  1. If you only ever use people who have done it before you’d eventually run out of options when they’re all senile!! One thing in Watson’s favour he had 5 different coaches, most of them with big weaknesses. We also had Green, Smith, Richo on the committee. So it had a lot of different football voices. I’m sure Ponissi would’ve been a great help, if you’re criticising that you’re just making up arguments.
  2. He’s a shoddy ball user but he does work hard and offer a bit more versatility than some of our mid/forward types. If it’s Tracc out and no Flanders/Windhager in I’d consider it but 3rd round and his salary for years 3 and 4 better be reworked down to a role players number. Happy to spend some cap space up front but no point getting stuck with the back end years.
  3. I don’t know why Scott didn’t overrule him but ultimately Scarlett and Clark both left Geelong. Clark down plays the riff but confirms he was moved to the midfield when he’s clearly a natural attacking half back. “My personal relationship with Matthew Scarlett, there’s no animosity between us two. We can easily have a conversation and get a long really well,” he told SEN Afternoons. “Like I’ve said many times, he’s a really good coach and was a really good player at a very successful club. “He runs a pretty tight ship back there and I had to go away and work on a few things in my game. He was one that was really honest with me at times. “In the end, I moved up into the midfield and played a different role. I couldn’t quite break into the midfield at that time.
  4. Attempted to ruin Jordan Clark’s career by refusing to play him and didn’t get on with the other coaches. The next year Scott implemented a team first policy among his assistants and won the flag. He’s a local footy coach with a champion players resume.
  5. Seems like the Pies will replace him with Jack Buller, ascending 24 year old with the size to ruck. The kind of player we should be targeting if we had a competent list management team.
  6. 3 second 20m is not quick for a 183cm player. It restricts his ability to break lines or pressure as a half back or half forward. It’s adequate for a midfielder but teams - none more so than the team we just hired a coach from - just keep getting quicker.
  7. Backline: May, Disco, Petty, Lever, Derksen, (Adams) Forwards: Mihocek, JVR, Melk (Jeffo, Kentfield) I guess one of May or Lever goes.
  8. I think we’d be willing to pay a chunk of Tracc’s salary for more draft capital. It might be a weak draft but still better than no draft. If for instance we could get 6 and Flanders for Tracc and 23 I’d be happy with that.
  9. Just a lazy 3 more years of Jack and 5 of Clarry to work around, but I feel like King has been hired to coach Pickett, Langford, Lindsay, Windsor. Geelong's game plan doesn't rely on great kicking either. Clean hands and great running make the kicks far easier to hit.
  10. I do like him as depth. Speed, aggression, good overhead. Could impact at both ends. Reminds me of Ben Long. But any more than that is overrating his games and projecting on a decent preseason (before - knee blow up)
  11. The problem is you lose a 22 yo with 65 games unless you spin that in to a trade for a similar level player you’re off to the draft where a really good outcome is a similar player. The likely outcome is a worse player. AMW was a borderline afl player before his knee blew up. Non afl level tank. Very poor decision maker with average skills. He’s fun. He’s aggressive. 2 attributes we do need. But that alone doesn’t make you afl standard.
  12. Those are the 2 clubs to stand out. Adelaide should bring in a workman like tall to play forward/ruck, free up Thilthorpe and then Tracc effectively replaces Tex as a forward/mid attacking weapon.
  13. I didn’t confuse the player but yes I confused the spelling. It’s all a bit hear, their and everywhere
  14. He said he drives to Geelong every day, Casey a couple of times a week will be a breeze by comparison. Anyone who’s done the Geelong trip repeatedly with all the west gate tunnel works knows it’s hell on earth.
  15. Maybe it’s the shaved head, big work ethic and talk about coding a game but he actually reminds me a lot of Goody except he doesn’t have the baggage of 5 years of being hounded by the media and the baggage with our players. He seems self assured and a good team player. Played a nice straight bat when it came to changes with the playing list and team staff which is sensible. But you can’t expect to play Geelong style footy with this Melbourne list and every coach wants their guys as assistants, whether it’s this year or next he’ll start to reshape the club.
