worried. In 2 weeks we will be a different team and pumped for round 1. Well I hope so anyway.Geez I hope so. Just 1 question. Were we to Mitch conscious and just kept bombing it in the foward line to him. I suspect oppposition teams will just double team him and again we will struggle to find a target. But I guess that a job for Leigh Brown and Mitch to work that out.
