I like the under 17 mini draft. What if the AFL introduced a new system. Where each club could nominate any 16/17 year old player.Maybe have a lottery. Similar to what Melb have done with Jack Viney. Give him full access to the club. Train and play him at the VFL level to help him better adapt to AFL football. When it comes time to draft these youngsters they could follow similar father son rules or something. To force clubs to pay market value.

AFL is a contact sport and baseball isn't. I think AFL teams might take inspiration from it...but AFL clubs are slow learners. I'm glad they are finally taking mature aged players rather than pimple faced youth.

A fully fit forward like with Mitch Clark, Jurrah, howe and tippett. Sounds pretty good.

Kurt Tippett is an ideal fit for us. At 202cm he is a pure man mountain. He is 25. Wants to head home to Queensland but I think he's worth having a solid crack at. Might be a long shot but so was Mitch Clark.

we might have a new leadership group this year...but the guys playing in the previous leadership group are still playing. Therefore the Leadership group is not the problem.

I have thought rivers was a problem but i no longer think that. He's a quality asset to the club and team. take away Rivers and you lose experience. Rivers is not the problem. our defence is lacking quality foot disposal. Frawley, Garland and McDonald aren't elite kicks of the ball. They do a lot of the other stuff great though. Strauss was basically rushed back into the side because of his 'elite kicking skills'. All year teams have isolated Grimes and our kicking out of defence as a weak spot. Add on top our poor running midfielders...who cannot spread...you've got a complete disaster and the third worse team in the comp. Dees need to keep the experience of rivers. inject some midfield speed and quality kickers defence. Watts has been a great coming out of defence because of his foot skills and ability to read play. By doing these things we can start to 'hurt teams' on the rebound.

Blease is playing his way into a great contract! His defensive side has massively improved. As has his fitness.

Mongrel has been coached out of the game. It has been replaced with players that are fitter and better skilled than players of old. I'm not saying players of old are soft or current players are better...IT IS-WHAT IT IS. to some respect. Especially with the MRP.

if cloke goes to GWS...can pies get Ablett/Scully like compo ? Because the only way GWS can beat us. is with money...so therefore pies could argue GWS have secured Cloke...the same way they secured Scully...by dangling a big bucket of cash. and not under free agency rules.

hawkins was considered overweight and unfit when he started at the cats. for a few years too.

I remember last year when Mitch Clark released a statement through the Fremantle football club about wanting to go back to WA ? I think i woke up the next day and he was a demon I'm suprised no Journalist has brought that up with him this year.

What good does having the money sitting in the bank account do us? Try looking at it a different way. Football clubs are in the business of winning premerships. What he is worth isn't the issue. We have money to burn. We need more talent. Nathan Jones is our only genuine mid at the moment. I'd take B-Grade any day. Sucessful clubs seem to find a way to keep talent. At the end of the season we need to go buy the best available talent...

I find Howe's set shot kicking for goal is frustrating. As a tasmanian he is more a richo than a robbo. should be played as a wing/high forward flank to utilize his strong marking in the air. I'd give him a 2 year deal.

what about cloke vs (spencer, morton, bennell and davey)

The purpose of an AFL Club is to win premerships. Having debt is just apart of running a business. Unless your Apple and have cash to burn. Going into debt to buy a star player is a big risk. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money. Getting Cloke would be huge for the club.

Well Said. We are crazy not to go after him. paying cloke 5mil over 5 years is nothing for us...We could easily shed 3-4 players on 250k per season to cover the cloke deal.

another classic trade...player nominates a club he has no chance of getting to. Leaves other clubs to pay well over the top for him.

I bet a million dollars Bail will not get dropped...he was out for four weeks or so with concussion and got straight back in.
