I've got no interest in blowing any remaining cap space to sign this guy, but can't believe we'd go in the paper saying "we'll pick him if he wants to play for us". How about saying "we're keeping our options open and reserve our right to draft him if he's there at our pick" in the hope that he either comes around (preferably at a reasonable price) or it hopefully poisons the well by either influencing what the Blues do in the draft or even better convincing them to offer him more money that he's not worth.

Does anyone seriously think Martin would be the player he is today if we'd drafted him? He'd have ODed on sleeping pills with Daniel Connors then rammed a chopstick through somebody's head after being revived. Meanwhile, have we ever drafted somebody post-jail? Brayshaw's third place is the most overrated stat around. We mock Brownlow votes for being ridiculously slanted to midfielders and know full well he wasn't in the top 30 players in the league last year let alone top three but still get caught up in comparing his seasons like there's something new to be learnt. We all know he was ordinary this year, don't need umpires to tell me.

And I bet you first bounce Round 1, 2020 he's lining up as first ruck for Casey not as a forward. If we're going to have a Reserves team it needs to be used for development, not to try and win an increasingly meaningless cup.
