  1. One of those tickets OD which would allow miles of travel for 1s 8d?
  2. Premature expectation
  3. Don't forget that as recently as 2010 we had a list which many people thought might do very well, the one about which Bruce famously said "They're gonna be something aren't they" (in the growly voice). The kernel is still there and recent re-re-adjustment has been good. It's time to emerge from roaming the wilderness.
  4. Yes, it involves a significant level of fantasy.
  5. Which is about on the money. Sportsbet are offering -33.5 on the Richmond $2.10 line.
  6. He's very recently bought a 35mm Leica (an M3 I think) and has moved to old school silver halide film instead of digital. As well he has expressed an interest in processing the film himself and also printing. I can well understand how he may have less time for footy. The photography does seem for the moment to be an all-abiding passion. OMG he wants to learn about wet-plate photography. He's left out the Theory and Practice of Using a View Camera. At least he'll struggle to find anyone in Melb with any interest in wet-plate education. The View Camera is another matter.
  7. OMG fancy having to stand to watch some footy! With the years it's become less of being a simple and happy spectator of a simple, manly contest and more of paying s'loads to watch a gormless "show". And most of us have lapped it up (but at least we have plastic seats). Sad really.
  8. Many folk live a life which comprises mostly Dots (and are content to do so).
  9. Can also be a term of endearment for someone whose name is Samuel as well as a, sometimes most-enjoyable, edible concoction involving two slices of bread. Sometimes PC gets out of control.
  10. Blicavs is an athlete turned to footy who ran a 8:18.9 3000m two years ago FFS. Max is a kid who played a bit of footy and cricket and basketball, mostly for fun, and who has it all in front of him. Any comparison at this point is just silly. Moreover one is 18 and the other turns 23 next month.
  11. It may well be referred to as a "Challenge" but the sub-text is "It's a travelling carnival of footy".
  12. "I would be very surprised if we did not play the best available to push as a far into the preseason comp as possble." It isn't a comp as such, rather it is some sort of "Carnival": http://www.thefreedictionary.com/carnival My guess is that it falls into the travelling amusement show category.
  13. Yeah, Bennell and Morton came in for the "Bruise-Free" event which didn't aid the cause. I missed all of the second quarter looking for my Carlton-supporting mates which was a fortunate stroke.
  14. Indeed. I'm looking forward to the day when Maserati shall be proud to join us: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maserati_logo.svg
  15. As I understand it stores like Coles, Woolies, KMart etc sell a selected range of club merchandise which is roughly based on demographic. When my kids were young we had to drive to KMart Campbellfield to get Demon stuff. Our local Northcote store had no interest in us. Clearly the selection of Campbellfield as an outlet was not based on any demographic. The choice is entirely the store's. Once at Bi-Lo I bought a Freo bag (as the least-offensive choice). Occasionally an odd item hits the shelves and last year I was lucky enough to secure a Melbourne 2013 AFL Season Limited Edition Collector's Tin (full of coconut cookies). It had a Player List and 2013 Fixture printed on the underside. As you can imagine it is a much-cherished item.
  16. Viv Richie, isn't he the West Indian batsman bloke?
  17. There are a range of performances available on YouTube, all as classy as ever:
  18. "More than a month" would have been preferable.
  19. Well that spoils the fun and takes the gloss off things a bit. Please let it not be true.
  20. Keep Wilkes-Maister to 3 goals and we're home. The betting has not moved since Richo was made Coach with Dees at $2.40. Our last effort at Colonial wasn't too bad at all (apart from the 9 goals to 2 second quarter).
  21. In golf they say "It's not how it's how many". With I 50s it's more "It's not how many (so much) as how". Our I 50s over the past few seasons have not only been relatively-few they have also generally been poor. They are a reflection of the quality of play upfield. Fix how we play and the I 50s will take care of themselves. I'm pretty sure the club still holds the defensive I 50 disposal record from a game against Brisbane (when Bell and Bartram were still with us). The number is 126 but it isn't good to be playing the game in the back half. The Lions had 35 more I 50s.
  22. Quite so, if we'd had some mediocre success under Neeld instead of abject failure the Club might have now been heading towards an inevitable doom. They were the two years of horror we had to have. I can see the blue skies that Bailey was glimpsing.