  16. He’s not quick, in fact his lack of pace is a big worry. 200 is very steep. 100 games would be a great result for Wade. They didn’t have huge depth, they had Aliir and Wade, kept both because you need 2 back ups in a flag window. And it’s hard to convince guys to go up their on a one year minimum chips deal. In hindsight they probably could’ve convinced someone like Tomlinson to go back for a year and released Wade a year early.
  17. Not sure about that. If they’re after Curnow they’ll need to shed salary and get picks, doesn’t mean they have to go direct to Carlton.
  18. Unless the club has completely lost it they’d do a thorough medical but it’s hard for even a thorough medical to get a full picture. If it’s a clear pass or fail that’s easy, but back injuries are often murky.
  19. Hardwick's comments about him having a back injury so bad that he probably shouldn't have played at times this year are very interesting. Is that truly the reason why he's fallen behind Alex fricken Davies? With a clean preseason will he start running and playing with more power? Maybe the Suns are worried about the injury and are keen to sell now whilst he has value despite Dimma's claims that he's a valued player?
  20. Caleb has a nice hit up kick in him when he has time to process, his terrible kicks come when he runs in to trouble. Bailey Smith is showing right now how valuable a super quick mid is even if they can’t hit the side of the barn. If - and it’s a decent if - Caleb can become a genuine ball winning mid he should kick it at least as well as Smith. But also that’s why Judd is so important to keep because he has excellent decision making and disposal. King has to find a way to convince him he’ll develop in to a star at Melbourne
  21. Jones was only stoppage coach, with Sam Radford having a big role with the mids and I think we made progress at centre bounces. Not always great at around the ground stoppages. Not sure of the Max relevance, he's still a huge presence around the ground but unless he's taking it out of the ruck his hitouts are all over the shop and have been for years, good luck fixing that for any line coach. Assuming Jones is contracted he won't be going anywhere I'd hope they find another experienced assistant to help him still. Plus King will be hands on with the midfield I'm sure as that's the biggest area for any new coach to put their imprint on. Bassett delivered on what he was really asked to do which was improve our ball movement from the backline. We were miles better this year than last. That came at a cost as we played more assertive. And when the forward/midfield pressure was off it looked bad. It also leaves you more exposed. Our zone never really worked either, but that's a team issue Bassett has actually had more success as a forwards coach, if he stays I hope he's put in that role.
  22. No one is giving us 11 for an uncontracted McVee, be serious people. Early second is the best we can get. King has to go pitch him on moving up the ground in a Geelong style game plan that sees the ball shared quickly and skilfully that suits Judd. Give me 2 years and I’ll have you as the next Max Holmes is the message I’d sell if I was King.
  23. Simpson who is happy with his Whopper franchises and staying in Perth, horse who is burnt out and 2 guys who did the interviews before being overlooked. That’s what has upset you? Everyone in the afl says this is a serious coach. If he fails it’s more than likely because the club failed him, and no guarantee anyone else would’ve succeeded. You can be angry at the club but don’t be angry at a perfectly good choice
  24. Haven’t heard a better name than Bartel for that strategy job. I can’t imagine Kelly leaves the Cats when he’s now likely the senior assistant. Very hard to get anyone out of Geelong once they’re settled down there. But it would be nice if he can grab someone. Chappy linked to Richmond and I suspect King gives him his blessing for a fresh start. We can’t have slow moving Chappy with our backline again. We need to keep the speed of ball movement going. Target lower level assistants from Hawthorn, GWS, Coll, Freo, Brisbane. Get a diverse group together from across a range of good clubs would be ideal.
  25. I do find it funny there’s so much conjecture about us wanting Buckley when the rumour I think is much stronger was that Bevo was a target if he was available. Who do we hire? The guy who’s spent 6 years and 2 grand finals under Bevo
