  1. exactly right as I said recently, we have had over 40 blokes go through the list in the last 7 years and have not produced a single star player (apologies Clark, Jones, Frawley etc) it is obviously a lot more to do with development than recruiting as if
  2. I agree We are not as bad as we seem A dozen occasions this year we lost matches because we 'dropped out' of a match for 20-30 minutes and conceded a bunch of unanswered goals. Particularly in the 2nd half of the year we matched our opponents for the better part of most games and generally got the ball inside 50 and kicked scores of somewhere near adequacy. We had some tough injury issues. We are inexperienced and most of the list is capable of going up a peg. There will surely be some movement in trade week. We still have pick 2. We are not a complete basketcase.
  3. the brownlow is a measure of nothing. What kind of idiotic system rewards 3 players out of 44. Not to mention it is awarded by the cretins. If you lose a game, at best one of your players is getting a 1 or a 2, except under highly exceptional circumstances. So if you don't win matches you don't get votes, simple as that.
  4. so refreshing to have a kid get some serious runs on the board in his first year I really, really hope his endeavour is something that winds up setting a standard for the group
  5. couldn't agree more nobody respects us because we appear to prefer to be handed things rather than work for them - and even when we are handed them we stuff it up we need to change the complexion of the club big time
  6. I don't know why ppl talk about the AFL mistreating us They have been good to us in recent years with payouts, soft fixtures and the generous Scully compensation
  7. the position you are drafted at has nothing to do with it whatsoever
  8. so basically you are saying 'who cares it is not important?'
  9. how could you have loved a bloke that occupied a spot and hardly ever had any impact as we lost match after match. I don't get it. Miller's popularity seems to have blossomed with time, I don't remember a lot of praise for him when he was playing.
  10. that's the only bit you needed to say. The bit that discusses footy. FWIW it is a fair point
  11. is that a good example of adhering to the code of conduct Nasher? a bloke says a guy is good to coach us because he is used to disappointment and I'm the peanut
  12. 1) yeah i'll cop that 2) stand by that 3) I never liked/defended to co-captain appointment 4) just because a bloke has been around a long time it doesn't automatically make him a good leader in summary the previous regime was a shocker, but not everything that gets blamed on them is fair
  13. well Buckley is in the top 6 at this stage and Hird has got into trouble but it's pretty clear the bloke can coach I think up until Clarkson won a flag it was something like 10 flags in a row to coaches who had captained their clubs as players
  14. nope, elite players are 8-9 in all categories, that's what makes them elite
  15. well I've just said it in the previous post. Our history of betting the farm on young talent has been a disaster. It symbolises our ineptitude as a club and i wish we would stop doing it.
  16. LOL congratulations the finest comment yet. If you were a loser of a player, come to Melbourne to coach our losers.
  17. and hypnotised everybody in the MFC community enough for him to dine out on it for years afterwards while doing nothing
  18. You are living in a fantasy world, the world of children's books that say 'try your best and you can achieve anything' the real world insists that in order to win it is not good enough to just try unless of course you enjoy have an ineffective CHF for nine years and the club winning one final in that time if that that type of effort/result is good enough for you, you must love being a melbourne supporter. Personally I can't stand it. For thinking that playing results have anything at all to do with leadership and coaching ability. yeah OK so that's why Voss, Buckley and Hird were all made senior coaches of the clubs they captained. Paul Roos was 7 time all-australian. He has a history of achievement and that's why we are so pumped to have him at the club. Miller is the exact opposite. There is obviously a huge relationship between what you did on the field and what you can do in the box.
  19. wtf r u talking about I have never defended a thing
  20. this is garbage. Anybody can put in effort. We need people putting in effort and getting results from those efforts. how can you say 'not a bad return' again, nine seasons, one bnf top ten finish
  21. obvious starting point is to enquire where Essendon finished on the ladder and why is it that they had more wins than the two clubs above them
  22. we've just spent 7 years pillaging the draft and talking up youngsters and it all amounted to dismal failure. Has the club learnt nothing? Why can't we have a little dignity and just keep these kids under our hat and let them develop naturally like most clubs do. Instead we give them Barassi's number, make them co-captains, and use them as marketing tools before they have done anything worthy of the fanfare. it is the epitome of the loser's mentality that has got us where we are today.
  23. and as usual you have nothing of substance to add whatsoever and instead focus on your opinion of other posters. Thanks for nothing. Instead of making comments on other people, which if of zero interest yo anybody reading, do you want to have a crack at explaining how it is a good idea to bring people to the club with a history of failing the MFC, I would love to hear your expert opinion
